Nearly a 3 hour interview, and I would have preferred it to be 3 hours longer. I really miss Tye being a part of AAF, but I also miss AAF putting more music out as well. Hope he knows that AAF did create deep meaningful music. Truly one of the most iconic bass guitarists ever.

In previous life I interviewed a lot of musicians, especially drummers. Got to do multiple features with Mike Cosgrove, met everybody in the band at, I believe, The Edge in Palo Alto, CA. (Memory is foggy.) Tye (and everybody) weren't just cool af, their soundcheck had a ridiculous version of Primus' "DMV." Tye is a beast, not suprising at all that he is a *killer* tech.

Alient Ant Farm is Alternative Rock, neither Nu Metal nor Pop Punk, but a great band nonetheless.

311 became really poppy I don’t know what you mean lol they keep stepping that way too. I’m not knocking them chad has more talent in his clipped pinky nail than I do in my whole body.

I still listen to Alien Ant Farm every week! And I mean all of their music including their most recent album too. I always admired Tye as a bass player and musician, and listening to him talk, as he mentioned, you have to respect him for his talent and knowledge as well! He speaks truthfully and honestly, not trying to sell something or add to his ego or anything, just a working man in the industry telling you how it is. Great insight into the business and what it's like to work in it! Good stuff!

Tye is one of the most humblest, intelligent, nicest musicians to come across! ❤️ “Wish” from AAF among many other songs. local in SoCal we should do tacos sometime.

Tye is not only an awesome human, but a GREAT "left hand flow" type player i distantly remember. Back in the fuzzy days i was an A2 engineer for them on a tour with 311. My pet peeve was always players staring at their left hand while attempting backup vocals. I love guys like Tye that know where it's at 100% of the time! In turn allows him to play with confidence, and a big presence. Great fuzzy memories! Peace + love beaches!

Always thought Incubus ripped somebody off - dude seems pretty chill. See he’s playing with Slightly Stoopid a bit these days.

This is a great conversation. Tye seems like a nice human being - I'm kinda sad he's not in AAF anymore, or a bigger band for that matter, definitely deserves it as he's absolutely one of the best bass players in the genre.

I thought Dryden's part was stolen from Peter Gabriel

first AAF album slapped, their problem was not capitolizing on their success with constantly putting out an album every 2 years and being relevant. AAF worked because of the styles and singers uniqueness, all it needed was more product pushed out there to the masses. They had a hollywood connection early with smooth criminal, couldve easily parlayed it to more soundtrack work

Glad you liked the episode! 3 hrs is fun but you can only have your guest for so long before they gotta run! He had to get back to his Girl because she was messaging him 😆

I think Smooth Criminal was both a blessing and a curse for AAF. It gave the band massive mainstream success, yet it kinda set an expectation among the masses for what the band should be and sound like in the nu-metal era. Regardless I think AAF is such a cool band and hope to get new material in the future.

I mean, their sound wasn't thrown off by Smooth Criminal. It fits their whole sound. I think they had a lot of momentum going following it, and that's when their big tour bus crash happened that threw a whole wrench in the follow up of it and by the time they were ready to play again, that time of not being able to support their follow up is what really hurt them a lot.
