Ever seen a singer that does not want to sing? Well, Mr. Jagger sometimes appear to be tired or just fed up with life at some shows, this being a very good example
As I mentioned at every '75 upload of mine, Jagger is not very good; Actually, this tour was faded to failure! First of all, with Mick T., they didn't want to tour; He leaves, they decide to tour with Ron. Why is that??!!
They got somehow greedy; I believe in '74 they truly were the greatest rock band in the world, and they knew that! So ''a giant inflatable phallus (nicknamed 'Tired Grandfather' by the band, since it sometimes malfunctioned)'' was among the extravagant things they would put up to, damaging the tour potential
Keith Richards was soaked in heroin....so, that's a nasty negative point;
As for Jagger, again, as mentioned earlier, was sloppy and not singing properly his own songs ('76 too) for the first time in a Stones tour; For that fact the band has to work twice as hard! hahaha And actually sound like they did! Ronnie is soloing like never in his life, Bill's Bill, Charlie's drumming never sounded, or would sound, better and added with the percussion of Ollie E. Brown the rhythm section is impeccable!
Enjoy dear friends
Setlist:
Honky Tonk Women; 5:15 All Down the Line (Bad); 9:17 If You Can't Rock Me (Mick's barely singing it); 12:47 Get Off My Cloud; 17:33 Star Star; 21:57 Gimme Shelter (Amazing guitar solo); 28:53 Ain't Too Proud to Beg; 33:27 You Gotta Move; 33:37 You Can't Always Get What You Want (Again, amazing solo); 50:22 Happy; 53:42 Tumbling Dice; 59:26 It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I like it); 1:05:49 Band Intro/Heartbreaker; 1:12:40 Fingerprint File (One of the worst versions); 1:21:20 Cherry Oh Baby; 1:29:43 Angie; 1:35:20 Wild Horses; 1:42:42 That's Life/Outta Space; 1:48:56 Brown Sugar; 1:54:01 Midnight Rambler; 2:07:50 Rip This Joint; 2:10:15 Street Fighting Man; 2:13:53 Jumpin' Jack Flash; 2:21:37 Sympathy for the Devil (Great bass playing by Bill, plus, Carlos freaking Santana as guest!)

I was at the June 25th show. It was my first concert. I was 15. It was the greatest show. Starting from Honky Tonk Women. Ronnie Wood joined the band. I was also a big Mick Taylor fan. Ronnie held his own. I also remember Billy Preston played with them and blew the house down. They are truly the Greatest Rock and Roll band in the world.

I was there a the Garden in the Big Apple as I lived on the West bank of the Hudson River in the 6th borough of Jersey City, New Jersey. It was the first time I ever saw the Rolling Stones live. I was mesmerized..but I was frightened when Mick Jagger jumped on this rope with no net or safety guard of any kind and suddenly grabbed this long rope hanging from the ceiling about 500 feet high & zoom he took off and flew well over a hundred feet over the crowd on the floor. I was sitting above the mezzanine and he went way above us. The speed and suddenness of this unexpected stunt made my heart skip a beat. Clearly Jagger isn't afraid of heights at all. I never realized that he was a crazy daredevil. It wasn't until 20 years or more later when I read a book about the Stones that I found out that he worked out exercising under his father's supervision who was like the foremost Physical Education Instructor in Great Britain. He had to do this with his brother Chris at least an hour every day & unsurprisingly was quite an athlete excelling in Basketball, soccer, cricket, rock climbing & more. No wonder this guy can move around like he does, even to this day. And people thought he was a hedonistic drug addict who didn't take care of himself. WRONG!!! BTW...The Rolling Stones were great & still are.

THANK You kindly for posting this. I really loved hearing it for the first time. A real plus for me is I really love the set list for this tour. I think that it's not up to the Rolling stones high standards for sound quality but to hear what they sounded like with out mixing and post production is a real treat.I along with many many stones fan's appreciate your efforts and thanks for posting the set list with it. On the first time that I listened I was very curious what songs they had played so the set list came in real handy. The first time that I heard them live was in Philadelphia Pa in 1981 and it was the opening of the world tour and I thought that they sounded terrible. I couldn't believe how far they had fallen from the greatest rock and roll band. The next day they played again and the scalpers couldn't give the tickets away. Greetings from Atlantic City New Jersey U S A! Semper Fi!

Better than 78 in Philly.. That was terrible. They opened the tour there. It was the first vtime I was able to get tickets. I waited in line forever in 75 but they sold out. Being a teenager, I couldn't afford scalped tickets which I remember going for about 200 dollars in 75. I've seen them since and they were better I love the stones but wish I could have seen them in 72 with Mick Taylor From watching You Tube, it seems as though that was their best

This was Micks funk phase where he emulated singing with a growl like old bluesman. With the sped up pacing and the violent ferocity of clashing guitars Micks voice worked. I think the 75 tour was great. Far more energetic than previous tours. They played some interesting stuff . From Black & Blue hand of fate crazy mama. The you cant rock me- Get off my cloud was classic stones swing!! Jaggar was sloppy drunk & coked out. By the time I saw them in Los Angeles with that folding stage. Best opening I've seen with Honky Tonk woman.blasting as Jaggar tried to jump to get it to unfold. Keef was a mess this tour. His addictions got progressively worse! He was a shade of purple when he rolled into the forum. They played 5 nights, all shows were attended by the Hollywood elite..A giant party this tour was. Wood added some needed playfulness MT couldnt. What's sad is RW was about to get that Keef influence himself. His own addictions blossomed into full fledged addiction to crack cocaine...Billy Preston and Keef had problems with Keef actually pulling a knife on him. All over Billy's piano style. Great tour! MT better technically of course. RW held his own. He was supposed to be on loan from thE FACES. He had just left their 75 tour of america..Give him his due. He filled in nicely.....

George, a belated THANKS for posting this! Interesting all the flack you've gotten over the years for your fair and accurate critique. I was there. Fourth row, directly in front of Bill Wyman. Expecting a reprise of their already iconic '72 MSG performances, I couldn't have been more excited as the lights dimmed. And I just sat/stood there after the epic lotus-petal unfolded into HTW wondering, where's the magic? Why aren't I feeling anything? Where's that jolt of electricity I felt 3 years earlier in D.C.? The Stones are sufficiently gifted and professional to get "the job" done despite going through the motions. Sadly, a shorter, better paced, tighter set would have done them (and us) a world of good. (They were a different -- and far superior -- band 3 years later at a small club show!)
@romelovesdan
@romelovesdan 11 лет назад
Ups and Downs, magic and malaise, such is life itself. Jagger even attempts to explain a bit what's going on at 50:15... The important part in all this is that the history of the band is preserved by recordings/postings of the shows. My extreme gratitude goes out to all those wonderful tapers who's material continues to be shared even now. This show in particular has a brave performance of Cherry Oh Baby, and the Sympathy for The Devil with Carlos Santana. Like them or not, thankfully they were preserved via magical magnetic tape, otherwise it would be lost in the second after the notes were played.

Man, I love Jagger's singing in '75 for the most part. If you can't Rock Me, Gimme Shelter, All Down The Line, Starfucker... all fab great vocally. And the LA 75 from the vault release is an even greater example of this. That said, both the 72 and 78 tour are better in general IMO. Still, apart from that, the 75 tour is more satisfying than any tour since. Yes!

never said he was clean, just feel for him. If you have played as a drummer, you know that if all your band mates are drinking, its okay, if they all smoke a little weed its okay, BUt, if one guy is on heroin, one taking pills, one drinking heavily, etc, it makes everyone's timing different. It is hell on a drummer
@PieIX

Disagree and have played drums for many years. The drummers job is to be rock steady no matter what and certainly does not depend on what the other instruments in the band are doing with the exception perhaps of the bass player with whom he should be locked in or in the pocket as they say. Don Was in fact stated that the other players in the Stones are off anyway with Wyman being ahead of the beat and Keith being behind the beat.

So yeah, late to the party here. I also saw this show. I hate to say it, but I recall thinking even that night how sloppy and lazy they were. How they didn't seem to be doing anything but trying to get off the stage as quickly as possible and how Mick was just shouting through the songs. Like they had a taxi with a meter running outside. So, no. It's not just poor quality audio or lack of context without visuals. And nope, it's not the "live isn't a record" thing. I saw them at MSG (my very first concert) a few years earlier with Mick Taylor and they were AMAZING. No comparison in the quality of the playing or the performance in general. They just didn't care in 75 and you can hear it.

Was the tour (not this one, the 76 European tour, the Paris concert) when I discovered the Stones.. A Bang & Olofsen store near by home, in Lisboa, a friend passed by, VHS tape on color TV.. Told us great concert on the store.. Day after him, me and a few.. A week after a lot of kids... The man in the store was OK.. Do you want louder?... Yes, OK please... Then we all started buying records, my first I remember was Get Yer, This one Love you live, Black and blue, Some Girls ( Great gig disco and punk album).. We all became great fans, first concert in Madrid 7 July 1982 with 48 degrees and a thunderstorm when they go to stage play Under my thumb.. World soccer 1982 and lot of Italian girls..! Then they became angry each other and bought Keith with the X Pensive Winos record... Never bought Mick albums, but some good songs.. In 1990 (or 1989 in USA) they make the peace after the war, great tour.. And the rest of the story was go, We all go I suppose, to see all of them several times.. My friends and me were the third generation I think to know the Stones.. In 77, 1978.. Know almost everything.. The "Who's the Stones best times, álbuns, Mick Taylor was fabulous, Ron Wood don't know what.. Etc.. They adapt to times, even in songs, great guitar with Taylor, but late 70's don't fit, Ronnie Wood was a good choice, between the Punk and New Wave, this one with a lot of Great Bands, and Clash and Ramones much better than Pistols.. Stones still Rock and Roll, more straight to the point, etc.. OK etc.. Got to stop.. Regards to all

This RS's tour (75) should be labeled THE JET SET TOUR...cause that was what they were and who they partied with. Long gone were the days of being socially relevant artists who played on the edge, that met the asphalt when they ran into the Hells Angels at Altamont back in 69. Now it was all a self indulgent drug induced party down high followed by Disco at Studio 54 in 78.

Yes everyone got high back then as a norm but most concert tickets were only about 6 dollars in the 70s. Went just to have a good time. Stones tickets were very hard to get. Scalpers are called scalpers for a reason. Do they still have them? Haven't been to a show forever. Wound up working with show promotors in the 80s. Saw so many of my idols and bands for free -- so totally awesome -- Stones included. Settled down and now I have the time but just like in 75 when I was a teenager vi couldn't afford a scalpers ticket -- now I can't afford a regular ticket😚

France after they exiled from the U.K.I saw the same show in Boston. I totally disagree with the what was published on May 6-27-75. I have yet to see a concert to even come close. Billy Preston was a great acquisition for the tour. What the publisher is failing to recognize is Black & Blue had just been released. The Stones were a heavy weight band with Mick Taylor. Sure they got a knock out punch when Mick T decided to part ways and declare his individuality from Jagger & Richards. Taylor admitted "I didn't like the person I was becoming" When your a hired gun for Mick & Keith it's their way or the highway. They wrote ventilator blues in Keith's mansion in South of France after they exiled from the U.K. That was the only number Taylor got any credit in writing on the LP. But like a heavyweight fighter. They got up off the mat, saved by the bell and continued to write some incredible compositions. Okay, I'll admit. The Taylor years was my favorite line up. How can you compare the Jones years to Woody or Taylor. You can't!. Each line up had it's own individuality. All three separate bands had their own body of work & could easily be in the H.O.F. in Cleveland. Black &^ Blue was and will be forever a great LP. Memory motel, Fool to cry, Hand of fate? I need say no more about the LP. Back to this concert. Woody was on his debut tour with the band. Like any band with a new guitarist. He needed to get tight with the rest of the ensemble. The Stones in the 70's played their best music live. After the untimely death of Jones. The concert in Hyde Park Taylor had to go through the same thing Woody went through on this tour. To say Jagger was going though the motions & Greedy is unfair & a very poor statement. The band pours their heart & soul in every live performance. Lay off the greatest Rock &^ Roll band to ever graze the stage. And let Keith on heroin go. come on man. He paid the price and hasn't touched it since? well that's his business. He is an all time great composer & will be emulated for centuries to come just like Beethoven.Bach, & of coarse Lennon & McCartney...

I saw the first MSG show that week, along with the third show. The sound was very distorted but it was still a trip seeing the Stones for the first time. The guest guitarist that first night was Eric Clapton (who was hard to recognize with a full length beard and beret) and Keith played bass on Sympathy for the Devil. I suspect Keith is on bass here for Sympathy as it is a different playing style than Bill W. I had a ticket for this show but gave it my younger sister (under the threat of bodily harm from mom, who didn't take no shit from no one whatsoever).

Was at this show and can verify this recording as same. At 1:06, firecrackers go off and Jagger warns the crowd about not blowing off any girls' asses. Keith chimes in with, "If you're gonna fuck 'em, fuck 'em!". I distinctly recall this "incident", which cracked me up in real time. Of course, I wasn't yet a legal adult. But this is that show. No doubt.

NYC in the late 60's & 70's had sooo many venues, MSG, Felt Forum, Academy of Music, the Beacon, Avery Fisher hall, Radio City music (Bowie did a week there) the Filmore East, plus all the cool clubs. And the best part was the variety from Punk & Glitter to Classic R&R, Country rock, it was playing and $12.50 a seat, imaging seeing Roxy Music 3rd row for 15 bucks. Great music at fun times !

Compared to late '70's shows such as on the SOME GIRLS tour, Mick's voice actually doesn't sound so bad here, and it tends to vary. The LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER movie from the '81 tour has parts such as "Shattered" where Mick's voice is absolutely shot, and rigorous touring will do that. (Do you think that human vocal cords are made of iron?) Regarding Mick Taylor, my understanding is that he resigned just before the '74 tour was about to begin (much to the dismay of the band) and that's when Ronnie Wood was recruited for the tour before becoming officially inducted as a Stone for the BLACK AND BLUE album in '76, and Ronnie had to crash course to learn his guitar parts basically on the fly and he did an admirable job. (BTW, Mick Taylor's post-Stones career never amounted to anything, really.)

MSG June 27, 1975 was not only the first time I'd ever been to a Stones concert, but it was also the first concert I had ever been to. By then, I was beginning to amass a few bootleg recordings of the band. So, while I loved the show, it definitely was not the European tour of 1973 - or even the American Tour of 1972. I thought Jagger's singing on the '75 TOTA was very contrived/contorted. Thought he might have been protecting his vocal chords due to injury, trying to injure himself, or simply saving his voice to make it through what was scheduled to be a very long tour (which got confined to just North America, when South America got canceled). Whatever his reasons, I didn't like his 'new' sound. But the biggest disappointment from that night was the omission of Jagger/Richards sharing one mic on "Happy". I had already seen "Ladies & Gents..." two/three dozen times at a $1.00 midnight movie house in Boston, and was looking forward to that particular feature at MSG - but it was MIA. The Glimmer Twins seemed to be less than fraternal, imho. Too bad, but not as bad as it would get between the two. Coolest thing about this June 27th show, was when the lotus petal stage rotated during one of the last tunes (SFM or JJF, can't recall which), revealing a perfect profile of Ian Stewart - the Mystery Piano man, live and in color - with his head down, greasy hair shaking, hands banging on the keyboard of a piano. Seeing Stew in action was worth the price of admission alone. According to Rolling Stone magazine, 6/27 was the best of the Stones' 6-show residency at MSG in 1975, some of the others reportedly plagued with sound problems. In summary, it was a great show - but it wasn't 1972 or 1973. I would've traded in my '75 ticket for a chance at either of those tours.

The problem was not Richard heroin addiction, but money problem...for Keith there was blood trasfusion et voila'. M T. was tired to loose one year to make a record....and tired to not have money of his song...there was the fact that boy scout. M.T. look was not good for the two leaders. M.T. knew all that and said goodbye. For me he has been crazy or stupid...R.W. was not an eccetional guitarist, but his imagine was perfect. He carried his sympathy (not for the devil) and PAX between M.J. and K.R. It was not small thing at that time.

ronnie does a pretty good job here. i was at this one but don't remember missing mt because woody really tried to match some of the mt blues runs, and didn't do bad. but not quite, after all and as time went on he decided instead of playing lead he'd just become the stones' b team rhythm guitarist. and that is the main reason there really wasn't much more to the stones after 1975.

Keith never again played like this after the El Mocambo shows. The El Mocambo shows have never been released the way the shows were actually performed. The bootlegs only offer overdub sessions "performed" in the studio. Keith's slashing, crashing rhythm chords died in 1977. The 1975 tour was soaked in cocaine and heroin. Those were the only things that kept the shows from being even worse than they sometimes were. The last show of the MSG stand is presented here in what was an extremely good master tape -- this is likely a 2nd generation from master tape used for Capt. Acid's remaster.
