I bought this cd the day it came out because I was having knee surgery the next day. After I got home from the hospital, I played the album version of this song on loop for 2 straight days. It’s still raw 15 years later
That's how it was in the 90s..... these young cats these days have no clue how it was before. Ordering a song on the box waiting at the tv for ot to come. Watching MTV. Bumping the radio..... copying cassettes...... now we got youtube and spotify..... they are spoiled.... 40 bucks for a new cd bro...... 😂✌️
@@s.c.8296Nah bro, me and my friends been listening to MP3s since 97. Burning CDs to put in the portable player. Making sure you have over 5 seconds of skip protection. Turning the volume all the way up on the radio and the portable player...
You have to love The Roots in that there is no song that defines them. They've produced so many quality songs, different people like certain songs more. Best hip-hop group of all time.
can related to the guy with his kid....having been in the game, chopping shit in the hood n all...fast cash only brings fast heat....got a lil boy now too....so the game changes....slow down, live life, live the struggle now eery daybut its for him....and my girl too...set a better example of stronger truer values....life, love and family are the three things matter the most.....getting and keepin it all together and keeping it real....that i can respect.
@@Yoisthatabe Dunno if you like it but check out the album “Lyfe N' Tyme“ of “The B.U.M.S“ If you like the mix of Jazz&Rap I can also recommend you the group “Us3“!
Much respect to the young man at the end with the daughter, and others like him. Humble men with priorities, who know nothing is too demeaning when you need to feed your family.
Good on the Roots for a sampling a very underrated classic tune by Sly & The Family Stone. I also liked this video and how it shows real people instead of usual rappers bragging about themselves. and their material things. I used to work at a fast food place, and did all the young guy in this video was doing, lol.
That's funny because I never heard of the Sly & Family Stone original. But my parents used to play a reggae version, cant remember who sang it but it was called - Every nigga is a star, I'm not kidding!
+TheJofrica that's what I've been realizing lately, been listening to the roots all the time and you can listen to hundreds of dope songs it's insane how much good shit they made
The reach of The Roots love. Went to see them live in Nottingham, UK in early 2000s after the release of The Tipping Point and bought a T-shirt post show. Wore the T out in Qatar whilst serving and met an American Airman who embraced me with a hug. “Dude, that’s my favourite band, love that you have their T on”. No hello, no intro, just Roots love.
"Been rapping since I was 14, I'm 20 now so that's 6 years in the game. I feel I got a shot baby, just give me the opportunity, I'll make you shine." That dude has me so hype every time I see this video. I hope somebody gave him a shot....
We, everyday people, have the real power. If we only knew... Peace and blessings to all the upright, loyal king warriors and queen warriors in the house.
I hope that youngster with the daughter kept on the right path. Beautiful to see a young men let his streetpride slide away and chose the only correct way there is. "This is my life now" are some strong words that hit me deep. One love to you brother ❤
Thank you. Cant believe its been almost 10 years since this came out. This song has been a source of inspiration and brings me back down to earth so many times now. We can do this yall, we are all in this together! We are all playing in the band! To all my people thats stars, its OUR time to shine!!!
^^^ I agree. I love the title ATYSYC but it's been hard for me to get into. I remember the talk on The Tipping Point and I still love it. Even when they're bad, they're good :)
ProtaJ I was the fast food kid. Not literally, but I been in his shoes. I know dejection, anxiety, & frustration very well. To the point that you think of giving up. My advice to anyone in that situation would be: life isn't fair, ESPECIALLY if your poor! & it won't be easy but you can improve your situation, it will take brains, hard work mental and physical, and perseverence. & you can take the shitty hand that life has dealt you and turn it into a winner.
@TajhSutton That's what I'm doing, I just wonder about the people calling the style dead, but everything they're doing is visiting old song's videos and hating about a random hip-pop artist, that is so paradox...
Get 'em up high okay, yeah Go all-star, and get down for yours To the ladies in the house, we proud of y'all You got the, Roots crew with the sound of course High, lift 'em up high, okay When that adrenaline get in they system It get 'em out on a quest for stardom, could be a mother fuckin' problem In Philly, Cincinnati, Los Angeles or Harlem Kids call themselves killers let they hammers do the talkin' Don't even know the meaning of life, ain't seen a thing And you dream of floodin' the scenery with, yayo and greenery But for now, you stickin' her with the heavy machinery Wonder how, you lift it up, be only 17 And like everybody he want to shine, young brothers on the grind Holdin' something in their spine, "Bowling for Columbine" Stressin' to me how it's all about a dollar sign Dig the way you out of line, out of sight and out of mind Up against the clock and damn near out of time "The Tipping Point" has arrived, and that's the bottom line To all my peoples that are stars, it's our time to shine Let's get 'em up high, c'mon Go all-star, and get down for yours To the ladies in the house, we proud of y'all You got the, Roots crew with the sound of course High, lift 'em up high, okay Go all-star, and get down for yours To the ladies in the house, we proud of y'all You got the, Roots crew with the sound of course High, lift 'em up high, okay Yo, ain't it strange how the newspapers play with the language I'm deprogrammin' y'all with uncut slang shit I know some peoples in the party armed and dangerous Twist some cool champagne, I'm goin' through changes A grown-ass man, I done paid my dues Learn the rules lil' homey, you could be one too Niggas know, ain't no tellin' what he gonna' do But recognize young bro, I'mma do it for you You know why? I 💯 % understand the look on that guy's face in the begging. I've been there, with no light at the end of the tunnel. Considered giving up plenty of times. Lied to myself several times saying I was going to be O.K. knowing that it wouldn't but without that lie I had nothing. Then one day, it wasn't I lie, because I had finally got my shit together. I had help from quite a few ppl , but anyone who reads this in the same or similar situation: You can pull yourself out of that hole. I thought I was the last person in the world who could make it. This is not B.S. it's 💯 % real!
I like how The Roots sampled Sly and the Family Stone's "Everybody Is A Star" to make this one of the most uplifting and positive rap songs since "Keep Ya Head." I love it!
❤Sopra le ciglia rimmel ....una canzone che ti porta dolcemente a quel passaggio di staffetta tra le mani gli occhi e il pensiero: è vita questa!! 1:53,04 caxxo!
When it comes to the roots, they do not get enough recognition for me.... Do you people really listen to the things they say????.... Seriously, If u could even muster a negative comment then that say's a lot about u.... You obviously do not know what real Hip Hop sounds like. What defines Hip Hop now a days needs to be buried alive and never to be heard of again.... Music like this, could change lives and influence.... I am absolutely in love with creativity, and the roots HAVE IT! Go Philly!
hey i am really big fan of you and it could be totally fat if you saw the clip me and my sister have done if you want to see you as your keyword, type Emily and Andrea. I come from Denmark so there is far between us smile from emilietruelsen
@r25rjr That's unfair to say since there was still a lot of real emcees in the mainstream after the deaths of Pac and Big. Wu Tang, Nas, MOP, Mobb Deep, Dr. Dre, Too Short, etc. If that ain't real to you than what is.
Was reading some history about Africatown in Mobile and how Questlove is a descendant of two of the original founders. I have visited Mobile and had no idea the site was there, but I plan to visit next time I’m in the area.
