I saw them at the Forum in Los Angeles in December, 1969. The Stones came on at 4:00 a.m. following Ike and Tina Turner and B. B. King. They were to do two shows of 45 minutes each. There was an ice hockey game and they couldn't clear the ice in time. The first show started at 11:00 p.m. We waited outside. People were passing joints around until we got in at 2:00 a.m. Ike and Tina started with "Come Together". When they Stones came on Mick said that because we waited so long that instead of a 45 minute show they were going to do a two hour show. They then went into a half hour version of "Satisfaction" with Keith and Mick Taylor tearing up the place. What a show..

I watched the very first airing of this videotape in January 1970 on public television station WTVS Channel 56 in Detroit (PBS). The show "Detroit Tubeworks" was produced by the legendary FM underground radio station WABX.... one of the greatest underground radio stations in the Nation. The TV show was hosted by WABX "Air Ace" Dave Dixon. Thanks for posting this over 50 years later!
@bendyment4164
@bendyment4164 2 года назад
Very cool, thanks! Can you confirm if the host at the end of the video is Dave? I didn't have much luck finding solid info on who was working at WABX back then, and thought the the host looked like Dan Carlisle based on a few pictures.
@carljohnson3747
@carljohnson3747 2 года назад
Ben, yes....it very well could have been Dan Carlisle. Dave Dixon hosted the majority of Tubeworks broadcasts, so I assumed it was Dixon. What a magic time of free-form radio.

I was at this show!!! They were amazing that night. If there was such a thing as a perfect rock and roll concert this may have been it. Maybe the best show of the entire tour. This show was better than Ya Yas. This should have been the live album. I remember this video. Saw it on channel 56.

Mick Taylor. Lord! The tape is so raw it is like you are there weirdly compared to films you see. Especially form the Mick Taylor perspective and a long shot of Jagger, not the ultra-closeups that usually goes along with Stones videos. You could tell the whole crowd was into it also. Great feeling when the whole place is rocking. Man I wish I was there during that time.

My regret too. 72 would have been tough to finagle as I was only 15, but 75 or 79 would have worked. In a sense I am am glad I didn't go to 75 because of the drugs and the show was too bloated at that time. Mick's voice was awful imo during that tour too.
