The Rohonc Codex is a mysterious medieval book written in an unknown language containing bizarre depictions of famous Christian iconography. In strangeness, it is perhaps only second to the famous and still undeciphered Voynich Manuscript. No one knows where the Rohonc Codex came from or what it truly contains. Can we finally solve this enigmatic text?

@barkasz6066
@barkasz6066 2 года назад
Having 800 meaningful symbols is too much in a time and place when writing systems such as Mandarin are not known or understood and where writing in code like that is not known from any other sources. You must treat every artifact within the context of when and where it was found. The cultural trends and practices of the time , and also of the practices of both preceeding and following centuries do not show any interest or usage of logograms. Codes of the time usually attempt to copy Da Vinci who also mirrored a lot of stuff. Hungarian code at the time usually meant using Hungarian runes, mirroring the script and skipping vowels. The 1600’s 1700’s and 1800’s was also a time when national alphabets and the language itself was going through a lot of standardization. People were trying to come up with ortography that mirror real speech and is easy to learn. Coming up with a logographic writing system with 800 individual symbols literally flies in the face of everything else going on at the time.

When you try to convert others to your faith, the best way to do it is via changing your depiction art to that of the people you’re trying to convert. Same as the text, you would try to revert it to what they are able to read. Most holy men that traveled the world did this. You can see an example of this in China where they have a copy of the Bible that has art work using Chinese style art. Dramatically looks strange at first glance but it makes sense when you understand famous scenes from the Bible. But idk. There is many things we don’t know about when it comes to history.

I and my mom believe this is a book of curses. The reversal of Christian imagery, the difficulty to understand the characters, the Hungarians attitude toward further research on it? It all seems to be pointing at: instead of it being a prayer book, it’s a book of curses/occult spells etc. Often in the world of occult, reversal of a thing is mockery of it. It could tie into “as above so below” with the mirroring too.

wow, fascinating! @barkasz6066
@barkasz6066 2 года назад
Sorry but that is bullshit. Pure fiction. If anything Franz Joseph and the Habsburg court supported this Scythian-Hun nonsense as political niceties to the Hungarian elite. But science has won out. The codexes you refer to (Gesta Hungarorum and Chronicum Pictum) are works of historical fiction. The Gesta Hungarorum makes a connection between Alexander the Great and the ruling Árpád dynasty of the 1200’s… It contains information about the Conquest of 895 that is demonstrably false. We actually have Greek, Latin and Arabic manuscripts from the 800’s and 900’s independently mentioning the same names, places and events that completely contradict the Gesta Hungarorum. No wonder, the Gesta Hungarorum was written 300 years after the fact without the use of any primary sources. Same goes for the Chronicum Pictum, which was written another 100 years after the Gesta Hungarorum. They were literally ordered to spread the fame and prestige of the ruling family. They made shit up that sounded cool. Case and point the one thing that is perhaps not disputed: Hunyadi “Corvin” Mátyás. You know why they have the name “Corvin”? Propaganda. The story with the crow was made up and it refers to a made up Roman ancestor to turn an otherwise insignificant family into an ancient lineage. People back then barely knew anything about the past, they did not know about the scientific method and history was all about folk tales, hearsay and emotions. They legit thought that Siberia was inhabited by dog headed people. We have so much better tools, better disciplines, better access to sources, better techniques than some medieval monk. Don’t fall for fantasies, the real world is so much more exciting.

The codex must have been owned by the family who first catalogued it. This must have been a memento of a childhood attempt to create a book. (Although the magnitude of the writing meant that the child has plenty of time to do so - because there were no distractions in the 16th Century besides the threat of war.) The creation of this codex may not have been mysterious or not from some "lost" tribe, language or civilization but merely child's play. The intrinsic evidence is compelling: 1. Illustrations were crudely drawn or were considered "childish", and mostly mirrored. There is a high probability that these were drawn by a child by mirror-tracing another printed images (probably woodcuts) from actual codices of that time, thus the mirrored effect. 2. A written language of 800 individual letter scripts is improbable. A child who might have written this with little or without the prior knowledge and skill of using the alphabet is more likely to create scripts of that number by merely "copying" images or emulating the letter script or combination of letter scripts he sees from some printed codices of the time. Perhaps mimicking how the adults write known scripts creating their own make-believe scripts. The child or children who made this may not be able to read their creation thereafter but would be amused of their creation nonetheless. 3. Frightful images or imagery were mostly absent. This suggests that a child's aversion to frightful images/imagery may have been the reason for the absence of such in the codex. 4. The codex may likely be indecipherable because even the creators have not. The best way to know what it meant is to look at books or codices printed at that time that resembled the codex's illustrations. This is probably a child's attempt to copy a Bible or a Cathechism, or a Christian Book containing commentaries or treatises. 5. The paper and binding may have been expensive but if this is a memento of a child from the aristocracy, they have plenty of resources at their disposal. 6. Codex Seraphinianus is a good example of codices of this kind.

Vert interesting. It's indeed very common that, when people have tried to create their own writing in inspiration of another existing one which they can't actually read, they end up creating scripts that use a lot of different symbols. Two examples (although use very few letters in comparison) are the Carolinian islander script (which often used ramdomly diferent letters for the exact same word, as well some same letters for different sounds; thus decoding it --if needed-- would be highly dependent on the context an previous knowlegde of the Woleai language) and the Cherokee syllables; probably also was the case of the Tangut script, inspired by Chinese, with arround 6000 letters many of which appear only on the symbol dictionaries.

I think it's at least partially occult because the 1st illustration shown on the video at 2:18 appears to be the 3 worlds (terrestrial, celestial, intelligible). That would most likely make the city shown in the terrestrial world Jerusalem. Also, oddly enough, some of the "runes" bare a striking resemblance to enochian script though I'm not saying it is enochian. I also see what appears to be spirit signatures but again if this is a cipher it could be anything.

From Tisa to the Black sea from Danube to the North springs of Nistru going est to Crimea. It was being kept in an old orthodox monastery (build on top of an old Neolithic holy place), burned after one battle during the long conquering wars of Transilvania in the 14 century . I'm Hungarian I'm highly intrested not just in hungarian mythology and origins but that of the world and cultures, religions, esoterism, occultism, ancient civilizations and all sub categories of that. While not being an academic myself i spend way too much time learning and listening to possible theories. There are theories about connecting ancient Magyars to Sumer, Scythians etc. (Emese, and like the Great Stag which is found in sculptures of thiers) (the finnugor theory with every year becomes more clear that is was nothing more than a political agenda to connect the people to Europe and put an end or at least halt research of the origins). I say this because in the book the drawings and symbols depict egyption man looking at the chin and headress some of which look like Pharaohs. And the angels look more like the more "real" versions. I assume you are familiar with or one could just simply see the connections between the "gods" of Sumer, Egypt, Greece which later seemed to highly influence christianity. Ancient Hungarians said to be shamanistic (táltosism which was our special shamanism often reffered to each as the same but it was not) Hungarians never believed in transcendental beings, They simply honored the elements. With the sun at it's center. Magic (Mágia) in hungarian according to wikipedia simply means the manifestation of Will. ( The now modernized practice of the "Law of Attraction"). However there were coins found that point out that Ancient hungarians before with the symbolism on coins but reversed might have practiced a different branch of buddhism something in now northern India. Sun, Moon, Stars, the symbols of 3 major religions. Hungarian Used the Sun and the Moon together. They were also accepting of all religions, as pagans as christians. Anyone could practice whatever they wished. Now the mystical part. I think it was your video about Agartha which i watched a month ago that depicted 7 teachers the time when i found your channel, and immidietly after i wondered if you made anything with Hungary which you did :). We had 7 tribe leaders who made a blood pact and establishised the Kingdom of Hungary. I can look at the current map around Isreal and point out about 40 City names that without thinking i would say they are Hungarian and Ancient Hungarian. If you look up on wikipedia the "Names of Jerusalem" one of which is in biblical Greek is Hierosolyma, Solyóm means Falcon or Hawk, Also the "The Turul is a mythological bird of prey, mostly depicted as a hawk or falcon, in Hungarian tradition and a national symbol of Hungarians." Going back to egypt i ask you What is Ra? besides being the sun he is or rather his aspects are depicted as such of a falcon, or hawk. The Hungarian name for Hungarian is Magyar, which has different interpretations one of which can be Magians. That sound to me almost like magicians. However if you look at the hungarian side of the Name: Magyar - Mag-ar- Mag őr/ur/úr - Where "Mag" means "seed", Őr - Keeper/Guard, Ur/Úr - Lord. There are theories mostly by people risking thier carriers mentioning Agartha as well connecting it to hungarians most likely because of the Tayos Cave or Táltos Barlang in Ecuador the most well documented cases the original discover mostly swept under the rug Juan Móricz / János Móricz who spoke to the keepers of the cave in hungarian, there are some pretty good stuff out there especially linguistic and tradition ones that point out (I think) The mayan traditional dress is almost exactly like the one of the Hungarians. There indigionous tribes in kechua sharing hungarian words. There's even something about a researcher who found aboriginals in australia whom he could speak hungarian with. Lastly: Personally I just find it fun to think and research or just hear out people on these subjects, Of course i'm probably biased since this is what language i speak not because of the nationality. I speak and think in english often more than in hungarian however i would never give my tongue up it also seems to me "tinfoil hats on" that others wanted to erase us during our whole history to this day, hell if i meet someone chances are they don't even know anymore what Hungary is or what we contributed to the world. When i was younger i would have told my future self you are nuts. Then i realised the only thing that is left for Hungarians to find thier old connection and maybe not just thiers but a big part of true world history - which i personally belive to be couldn't be further away from the full truth now as it is - to simply think about the language. The language is the only thing as hungarian that really makes you wonder compared to all the other ones i know of and heard and spoken to other people from different parts of the world Hungarian feels truly unique in a way. It's almost as it was made to be some sort of solution to a code itself perfectly constructed so every single word has a meaning there is a phrase or expression or word for every act, most of which can mean multiple things than one all perfectly connecting and thus revealing much more behind them being simply words. It is like it was crafted driven by logic, mathematics, music, kids, phyisics, philosophy and love to be a key to the theory of everything. Anyway i rest my case sorry that it's so jumbled and long. This was an alt account for anyone replying to this. I will probably never read it - the idea is out there do with it what you think you must. And Mr. Mythos hope to see more equally interesting videos very soon great research great content who knows maybe you even find one of the subjects above to be worthy of making an episode about in the future :)

Hi there, I can relate to your thirst for knowledge as well, I was fortunate that my uncle retained quite a lot of information from what my grandfather had taught him, as my grandfather knew runic writing i strongly suspect that he was a taltos, and our family had been prominent on the plains in the past, after doing my research I found everything he was taught to be true. It all started when I showed him an ancient map of Nimrud, he was able to translate all the names from old Hungarian. You are bang on about the Magi, and I do have to say it pains me to hear you say that our connection to Sumir and Scythia are beliefs. Szekely/Szitia/Skita/Skitia still bare the name, it is not a belief but a fact, most educated historians and archeologists/linguists know this as fact. I have heard Sumiri clay tablets discovered in Hungary, Erdely is part of old Scythia. There are even old cuneiform tales of Ninurta taking his tribes north west to what is described to be Erdely, the giant forest. Erdely used to be called Gyula, which is also a Sumerian nature goddess, Gula. It is common over such great lengths of time for sexes to be transposed. Today Gyula being a male name, Anu being our word for mother. Ata/Apa/Atu from Scythic was once a mother goddess of Black Sea area Scythians. This issue is it wasn't just the soviets that destroyed our culture, information has recently surfaced of literal proof that universities in austria had a coordinated effort to wipe out our past, as our past was our greatest source of strength. No past, no future. Better to believe we were just peasant folk. One point of interest you might have which i have had little ability to find anything on, is the Kunlan Empire in the Kunlun mountain range, east Turkmenistan, now annexed by china. My uncle has come from Kun nobility and I have never had any reason to suspect this was just a tale. It was oral history. I was told we had a great empire there and to the best of my studies it occured between our migration from Mesopotamia and Europe (Mezö - Po -) - mezo is meadow, po being old hungarian for river, tamia might have been some derivative of "melet" or "beside" ( I know they say it is a Greek word, I just couldnt help but notice. ) It is said there was a root culture that influenced taoism around that time, and I did find one reference to Kunlan online from someone in china who was citing interest on why such little was known about this culture. Also to end off, our old word for church is Urat. As in Zigurrat. Zug in Hungarian meaning "Holy sound frequency". Our old word for god, before Isten, which is the name of the Babylonian/Kardunia sungod, was Ur. It also means space, aka the heavens and in sumerian wolf, which is interesting as the Kun/Khun had the wolf as a totem animal. For anyone to say we aren't Sumero Scythic by this time is insane to me, but it seems the west largely will not accept this, despite the scores of information that can be found back home. There is by far more to be sourced in Hungary than there is here. Also in Sumerian "Mi" was their version of Asian chi or qi. So in regard to the name Mitanni, you have Mi - Tanit, or teachers of Mi. Also, we have numerous sumerian and babylonian traditions which we still practice today, that somehow survived destruction from the church.

Hebrew is another language with "meaningful words", possibly even more than Hungarian, but they are different, so hard to compare. Hungarian is more like building word bushes, Hebrew is more like "everywhere", you can grab any part of the word with any length and ponder upon its relation to the whole word. Hungarian is less like that, it's more agglutinative kind, although we definitely have word roots in Hungarian (not commonly known, but see Czuczor-Fogarasi dictionary). In this regard, Hebrew and Hungarian are similar, interestingly both wrote only consonants originally, then marked vowels as well later. I wouldn't call that relation, since they are very different grammatically, but it's fascinating, none the less.

@mirandagoldstine8548
@mirandagoldstine8548 3 года назад
Maybe. It could be an attempt by the author to combine motifs seen in the ancestral faith of the author with Christian stories. This is where I wish we knew more on the deities worshiped by the Magyars. Knowing their names and symbols could be the key to cracking the code. Unfortunately I haven’t had any luck on finding the names of Magyar deities. We know that the Cumans were animists before converting to Christianity so that could be another theory to explore. Perhaps the script is an attempt to create a written language for the Cuman people. Then again who knows. What is clear to me is that the book was most likely not created by that antiquarian if the catalogue of books in possession of the family that owned the codex is to be trusted. And this is where I think we need to do what was done with the Voynich manuscript: carbon dating. It would give us a rough estimate of when the material was harvested and thus, possibly, giving us a date of creation.

It seems like a very crude homemade "Bible Story Book" like a poor peasant parent would make for their children (possibly having only heard the stories themselves from a missionary). It was mentioned that this book contains no violent depictions, that could be because it was meant to be read and shown to children as a bedtime story book of sorts. Also, the fact that the two names shared the same surname could be because they were husband and wife. I only thought of this because the book contains many prayers (that young children are typically taught) which, to me, would belong in something like a Bible story book. Just my thoughts.

@illuminOz It could possibly be a copy of a book from Alexandria but I have my own theory. Based on the theory that it was created in northern Italy (this is based on the depiction of a castle with dovetail crenellations which could only be found in Italy at that time) I believe it has connections to the Milanese Visconti family and that it could be an alchemist’s notebook. The chain of possession could possibly go like this: alchemist-Visconti family and eventually ending up in the possession of the Sforza family. From there there are a few possible ways the book ended up in, hypothetically, the hands of the Habsburgs. The first way is via the marriage of Maximilian to a member of the Sforza family, second way is also via marriage but going through from the Sforza to the Jagiellon family and the third way is via the usurpation of the Sforza family from the title of dukes of Milan. Of course this is just a theory and it could be possible the book went through different hands but supposedly it was owned by Rudolph II who was known for his interest in the occult.
@MrChristianDT
@MrChristianDT 3 года назад
Them being from Alexandria are unlikely for two reasons-- first, actual books weren't a thing back then. Arabs invented the concept later & everything was written on scrolls. Secondly, the clear references to Christianity in this codex. Alexandria burned several decades before Christianity was a thing & Christians didn't start to have a specific art style until close to the time of the fall of Rome.

Considering that the paper is believed to have been from the time of the Ottoman occupation of Hungary in the 16-17th centuries, I personally believe that the codex was produced by Christians attempting to hide their religion from their Muslim overlords in a era of religious persecution. This may explain why the codex is so heavily encoded (using a logogram, instead of an encrypted alphabet like most other codices do) and also why much of the Christian imagery is obscured through symbolism and mirroring, as this would throw off Turkish inspectors. It was also explain why something as ordinary and mundane as Christian prayers would have to be hidden, as this type of content would not be all out of ordinary in Christian societies, but would have been supressed in Ottoman occupied Europe. That being said, I think the occult hypothesis certainly has equal merit. Also, as a historian who has studied Hungarian history, the alternative theories make no sense. Tartar, Proto-Hungarian and the Dacian-Romanian theories can easily be ruled out as the paper is dated to at least the 16th century, not the 9th/10th centuries that these theories are proposing. Also it is pronounced RohonTS not RohonK !

11:59 That looks more like a depiction of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and how they got tossed into a fire and then were saved by god or whatever. Not that religious, I just was raised in a Christian household so that's what that picture reminds me of most.

Maybe it's a book by the cult of Bogomilism ? It's a gnostic sect, and gnostics used the abraxas symbol in representation. They were more present in balkans but many gnostic sects spread after them, like the cathars in southern france for exemple.

Could be “The Secret Book of Dzyan”, which Helena Blavatsky bases her Secret Doctrine on. An amalgamation of eastern, western and occult philosophies. These ancient manuscripts are said to predate history and have been hidden to all but a few of the highest adepts.

The mirroring aspect is fascinating. I wonder, has anyone put the book next to a mirror and then looked at the words and pictures reflections? I wonder if it becomes readable or some noticeable cypher pattern emerges when the pages are viewed that way. Writing some things mirrored or backwards implies hidden meaning the reader is supposed to unscramble by looking at it differently. Perhaps inverting the pages or looking at their mirrored image is the key to solving the mystery and cracking the language.
