Fun fact: in the original script, the dialogue for Nicolas Cage's character was loaded with f-bombs and other profanity. He decided since he was playing a geeky scientist, it would be more appropriate if his character didn't swear. So he replaced all of the curse words with improvised stuff like "gosh", "a-hole" and "Zeus' butthole". The only time he curses is at the end when he fights Captain Frye, as a way of showing how the experience has toughened him up.

This and to a lesser degree Armageddon for me. Michael Bay is about entertainment rather than logic - a true popcorn director. Full-speed sci-fi like Armageddon was something special when it came out. Again, it is a dumb action movie, but it has more heart than other movies (like for example the extremely overrated Mad Max: Fury Road). The Rock is his best well rounded movie. Bad Boys were fine movies, but really nothing we hadn't seen before. Haven't seen 13 Hours yet, so can't comment on that. I guess it is worth a watch? Is it pure eye-candy or does it also have heart?

Yet he is vulnerable as he learns he is is going to be a father and is then thrown into the kind of mission he has little experience in. I was lucky enough to stay on Alcatraz overnight as a Boy Scout back in the early 90s. We stayed on the first floor of Cell Block D, the area where Cage and Connery are kept in the scene at around 34:52. Mine was the 2nd or 3rd cell from the far left corner. I also live about an hour away from San Francisco, and go there to hike whenever I have free time. So whenever they use the city in movies, I always go back and see what details, inaccuracies, etc. I can find. The Rock is one of my favorite 90's action movies, so I've had plenty of opportunities to go through it in detail. About half of that car chase doesn't even take place in San Francisco (those parts are split between Los Angeles and San Pedro), and what does involves some awkward backtracking and going in the opposite directions what what's being described. They were never even once on California Street. I mentioned that in the live chat when this video premiered, and someone made fun of me for analyzing a fictional car chase. So I'll reiterate what I said there: There's a 1968 movie called Bullitt that starred Steve McQueen and featured a famous car chase in San Francisco, and with real driving stunts (and in one case improvised) done by McQueen itself. It was the first car chase of its kind in films, iconic, and set a high standard that most others have only come close to reaching. It may not have been a flashy spectacle like The Rock, but it was far more dangerous, and its continuity holds up when mapped out. The only thing that makes sense in The Rock's car chase is that Connery to drive from cable car explosion at Jones & Pacific Avenues on Russian Hill to the Palace of Fine Arts in only a few minutes. Other notes: Stenson Drive doesn't exist in San Francisco. Jade's house is on West 37th Street in San Pedro. The FBI mobile command center is shown to be situated at a warehouse on Pier 39. In reality, Pier 39 is a heavily developed shopping center and tourist trap in Fisherman's Wharf. Judging by the camera perspective and the layout of San Francisco's piers, those establishing shots were taken on Pier 23, looking southeast (as in, opposite direction from Alcatraz) towards the Bay Bridge. You can see Piers 19, 17, 15, and 9, with the distinctive Pier 7 walkway jutting out a little further than the others in the distance. Given that Pier 19 was converted from a warehouse to a parking garage, it's most likely the place where the command center scenes were really filmed. Also, Pier 17 was recently made the location of the Swiss consulate, and the Exploratorium was relocated to the renovated Pier 15 in 2013. Also, the stadium shown in the missile launch was actually Candlestick Park, which was far south. The Oakland Coliseum is to the east and relatively close to Alcatraz.

Mason played by Sir Thomas Sean Connery (born August 25, 1930 - died October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983.[1][2][3] Connery originated the role in Dr. No (1962) and continued starring as Bond in the Eon Productions From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967) and Diamonds Are Forever (1971). Connery made his final appearance in the franchise in Never Say Never Again (1983), a non-Eon-produced Bond film. He was in 72 movies.

It has been proposed that "James Bond" is a code name given to the British agent along with the number of 007. Hence, John Mason had trained as Bond and after he was captured the name and number tramsferred to the new guy. This has been supported by little nods to "the other fellow" and such in the Bond films.

To be fair, The Rock would've absolutely been in The Rock had The Rock been at the stage in his career where we could all smell what The Rock was cooking in his Hollywood career at that point. In fact, he later did a Bruckheimer movie with Pain and Gain after he stepped back from wrestling. But if The Rock was in The Rock we may never gotten action movie Nick Cage and that would've been a tragedy for everyone. Because an over the top, big budget action movie is where A Nicholas Cage outburst makes the most logical sense. And he probably needed a good energetic pick me up after Leaving Las Vegas. Finally Sean got fed up. He looked at the director and said (in angry Scottish) "You don't understand! I'm Sean Fucking Connery! You'll hire an entire Scottish crew SO I'LL BLEND IN!"
