The postman called today with a package from Canada! A new razor; razor blades and soap, al. from the same company, bought via a Kickstarter campaign last year. It turns out to be a fantastic razor and the best $20 I've ever spent. It is, as you've seen in the title, the Rockwell 2c in white chromium, paired with a Rockwell Swedish steel razor blade and some Rockwell barbershop scented shaving soap.

Hi Mark I have just bought a 6c I have had 2 shaves with the no4 plate not wishing to be to clever to start with and I must say I have had 2 good shaves.I bought it as I felt my DE89L wasn’t aggressive enough. When going against the grain on my third pass the EJ used to pull on the moustache area. Not so with the 6c as it shaves closer on the first 2 passes. I will try the 5 plate next time just to see. My only reservation is the 2/4 plate is not cast as well as the other 2 plates on the ends but doesn’t appear to affect the shave. Many Thanks for the review.
@FriendshipShaving

Hi Leslie, I hope your enjoying your weekend. The 6c does have a solid reputation and, of course, you can choose your desired plate. It's a great idea. It might be interesting to try your 6c handle on your DE89. If the handle is a little heavier you might find you get a better shave with the 89 head. Mind you I cannot go against the grain (upwards) on my moustache area. All the best, my friend.

+The Suffolk Shaver It is a smooth shave. I tried it tonight, on setting three, for three passes and then swapped the guard, to setting one, for a touch up. It also worked well that way. I might try that idea on my Slim/Fatboy adjustable razors next time I use them.
@sarajevo_
@sarajevo_ 7 лет назад
Nice video Mark, thanks for sharing as always. That razor looks very smooth, you seemed to go pretty rough sometimes and I don't recall seeing one nick. Also a very good value, it's not made of the greatest materials but if you take care of it it should last you a while. However, I wonder how long the thread will last for someone who changes the bottom plate during each shave. I've pretty much given up on BBS, lol. I've never gotten the area below my jaw and around the neck completely smooth. Have you tried using a Gillette Super/Slim Adjustable on a low setting? I have a Super Adjustable and I find it to be very smooth, you might be able to go against the grain with one. Probably could with a Tech too. Cheers
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 7 лет назад
+Nayem Khan It was very smooth and I did go a little more rough than usual. Most razors these days seem to be made from zinc alloy or aluminium, which is really over priced. I think the days of nickel or chrome plated brass are long gone. Shame. I hear you about BBS. It seems that whenever I chase it, that's when I get nicks and soreness. The hair on my neck and below the corners of my mouth grow in all sorts of directions. Before I got into de razors, I was always happy with a three pass shave in the same direction. I haven't tried the adjustable a on a low setting but I think I might go with two passes on medium and dial it down for the last pass. That might work well. Cheers, pal

I have the 6C. My favourite razor at the moment. If i have to choose only one Plate, it would be 2/4. I often change between 5, 4, 3, and 2. Even 6 is doing fine. 1? Kind of useless... 3 is good. But if i wanted to have 2C it should be the 2/4 blade 😁
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 6 лет назад
I totally agree Jens! I have the 1/3 plate on my 2c (obviously) and I would love the 2/4 plate. Setting 1 is fairly useless and setting 3 is good but I think 4 might be better. A nice razor though.

Hey Geo, that is a hard question but I would recommend the 2C or the 6C. That way you would have all the plates but the ones for you would be 1&3 and also 2&4. It is a superb razor. I think you will go very well with it.

I purchased the gun metal version about a year ago after watching this review. For $30 on Amazon I didn't get all those extras, just the razor and 5 blades. I'm new to safety razors and yet I found the 3 setting a bit light, not much better than a typical cheap disposable. Considering getting the 5 and 6 setting inserts for an even closer shave.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
Good choice mate. I would think that if you joined a Facebook buy, sell and trade shaving group or found one on a forum, that you would be able to pick up that plate. Perhaps someone bought a 6c, with all the plates and has some that are unused. Good luck 😃👍

@@FriendshipShaving this is an ignorant question, but how does that work exactly? How do you exchange money and deal with postage? Is there anywhere to go to research this or a video? I assume Facebook is like a mediator and has a system laid out for that?
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 2 года назад
I assume you mean purchasing something from a Facebook group? The cost of postage is normally quoted by the seller and payment is usually by PayPal. There is a lot of trust in purchasing from a group but, the people in the groups are usually well known and look out for each other. Lots of guys enjoy being able to trade soaps, as an example. So there is little point in going dishonest. Word would get around very quickly.

Did you ever do a review of the 3? If not, can you summarise your impressions? I think the 6c has more options than I need as a daily shaver. My beard is white, so it's pretty tough. Maybe the blade is the solution. Just bought some Voshkod, which I know you rate highly.

I didn't review #3, Chris. It is something I should do. I actually use #3 more than I use #1; I find it quite suits me, although I must admit I haven't used my Rockwell for a little while. I'll put that right in a week or two with another review. I agree with you, I would never use most of the plates on a the 6s. I think the 2c is pretty great. Thanks for bringing that up 👍😃

What are your thoughts on setting 3? I am a daily shaver with light beard, never tried a safety razor, and trying to decide on a first time purchase amongst the Rockwell 2c, 6c and 6s.and wondering if thr 1-3 plate will be sufficient. Thanks, enjoy your videos!
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 6 лет назад
I like setting three. I think the combination is quite good although I find setting one too mild but if you have light growth I think it might suit you on the second pass. You might also consider an adjustable razor, the Parker Variant has a good name, then you can 'dial' it in as it suits you without changing the head. Whichever way you go I think you'll enjoy the experience. I have loved it. All the best in your adventure 👍😃

@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 6 лет назад
Hello André. Thank you for getting in touch with such a difficult question 🙂 I've thought about this quite a lot, the Rockwell 6C is a nice razor, I have the 2C and it is quite a heavy razor although it isn't stainless steel. I use my 2C on setting 3 - so I don't use the variable plate. Mostly because it's a bit of hassle to change the plate over. With the Model T it would be much easier to adjust the setting and I think the Model T looks nicer. I hope that helps. Take care. ☀️👍
@AndreGFPinto
@AndreGFPinto 6 лет назад
Friendship Shaving thank you! It helps indeed! Yeah the model T looks really nice! Also without the hassle of changing plates.... I'm dying for a TTO adjustable, so I think it could be it, instead of the Gillettes fatboy, aristocrat etc. Keep up with the good videos. Cheers!

I just started wet shaving with the Feather Popular razor but I get painful razor burns that last for days. Would you recommend the 2c for someone not used to wet shaving?
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 5 лет назад
Hi Max. My apologies for the delayed reply mate. I find that the Feather Popular is such a mild razor that the is a tendency to go over the same spot too many times, in an effort to get all the hair off or to press too hard, because of it's mildness. Mind you, my first shaves were the same! Please stick with it, it is a great hobby, if that's the right word). The 2c is a nice razor, it will work well and you've got the option of switching the plate. For the time being, make sure you have a light touch and you could try just going with the direction of your growth until you get a bit more used to it. I did that for ages and always had pretty reasonable shaves. I hope this helps. All the best.

I got the Rockwell 6S a few weeks ago and I really like it. I'm current trying out the 6 different sized plates and am enjoying the shaves. The number 1 plate is incredibly mild I find. Great razor and also great value, when you consider its essentially like have six different razors in one. I can imagine it been the last razor I need to buy. One thing I do need to get out of the habit of, is chasing the BBS. I read this interesting article today Mark, about doing a two shave pass and getting great results. There's a bit more to it than that and I will most definitely be trying it out on my next shave and probably for a month after, and see how I get on. Friendship Shaving Your welcome. Your video about the reaction you had to TOBS has really made me think about purchasing artisan soaps rather than the big named mass produced soaps,creams. I think when I have finished my TOBS I’ll move to Wickham as these are artisans and looking at the ingredients, they appear to not have all of the stuff you mentioned in TOBS skin reaction video and also they are still relatively affordable for artisan soaps and by a lot of the posts I’ve read online, they make some superb soaps. Really like the sound of the Wickham’s Parma Violet fragrance 🙂 Have a good week also, and I look forward to your next video 🙂
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 6 лет назад
Oh yeah. Parma Violet sounds great. Let me tell you, Club Cola is fab! I find that creams give me issues sometimes, because of the ingredients mentioned in the TOBS video that chemically alter the soap making process, in order to make a cream. I do sometimes react to fragrance oils. I think everyone probably comes across a product, now and again that doesn't suit them. Cheers 🙂

Friendship Shaving I ordered some of the Wickham parma violet yesterday. Really looking forward to trying it out. If I like the Wickham I’ll probably order the club cola and the Classic 24. I think I’ll try and sell or trade my TOBS on one of the shaving forums. As apart from the chemical content, I find it a bit hit and miss with its lather density (probably my technique to a certain extent). Bye for now.
