➤Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
- MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
- CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
- BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
- GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.
- WONK HARD

He should have removed far more roundabouts than he did. It's ridiculous to have an interchange followed by a large roundabout, followed by a small roundabout, and then having all these bypass roads too. Just let people go where they need to go. The proper thing for a large interchange to lead to is a long straight arterial with minimal bottlenecks, not a series of roundabouts that send people on crazy circles that don't let them get anywhere they want to go, and force them to stop or yield to oncoming traffic repeatedly. Edit: At the very end he did at least remove the smallest roundabout, but he certainly could have done more.

or just delete the entire city and build from scratch. giant circle cities usually don't work. big monolithic industry areas always cause lots of traffic, highways are a mess, roundabouts are all wrong, all the existing TMPE set up are so bad that they're causing more problems than they solve. take all that out and there's nothing left but trees. but that kind of defeats the point. I feel like i should also say something nice, so they've used nice big free flowing interchanges instead of really cramped diamonds too close together like the last city. they haven't used only 6 lane roads everywhere, they haven't chopped the city in half and forced everyone to use the highway to get between the halves. those are all common themes on these city fix videos that they have avoided here.

One other tip I've discovered is not to underestimate pedestrian access. I've found that some (though not all) sims will happily walk/cycle all the way across and entire build square, (for insyance from their 'home' residential zone to their 'work' industrial zone, provided there is a relatively direct pedestrian access, i.e. sidewalks and footpaths. So instead of always using "highway" roads "that don't have sidewalks) I use "regular" roads and use TMPE's "speed" feature to increase the speed limit.
@OlgaGax

I made a city once that I marked no on every inner city road for ALL -pedestrian- traffic (*I meant normal public traffic, all non services). It was a walkers and public transport paradise. The city actually flourished. If people have enough ways to get around they don't need to drive. Public services and trucks get around fast, and everything just runs. You can also sneak in a lot of forced park entrance pathways to scam your people with it xD

@Kr0noZ
@Kr0noZ 3 года назад
No he doesn't. Just like in reality, he forces cars to go where they don't cause issues. I've seen plenty of that in real cities, you're funneled onto an arterial road, have to go halfway around the district and drive in from the back because the traffic planners didn't want to block flow with an intersection for a few miles. In most cases, you'd be faster using public transport and walking the last bit because pedestrian over/underpasses allow foot traffic, but cars get the short straw. I hate walking and take my car everywhere if at all possible, so I absolutely hate these systems but it is what it is.

It's a bit more necessary in this game because the cars choose their routes at the start so they don't react dynamically to things like traffic or changing to faster lanes so you have to be a bit more precise about telling them where to go (or not go).

@robert2690 3 года назад
Did you watch the video? Look at the road layout, it’s AWEFUL. In real life, you plan things and the creator of the city didn’t do so... he decided to place more roads because his traffic is so bad that placing more roads can spread it out. My point is that placing down more roads doesn’t solve the problem. You need to fix your roads layout if you want to get rid of traffic... even if that means destroying zones and building because there is no way city planners do this in real life... if they did, they deserve to lose their job because the road layout, that is BAD planning

No, the node wasn’t broken. The problem was in the restriction on at the end of the node which forced them back on the roundabout. You could see this especially well after the “fixing” of the node. Cars were taking this node, only to be forced back on the roundabout and ending behind the traffic on the roundabout.
@chaosmagican
@chaosmagican 3 года назад
@@fredschenk_VVD What do you mean? They had the inner most lane to continue on the roundabout and the node after gave them opportunity to choose any lane. If you pause at 1:48 you can see that the bottom node has no rules (so they could change to the inner most lane) and the node top-right has no restrictions so they can continue on any of the 3 lanes in the roundabout. If Biffa were to link the workshop links again (which he used to) I could demonstrate.

@@chaosmagican yes but if you look at the lane connectors on the left side the 3 lanes coming in were forced into the two outside lanes. watching these types of videos really makes me happy that there aren't too many roundabouts in the States. Especially where I'm at. They're just too chaotic. In a game where the cars are good at picking up speed rapidly and judging whether they can go or not is one thing, no human interaction. But, take that into consideration and it's much more efficient to have U-turns strategically placed and dedicated turn lanes with a merge point later on for a quick turn around. Of course this requires overpasses to work properly.

For challenges you could do "fix the traffic" with certain constraints such as exclusively using traffic lights, pedestrian management, destroying roads, or some combination of those. "Break the traffic" with constraints like using only mass transit, or deleting roads would be fun too. I would like a really big city with a death wave challenge where you try to kill as many as you can in a relatively short period of time, likely with constraints like using disaster, or traffic. I would like to see a "how much money in 30 minutes?" challenge too where you try to get your income, or cash on hand as high as possible.

My philosophy is simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. That whole spaghetti junction bit with all those complicated bypasses into random places really makes me think that the builder was basically putting sticking plasters on problems which then causes growing problems elsewhere in a vicious circle. They would've been better off bulldozing and making simpler junctions and connections instead - not the "trying to plug holes in a sinking ship with a new finger every time a problem arose" mentality. Eventually, you run out fingers...but the problems keep on coming.

1:50 I've had situations where cars would take massive detours on a roundabout and there the cars can't switch lanes. They're only allowed to go to the 2 outer lanes where they'll be forced to turn away into the detour. The cars can't switch at the midpoint node since that is technically an intersection and doesn't work that way. When you deleted that road you didn't fix a broken node, you fixed an impossible turn. Just a quick tip for all you traffic managers, make sure that people that come into a roundabout are allowed to switch lanes before the next turn, otherwise they'll be forced to turn and create all sorts of messes, just like here.
@BeachLookingGuy
@BeachLookingGuy 3 года назад
with that main roundabout at the beginning of the video, the problem at first was that the lanes force cars to get off the roundabout instead of going around. dont make roundabout lanes force cars to turn, always allow continuous flow every lane. also the roundabout speed is too fast, the cars trying to enter will not enter because incoming cars are going too fast. if you set a roundabout speed to 30-40 it will give inbound cars a chance to squeeze into the roundabout. making the speed of the road entering the roundabout fast like 60 might also help oncoming cars speed into the roundabout

He struggled and struggled to get it working, but as reality got to him, his ideals wore away, and he resortet to dirty fixes which fixed the surface, but not the core of the problem. The node wasn’t broken on the roundabout at the beginning, they were being forced. There was no nodes between the juctions in question exept for where that small tree road came on but that was not set to allow switching lanes within the intersection. The lane connectors when the cars came on and the lack of nodes forced the cars off.

When you added walkways to the oblong about @ 20:29 ... I was a little saddened that you didn't add a few walking paths in the middle, to allow pedestrians to make shortcuts, rather than having to walk around the entire thing. Pedestrians are more limited on range, than bicycles and car, so it helps to make small shortcuts like that.

I find that if you limit speed on a roundabout it helps clear blocked traffic for the cars trying to get on as they find more gaps. I set mine to 80 Kph on the ones without traffic issues and 60 or 50 on the ones that tend to get clogged up.

That Timbohs turbine, just shunted both lanes of traffic to the same roundabout from the warehouses, it was traffic for the sake of traffic going nowhere.

That first roundabout, the Hugo lines were forcing those trucks into the outside 2 lanes and then there was no pick your lane. The exit they were all using both the right and middle lane were for right so they were being forced to the smaller roundabout. I think.

22:40 It would help a lot to split that connection into 2 separate, smoothly angled one-way roads. Quite a bit of the traffic backing up is caused by the sheer amount of cars slowing down for that 90 degree turn.
@Consequator
@Consequator 3 года назад
I had that exact same behaviour from at the start where they go to another roundabout to turn around instead of using the one they are on to turn around. I couldn't figure out why that happened. It has to be some glitch caused by network manager possibly together with the roundabout builder and some manual lane setting. For me they actually took a huge detour.

idk if anyone has ever pointed this out to you but it wasnt a broken node at the beginning of the video. i had 2 lanes turning right and 1 going straight. when removed the node and replaced it it made it 2 lane going straight and 1 right.

Biffa, pedestrian bridge builder also has a "alleyway" mode. It connects the end of a road up like you were doing manually at 13:47, or i could have waited to 14:00 where you cover that...

Do you have a video where you cover the absolute essentials for improving traffic? Things like the TMPE mod basics, public transport best practices, etc.? I've been watching your Fix It series for a while so I understand most of the basics, but wondered if you have a complete guide somewhere.

@PauxloE

My theory for the broken roundabout at the start: There were two lanes going off (to the smaller roundabout), and the incoming lane connectors where the highway joined made it impossible for anyone to get to the inner lane. Not the rebuilding, but the Ctrl-Shift-Click later to set up the one turning lane fixed it. For the last removed roundabout, I would leave at least one lane connection between the two one-directional roads to and from the big roundabout, to save people a trip through the roundabout who just want to go from one to the other.

9:50 If the outermost non-highway road is two way, this would be a giant version of the swindon Magic Roudabout: 8 Roudnabouts, connected by 2-way roads, in a roughly circular formation.

The node joining the first roundabout was forcing them to stick with one lane, which on the second node was forcing them to exit the roundabout, I was watching it like "BIFFA IT'S THERE, RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES". Basically there were 2 "exit the roundabout" lanes instead of standard one

Actually I've made some really effective roundabouts with all traffic entering from the inside and all exiting from the outside. You can chase a ton of traffic through it that way because guys getting off don't get in the way of the guys coming on.

There is no simulation for visiting other people. They only go to work, shops or leisure locations (parks eg.). That is the main reason the metro here is not used a lot. Could change that by making a new line to the industry areas, which you touched upon briefly.
