Well, hello again! How the fuck are you doing?? I think you must have figured out that I'm not a regular uploader anymore, still, periodical uploads are still uploads ain't I right?
Let's go then! Passaic city, New Jersey, June 14th 1978, during the american tour to promote Some Girls
This tour sound, looks and is quite alike the next 1981 and 1982 tours over the USA and Europe, Jagger pretty much sounds the same, with a stammering voice, still, with great vocals and ad-libbings not to mention great performances
For example, for Bill Wyman, everything is awesome; His lines are clean and neet, no need for more compliment as he rocks (It's a clean audio recording, you can hear most of him); Moving on, Keith Richards! Even though he's the main creator of the riffs and musics his guitar bits are not exactly awesome and the best ever, they're just very well played, just like he created them, and it sounds good!
Charles Watts, his fills are somehow the same; He's still wicked and amazing and VERY fast, but he's not like he was in 1976, his drum kit is smaller, so the sounds of the filling is quite the same for most of the show. But his drumming on Street Fighting Man and All Down the Line are out of this world, must say
THE man, as in Knebby '76, on this one is Ronnie Wood! Amazing solos and guitar lines like on Tumbling Dice and Far Away Eyes, not to mention, because of him, my favourite live version of Miss You! Enjoy!
(Amazing) Setlist:
Let It Rock; 2:32 All Down The Line; 6:55 Honky Tonk Women; 10:19 Star Star; 14:45 When the Whip Comes Down; 19:35 Miss You; 27:10 Just My Imagination; 33:40 Lies; 38:09 Beast Of Burden; 43:53 Respectable; 47:43 Far Aways Eyes; 54:00 Love In Vain; 59:34 Band Intro ~~ Shattered; 1:05:16 Sweet Little Sixteen; 1:08:42 Tumbling Dice; 1:13:33 (Surprisingly good) Happy; 1:17:14 Brown Sugar; 1:20:51 Jumpin' Jack Flash; 1:25:16 Street Fighting Man

Glorious. Staple of any decent stones bootleg collection back in the day. Have to take exception to the comment it’s the same as ‘81/‘82. ‘78 was really the last vital tour. Discuss.

I grew up on bootlegs from the 72-73 era, but there is something special about this performance. I think the world (and the Stones) were surprised that they could make a good album.

Right? I feel like even now, the minimal punk attitude used here, when applied to shows & recording, could result in some pretty good material.

I saw the 7th and last small hall show 6 weeks later. That night Peter Tosh had blown the Stones off the stage but Watts & co. put on a show they released a film of (Some Girls in Ft Worth or something) so they must've thought it was good. In retrospect I had to admit the Stones were great in that 2000 seat hall, but don't think this setlist translated well to stadium audiences with 8 brand new songs wedged in the belly of the set between the anthems and hits. 1978 was the last time the Stones didn't go out with 8 or 10 sidemen so I consider myself lucky. I'd seen them play two shows in 1972 the same day with Mick Taylor, Jim Price, Bobby Keys & Nicky Hopkins but that didn't bother me one bit---three of the best concerts I ever went to.

I was in USCG Boot camp Alameda Ca. Summer 1978 We could hear the Stones playing at the Oakland Coliseum...The Drill instructor made it clear that we would NOT be attending that concert. I made a vow I would see them live and I did in 1981...where Prince got booed of the stage J giels and george thourogood did not

Best NYC area show of the tour; the Palladium show a few days earlier for the glitterati wasn't as killer, ranks w the famed Memphis & Dallas shows as the best of the (short) '78 American tour.

No way, Wood is not great, but it's Keiths playing that produce the Stones sound. MT very overated, often people think great stuff Keith's playing is played by MT. And when he played to long solos live it disturbed the classic Stones sound. Wood learned not to do that, knows his place. Look, closley on tv clips from the MT(he seems to be a nice person, a pity that he has had so much trouble in his life) era. Look and listen and you will be wiser.
@perjonsson8033
@perjonsson8033 3 года назад
@@jarleskjelbred How can it be the Stones sound he was only in for 5 years. And look at the stuff they came with before his stint and after. Without Richards no Stones sound. He's not always in the front of the sound picture but he's there, dictating the rythm and playing. And listen to a few songs were Richards is said not play on, not much of a Stones sound there. And MT hasn't done anything someone have taken notice at afterwards. But hey it's only rock'n roll and we like it. And tastes in music of course differs. I think the sound of the 69 tour and Get yer ya ya's out is a high watermark. And MT was in the band. And "Exile" is a masterpice.
@perjonsson8033
@perjonsson8033 3 года назад
@@jarleskjelbred Well that depends on many things, who else they would have had playing etc, etc.... But I think it's a pity that he didn't get togheter with the right people and made something. His talent seems wasted. He's so good a guitarplayer. That sucks. Think it to a great deal depends on his addicton. He has made a lot of fast jobs as a studiemusician. He should have stayed, says he don' t know why he left. But it seems that, several other persons talked him into it. Had he stayed, no money problems and certified great talents to play with. Always a pity when talent gets wasted.
