Now, it's 2021, 32 years later, and they're still going strong. Been watching some of their current tour dates and I'm amazed. Mick's, Keith's, and Ronnie's appearances have gotten older but they are still playing like it's 1989. RIP Charlie.
I remember watching this interview the night it aired. I was 15. I taped it and watched it over and over again. I'm surprised I didn't wear that tape out. Haven't seen this in years. Thanks for that.
No. The Rolling Stones are in a league of their own. As fine as I thought The Beatles were, they only toured for 3-4 years…no comparison. The Stones rule!
Holy moly 31 years later and Stones are Still Rolling on amazing!! Hopefully they will tour again next year or wherever?? Bcuz I've never seen them so yeah..Keef and Co. Plz come back up to Boston..🎸🥁🎷🎺🎹🎙..✌
I saw the Stones in May of 2015 in the USA Zip Code Tour. I went with my best friend Sylvia, she died in 2017. I am grateful she got to see the Stones one last time before she died. Love you, Rolling Stones. Love you, Sylvia.
Awwe that was bitter sweet I'm sorry ur friend passed away 🙏 But she and u were able to I'm assuming had a awesome time at the Stones Show.. Greetings from Boston,Mass. ✌
Wow! 46 looks young on Jagger! '89 was my graduation year, I remember all the hype for that tour. I have always liked Mick Jagger, his voice and annunciation of words when singing. Older songs were really good.
The older we get, the more we see that age is just a number. 1989 was my high school graduation as well. My mother is 84 and she didn't start declining in health until 81, and that's only because she didn't take care of herself. We have great examples in the Stones to keep active and to go get a tune up when needed like Mick just did.
I saw them in 1997, but I was hesitant because I thought they were too old already. Awesome!! Then I saw them in 2006. Amazing !! Now, I have tickets for Jacksonville April 2019. Go Stones!!!
I caught the Steel Wheels tour in Cincinnati and Indianapolis, and the Tattoo You tour in Chicago in 1981. The Tattoo You show was incredible. My first Stones concert and it did not disappoint. Flash forward 8 years and the Steel Wheels tour. They were even better. I caught the Cincinnati show early in the tour and the band was just tight and sounded incredible, same for the Indianapolis show. Back then, people thought the Stones were washed up. They definitely were not. Like a fine wine, it seems like the Stones got better with age. I've not caught any of their concerts since the Steel Wheels tour, but from what I've heard, they can still rock with the best of them. Long live the Rolling Stones!
I was fortunate to see the 81 tour. It was my first Stones show as well. Saw them again on Steel Wheels and again for Voodoo Lounge. Fantastic shows all three times but for me 81 was my favorite. Not necessarily because they were better but it was just an amazing night the night before and the day of the show. Plus I really loved the sax player who originally played on Waitin On A Friend which is a favorite of mine and just sounded so great that night
Saw them live in 1989 Steel Wheels tour at the Superdome in NOLA. Remembering thinking that would be that last time. Then.....bam 30 years later. Same place, same band.
I saw them back home in Britain last Summer. They have absolutely no right to be still the best !! & God knows they don't need the money !! true living legends....a wonderful night ! To borrow your phrase Steph Herringtonio a ' magical night, seeing a magical band !!!
Best stage BY FAR!! Google sound check for 89' and you'll see some really cool pictures of the stage in the daylight plus they play the entire set song by song. If you liked the stage check that out!!
I was at the Birmingham, AL show for this tour. I had seen them several times before. It was my wife's first Stones show. She enjoyed it so much we have attended several since then.
I remember back in 1981 when tattoo you was released I've gone to the record store to pick it up, I was 14 years old and a man it was probably in about as 50s saw what I had in my hands while I was in line and ask me if I was just getting into the stones. I told him that I had been a fan sense some girls back in 78 he kind of scoffed at me and said oh you go that far back. Hahaha! I remember when this first aired on 20/20 I wonder how many 14 year olds I just gotten into the stone then? 1989 seems like a lifetime ago. In a 1980 interview John Lennon said the amazing thing is not that the Beatles broke up, but that the stones didn't. Some people say they have a pact with the Devil, I guess we'll find out in 2060 when they're doing there one more go around the world tour! One more quote from Pete Townshend from his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of the stones, don't grow old gracefully guys, it wouldn't suit you! Keep on rockin guys!
" All my friends come around FLATTER FLATTER FLATTER !!! ... I'm SHATTERED .. !!! SHADOO BE ! " 46 & too old ??!!! Mick's staple answer to that is " we were asked that a lot when we turned 30 " !!
Saw the Stones Steel Wheels tour in Tampa, FL. In 1989..Last time the original members were together..Great show!..I think it sold out in like 5 minutes 😂
my mother has attended two concerts in her life. elvis in 56 and i took her to the stones in 89.when jagger emerged from behind the curtain she literally collapsed onto me. there he is there he is. i see him mom,now get off of me.
But at that time no one had seen a band that old touring the world at that scale with such a production. So it was new and no one discovered a 70 years old band doing a big worldtour like that.
Ha haaa 25 year's now it's over 50 and Jagger still moving like he did at 25 he's 75 now and man what a front Man!! The main man of the greatest Rock and Roll band ever to Grace planet Earth!!!
I saw the Stones with Taylor in Brussell 73 as a teenager and i'm still in a great shape, you just have to brake progressively with some excess around 40.
I was at the Steel Wheels tour at it was phenomenal and amazing. Mick was always ready to party with the fans. The Stones are definitely delivering on bad ass rock and roll 🎉🎉. This is a experience of a lifetime 🎉🎉. They are hitting on all cylinders. I'm so blessed that they started touring again 🎉🎉
Yes, they are “still going,” but having become an echo of what meaningfully ended in the early 1970s. They appeal to people who like the spectacle more than the music.
@@nicmart Clearly you can't stand the same creativity all this time and they spent more time recording, for exemple Exile, a few months not a few hours. But they actually have more experience.
Crazy. I was at that show and now I'm 46. Then They were new to me, as a band/live show. I was the only one w a license so I drove the 77 Regal and had a lil lsd. My rock'n'roll world was changed for the way better. Way...Sway
I dropped some bad acid at the show in 81' Took the wrong bus back home. Instead of going from New Orleans to Birmingham my sister and I wound up in North Carolina. Needless to say we were grounded forever. That was my first Stones show!!
They came to Louisville and my son turned 16 so that was his gift Liveing Colour opened it was so FROSTY. My tickets cost 150 dollars ( 2 ) money well spent 10 rolls from the stage
I paid $3 yes 3$to see them in Syracuse NY in 1966! The Aftermath era. I had never seen such raw power and have been a fan ever since. Saw them in Boston '69 and Miami twice '81 and '89.
I'm so glad stones got back together in late 80s they are amazing seeing the the stones live it's like a great event ,circus great music theres nothing like it.
I started buying their albums in 1970 and they've always been my favorite band, saw them for the first time in 1981, twice in 1989, twice in 1994 and one last time in 1997. I remember this interview well and now Mick and Keith are both 80 and about to kick off another tour here in the states with their latest album Hackney Diamonds out but I can no longer afford the shows. They ARE the greatest rock and roll band of all time!!!
The thought of Mick Jagger being over the hill at 46 is incredibly disturbing. Then again, the idea of Mick Jagger once being 46 when he’s now 78 or 79 is also kind of disturbing.
Comments from the vault. Now here we are, a few decades later, the band will celebrate their 60 anniversary next year and still touring. The comment " with every cigarette you smoke, you take one day of your life and give it to Keith Richards" has never been more relevant. If Keith goes, we all go. And Keith will be the one to turn off the light.
Dude how old are you they're in their 70s now and still doing it you probably can't stand up during the whole show and Jagger still running around in a 70s running
It’s only their 25 years anniversary and the host wondered if they could last. Mick jagger at 46 was old! Now they just passed 60 year’s anniversary and Mick is 80 years old!
HERE IT IS 2022 AND THE BOYS HAVE BEEN GOING FOR 60 YRS COME JULY, I WONDER WHAT ALL THESE CRITICS WHO WERE COMMENTING AND QUESTIONING THEIR YOUTHFULNESS AND ENDURANCE WOULD HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEM IN 2022, IF THEY ARE EVEN STILL ALIVE TO BE COMMENTED CAUSE THEY KEEP ON GOING AND GOING AND GOING AND GOING.
I like the part at the end about the contrast between Jagger being so open and flamboyant on stage, and reserved and guarded in the interview. That's our Mick.
if everyone who ever saw the stones play jumped at the same time I think the earth might move on its axis. Late 80`s was the dawn of megabucks, of course they would tour
Good interview! However the best interview with Mike Jagger was done by Dan Aykroyd masquerading has Tom Snyder on SNL back in 79. Don't believe me, check it out very revealing LOL!
