With the holiday season approaching and sometimes our tendency of indulging ourselves during this period, I thought that I had to share with you something seen recently for which I totally fell for.
So unlike some of the dream timepieces we have the chance of getting our hands on, today we have a special toolbox to share with you and I can promise that it is also part of this club of dream objects I wouldn't mind having standing in my office!
The Coffret Tradition by Swiss company Petitpierre represents the Rolls of tools and though I most probably wouldn't use many of the tools found in this box, I would nevertheless look at it very often and more importantly hold in my hands some of these tools. There is something actually quite sensual about them and yes I understand that I may sound a little bit crazy with my appreciation, but I simply find the entire package extremely desirable and it was really interesting to better understand how they are made and what makes them special.
I hope you will enjoy this and if you want to know more, here's a link to their website petitpierre.ch/outillage/coff... with a full description of the toolbox. So far this webpage is in French only, but it should be available in English pretty shortly. If you need any further info, please don't hesitate to contact us.
The very best to all and Viva Watchmaking!

As a watchmaker this is like a wet dream. That box is gorgeous. The blower (bellows) is definitely my favorite! It looks so nice especially when compared to the crappy rubber ones everyone makes!

I always get second hand excitement from your videos, Marc! It’s great to learn about the various things in the watchmaking industry that are not directly the watches themselves. Like the one where you visit a lab that works on high magnification lens technology.

Truly stunning toolbox! A rich watchmakers dream! Althought it is still equipped with pretty basic tools, it is clearly not for me :-) A custom tool for closing a watch or setting a cristal would have been nice too, or a beautiful and unique huit-chiffre, achevage, poising tools or custom oil tools... or a small toolset with rounded india stones for working these rounded screwdriver heads. Or a custom set of microfibres with personalized names, or laserengraved tools with my own initials etc.. I see this box in a showroom or as a artpiece, but not in a practical enviroment. I would rather see a bigger, bit beefier toolbox with 3 layers in a more practical, rugged pelican case, with even more tools and customizable stuff inside. Imagine, if the box itself could be a calibrated watchtester with microfone and small display? Great video as always marc! 👋 thanks for that! Viva watchmaking!

I would personally love to have it without any intention of pretending being a watchmaker, i would simply love to touch these tools once in a while, just for the nice sensation ;) i know, i may sound a bit crazy, but don’t worry, all good 👍

@@WATCHESTVcom Yes they are just too good to use. For exhibition only I think... but I wouldn't mind the torque screwdriver.
@Chrisamic

For the cost of this toolbox you could put yourself and four other people through watchmaker school, and supply all the tools and materials they would need (just not tools like these ones). I find the screwdrivers in this set particularly annoying - they can not be dressed with a flat stone. I dress my tools several times a week, and while my tools are not as lavish as these, they are much broader in scope (I have a lot more tools to do lots more tasks, and which didn't cost anything like what these ones do).
@RollaArtis
@RollaArtis 2 года назад
@@Chrisamic As I indicated, they would not be of any practical use but are just an impressive and expensive display As with many wristwatches produced at the present time.

And only made to order, as is all the tools made by Petitpierre. I can tell you that the «tournevis dynamométrique» alone is over 500 CHF and has a lead time of seven weeks.

Rolex have one only purchasable by their Authorized Dealers and the screw drivers appear to have around 5 colour coded pre-set torque bodies and colour coded heads for different sizes screws. I presume there must be a data sheet on each model regarding the bracket link screws: Which colour coded head to use on which colour coded screwdriver body of specific pre-set torque. Counter-intuitively they include superglue in the box or the equivalent that some watch dealer You Tubers have disclosed: David Khalil of Mayfair London used/ pre-owned ‘Watchcollectors’ A screw fixing compound used on link screws so they don’t unscrew automatically and you lose the watch. This is supposed to be why Patek Philippe appear to use the force fitted pins and sleeves in Nautilus bracelets which don’t feature individual screws for the links. I have also seen on a NYC Authirised Dealer a photo of a small laser powered tool/ jig holding a link whilst it is heated to melt the screw fixing compound, which is apparently available in different strengths and from Loctite. It is why you should only get your watch from an Authorized Dealer who will have all the required tools to remove links and size the brand new watch.

That or human nature is very finicky and people will pay for what they perceive to be worth the price. Same goes for watches, fountain pens, sports cars, and so on.
@groundzero6662
@groundzero6662 2 года назад
@@blargvlarg1390 As a maker of precision things if I spend months making something because of my passion, and someone is willing to pay my asking price.... that is the only thing it is about. The maker of an object defines its true value, not the person perceiving its value. Only after it passes from the makers hands does the "market of perceived value" come into play. Two words... Rolex Daytona And I would happily part with my $20K US for these tools if only I had the budget.
@blargvlarg1390
@blargvlarg1390 2 года назад
@@groundzero6662 Not sure I get what you mean. In a transaction, both parties would have to agree to a price. One where the seller is wiling to sell, and the buyer is willing to buy. I understand the "true value" increases proportionately with the quality and craftsmanship, but it is not quantifiable and is very subjective. The makers may set whatever price they want, but the "true" price is decided on by the paying customers.
