I was already loving the video but the "where I hide my stash" comment laid me out laughing lol.. Instead of new wood this inspires me to use some of those scraps and cut offs from 2x4's now instead of burning them. Great concept for salvaging wood.
You are very inspirational, never would have thought of cutting the 2X4 in such thin pieces to get what I needed. Thanks will give me more ideas in other things. Great job
Loved how the little boxes turned out! Great tips on how to get a 45 deg angle on the little french cleat pieces and using your finger to guide the glue nozzle on thin pieces! I'm so glad Rockler is sponsoring this. They're a great company. I worked there for a decade.
This type of stuff is the reason why I recommend your channel to anyone who is getting into woodworking or making in general. Besides the cereal in the wood drawer s**t I don't know what that's all about lmao
This was great, I never would have thought of milling dimensional lumber down like that. This'll definitely be useful for making stuff for around the house with something other than plywood.
Terrific challenge, and your examples are classic Glimpse Inside projects. You're not the first maker I've seen use the wood glue/CA glue method, but you're the one who convinced me to start using it. You know, Chris, you might consider modifying your sander mount to allow for vertical positioning, and offer an optional table for it to turn it into a poor man's tabletop disk sander.
Love contestants Go Bri!this is going to be so cool bri sent me over so glad you did your channel is so awesome now I’m going to go binge more of your videos tyvm have learned so much from you in just three videos God bless and looking forward to many of your videos
Oh dang a Rockler store! We had one in Lee County and they closed it. This was YEARS ago too. I liked walking through there and smelling… the wood… Store? Idk. I can remember it still. Lol *shrug* Good luck everyone participating in the contest!!!
Glad to see your feeling better. I would love to take on the challenge, i'm sidelined right now from woodworking. I'm in the middle of a project now. My right knee is shot, need a replacement 😩. Good luck to all who enter
Chris, man awesome! Great ideas. I'm gonna try and get into this, will try and do it, even if I don't turn them in. It'll be a blast. However just in case I do get them finished and turn them in. Then if the finish date and time.. Actually knowing you, you probably have all the info in the description of this video.. Anyhow, Looks like a lot of fun. Now I'm off to try and figure out what I'm gonna try and build. That always seems to be the hardest part for me. Later
I love the challenge. its a unique spin on the 2 x 4 challenge. However I hate that its limited to Instagram. I don't have it, never had, never will, so can't participate but will follow along to see what creative ideas come from this. Provided of course they are posted to YT.
aglimpseinsideprojects@gmail.com I would hate to discourage anyone from doing this challenge. If you decide to participate send them to my email. Those can be official entries
Awesome video as always! I am sure there will be many very impressive builds in this challenge, which will make it a challenge for the judges to pick one winner in each category. It will also be an awesome way for makers to get their name out there.
Great challenge and I’m probably going to enter! What’s the ruling on using one 2x4 to finish another project? I would make a a piece out of the board, then attach it to an old wooden crate I have
God bless I need a laser 😍! Awesome job man, good luck in the competition. The little stash box cabinet is 🔥 looks like a product you could market. Do them in varying sizes, 4 drawers, 6 drawers and so on.
Hi Chris. I'm already inspired by the challenge. Wheels are turning. This is gonna be fun. I'm pretty into repurposing so I might actually try to recycle used 8ft 2x4s for my builds. Also, the '1 Day' challenge. Is it a silly question to ask what constitutes one day? Start and finish on the the same day? 24 hrs (collectively)? 8 hrs work day? Just a little clarity for fairness please. Finally, can we assume that only one entry per category is allowed? That's kinda where I'm going anyway, but... I'm anxious to follow your judges a bit for some ideas plus I'm always up for a good follow. Good luck to all the participants and as always, I appreciate all you do.
Any plans of opening up shipping to Canada? I love the sander mount, but last time I checked out your website, it wasn't available for purchase from Canada.
I’ll definitely look into it. I shipped to Canada mini time we just do the whole thing through PayPal if that interests you usually it’s about 15 to 25 bucks shipping
This SUCKS! LoL! I would love to join this challenge. However, I'm having Nuclear Stress test Tuesday and Carpal tunnel surgery Wednesday. No way I could do all of this Monday (I just saw the video today on Aug 7). I love this challenge though and will definitely be following it. Good luck to all and a GREAT panel of judges. Chris you are Awesome. God bless.
@@AGlimpseInside There is a good chance I'll be better, or at least more healed, by then. When I had my right carpal tunnel repaired last year, which I highly recommend if anyone is scared to do it, it took about 1 week to get full motion back in my hand, about 4-6 weeks to get decent strength back and about 5 months to be completely back to normal. Well worth it. But after saying all that, I think I was back in the shop around 5 weeks but was very careful in what I did. Thank you for the encouragement and I truly love your channel. Thank you and God bless.
So, this isn’t a question regarding the challenge. You used your laser to cut the drawers pieces, and the holder. Does the burned edges of the wood affect gluing? Does it make the joint weaker? Shout it be lightly sanded at least? Thx.
If it does keep the joints a bit weaker I don’t notice it plus again the piece is so small that I’m not all that concerned with it but I think I would’ve maybe flooded the surface let it dry and then glued it again had it been a bigger piece. But yeah I would say it’s probably not as strong as it or nearly would be if it didn’t have that burning affect
I’m not sure if Rockler has international stores. So I’m gonna say this is US based only. But the rules are pretty simple just use the time constraints and use one 2 x 4 each anything else like hinges little feet or drawer poles no big deal you can make those or use pre-fabricated ones
Does each thing we make (for each time class) need to more-or-less use a full 2x4? I make small puzzles and would use only a small length of 2x4 for each project. Unclear if this is within the rules.
Cutting time was only about 20 or 30 minutes. But designing it in making sure everything lined up. Doing a few test cuts on plywood. Is what took the lion share of the time. I would say from start to finish that entire project took me about six hours
Well, The good news first. Your still in the running for U-Tube dad of the decade. Now for the not so good news. We (the undersigned) are considering revoking your wood working man card. Your use of the lazer isn't what we would consider a "wood working" tool in a contest such as this. And???? Your table saw doesn't allow you to cut a 8' 2x4???? Come on MAN! Man card must be revoked for 3 weeks! I know, I know, BUMMER DUDE! :) Nice work on the boxes though. Glad to see you use some material besides plywood in a project!
Wasn’t really gonna entertain this but I figured why not. Contest was my idea. Luckily such a great company and such great makers got involved with me. Therefore I make the rules. I need to cut a 25 inch piece and I have too much stuff to the left of the table saw to do so. Only by an inch. I could cut a 36 inch piece no problem. But I was trying to utilize material. I hope this comes across as a Showville back-and-forth. But the deal is from hand tools to industrial machinery everything will be considered. But like I said a hand carved canoe has a great chance of winning Morceau over something like I did with the laser
The thin cut jig is slick. I do the same using a feather board that is adjustable. Set it the distance you want from the blade. Slide it back. I did that for some crates I made using 2x4. The strips were nailed to the ends. I cut them custom to a shelf for my wife. Did every shelf with to hold things.
OK. Next time I’ll take your advice. How many other interactions have we had. It must be a ton because I’m really gonna listen to what you have to say. Because I value your opinion
@@AGlimpseInside sheesh... coming back a bit hot. I was not flaming you, just offering an opinion so potentially more viewers don't lose interest and not watch the full video.
