This amazing novelette is full of humorous and portrayed human nature deeply. Mr. Maugham's writing is impeccable and with a little bit of life ridicule. I can guarantee that when you have read three times after, it still gives you some knowing smiles. The ultimate weapon of the bigamist is "attention" of manipulating someone's emotion. He was a genius of well-liked by matured ladies. It might be the real life experience of the author himself.

I used to agree with you. But I think he is more nuanced than that. If you read “The Colonel’s Lady” and “Rain”, the women come off much better than their hypocritical male counterparts.
