Yeah think about it, armies of robots controlled by distance by soldiers in safety like if it was their own 2nd body, almost no deaths in wars anymore, at least until there are no robots left...
@@irov5884 and what about when leaders of nations decide to use these robots on civilian sites and to control the masses? Having robots fight wars is a big mistake it detaches ones emotions and makes you dull to the evil that surrounds war.
This man had a water leak in his house and I came out to inspect it. Immediately saw his arm and wondered I’ve never seen an arm like that. I asked him about it respectfully and he is the nicest most down to earth guy. The fact he can think in his brain to move his nonexistent fingers is crazy to me and to see it in real life is actually insane! He showed me everything about it and how he works with the army with that arm and technology.
I think it's actually a Logitech game controller, because its build is a lot more similar to the ps3 controller but the buttons on the right side have the yellow, blue, green and red y, x, b and a buttons.
OMG how could you say this????? This is military funded it says it in the video!!! You're a terrible horrible no good very bad person and you should feel bad for implying something bad about this sweet sweet man. Keep talking and not only might you get pulled over with something blue in the trunk of your car, but you might get a knock at your door and when you open it you'll be greeted by THE ONE WHO KNOCKS!
@@Blankace. Yup and with Elon Musk's brain implant its gonna be much more efficient. Soon you'll have fully functioning robots arms that can feel and move naturally.
What's even cooler is that this video was half a decade ago. With all the advances in both computing and Body-machine interfaces, imagine what an arm like that could be like now?
I can imagine some futuristic technology that enables you to wear a device where you can essentially use psychic abilities, or control anything in a room that corresponds with said device. Wow!!
Prudish Mouse well that could take millions or almost billions of dollars plus if it wasn’t for us machines and robots wouldn’t exist since we gave them all of the info that they need but robots still don’t know as much as we do so that’s why we are trying to improve robots so no robots aren’t really smarter then humans. But if they gain enough or more knowledge then us they would be.
Normally prosthetic limbs are controlled by muscle movement in the are above the missing limb, and are also attached by suction, which irritates the skin if used for a long time, so this is Truly revolutionary!
@@gordonramsey2187 the neurons are motor. He can send commands to the arms but without some kind of sensors that simulate real sensitive neurons he won't feel anything
I give it about 10-15 more years before we see prosthetics that are almost as fast as a regular arm. I could be wrong though, I know jack about robotics. What we do have now though is absolutely astonishing though.
When you consider that a natural arm can move by thoughts in the brain, it makes sense. All of our arm and hand muscles are innervated by the brachial plexus in the shoulder. If you reconnect those severed nerves with the prosthetic arm & hand, it will operate just like a natural arm & hand.
So I realize this is an old video but I just like to say thanks to Johnny. Its completely understandable when someone gets into a situation like this, deciding to use and getting used to a prosthetic limb can be almost as big an ordeal as the initial incident that caused the need for it. I could try and imagine how scary it must be then to take all that and put it all in the public eye for the benefit of others. Not to mention the amazing attitude hes showing. Your an amazing man Mr. Matheny.
So many hours of blood, sweat, and tears to move this technology forward. We should all appreciate the level of dedication and work he and scientists are putting into this kind of stuff :)
There is so many people with similar problems... When I was a kid I had a dream: I studied hard to create (or at least try to create) prostetics that could help such people. But through time I've got just one little problem: I was transited into another country, where my instistute was downgraded in EVERY way. But I'm glad that at least somewhere it was created. It will take much time, but I pray that some day it will be avaliable at least to 1/3 of a people that suffer out there. I might be 5 years too late, but it doesn't matter - I know what it exists, thats enough for me. Even if I was not a part of it.
This is the type of thing that inspired me to study engineering. Imagine being on the team that is working on this technology. Must be so extremely rewarding.
This dude can wirelessly move his arm… imagine he loses his arm and while trying to locate it, it starts moving on its own by him thinking about it and someone comes across this arm crawling on the floor trying to get back to its owner 💀💀
Theres cures for everything but if they cure everyone doctors would be fucked pharmaceutical companies wouldn't make billions a year etc.... Same reason oil is still around really to cause chaos and control. Magic Johnson is living proof of the cure for aids.
Remember how cars were something made for aristocrats back in the 19th century? Remember how computers used to be the size of a room? Remember how mobile phones weren't "smart"? Remember back when getting tuberculosis was a death sentence? This is hard, it's never easy, it never was, so many failed experiments, so many dead ends, in the case of prosthetics many people abandon them because they are not designed to be user friendly, I am sure this video is not such the case as it seems this people is really committed, however I don't want to imagine how many people have grown disappointed and cynical, too often we engineers (all of us, no matter the branch) forget we don't build things to show off but to help people, if we don't listen to the hopes and expectations people have then we are just playing at being mad scientists, or trying to get some easy cash at the expense of others, as ever we are not just fighting against the environment but we have to wrestle with ourselves. Then, it's never easy, too often I feel we are just a bunch of hominids who have dreamed too much in utopias and paradises, but perhaps that's the only true greatness we may find on this sea of dust, the fact we try, and sometimes, we got it done. Sorry, don't want to offend anyone, just what I wish all the success of the world for the developers and the patient.
My uncle lost two of his fingers and he always tells me "it's like I can still feel them there" and he'd always scratch them just imagine what it feels like losing a whole arm
Often you'll feel it anyway even if you don't actually! This is often observed in very immersive VR programs. If you're controlling a body part, you can see it moving, and you can see something touching it, your brain will fill in the feeling of touch that it thinks it would have, and you'll actually experience the touch
