There will be Encore screenings of Swan Lake in cinemas on 22 May 2022. Find your nearest screening: www.roh.org.uk...
The Royal Ballet’s sumptuous production of Swan Lake returns to the Royal Opera House stage after its 2020 revival was interrupted by the pandemic’s closure of theatres. The reimagining of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s towering masterpiece by Liam Scarlett is testament to the late choreographer’s abiding love of classicism and innate musicality which shine through the production.
With its sublime score by Tchaikovsky and glittering designs by John Macfarlane, an irresistible mix of spectacle, mystery and passion infuses this audience favourite, one of the best-loved works in the 19th-century classical ballet canon.

I really appreciated Lauren explaining the mime that Odette does. I have never really understood it before. Her hands were so lovely while she was speaking.

AGREED! I have seen this ballet, twice, but never really paid attention to the story telling by the dancers. I think I was just spellbound by the grace of it all. The next Swan Lake, I will be more attentive.

I've seen several versions of this over the years but the last time was the Australian Ballet a couple of years ago. If the orchestra wasn't playing, you could've heard a pin drop in the theatre during the finale. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, truly silent and overwhelmed by Tchaikovsky's music and the story. Honestly one of the best and the Odette/Odile role is amazing

Lauren is my favorite dancer in ROH, so it’s so exciting to see her dance as Odette!! She and William seem to have so much chemistry already, I hope we can see more of their partnership in later productions!

I love Swan Lake SO much because I made my debut as Odette/Odile at 14 years old 2 months ago. It was my fourth principal role, but Swan Lake was definitely the hardest and most gruelling ballet. Seeing the journey of Ms Lauren is so inspiring, especially as I can appreciate all the hard work she put in. 💗💗💗

I saw the live screening of this production at South Mill Arts, Bishop's Stortford, last night. I can't find the words to describe the beauty of the performance, the music, the staging and the costumes. I can no longer go to performances in London, so these screenings are brilliant for me and I can't wait for the new season.

It's so amazing that Tchaikovsky's first ballet had been developing in such a success. And I absolutely agree that it's mostly the music, as the plot had been changed a bit in various productions. The music is so emotional and true in blissful love and aching despair. I can't let the idea go that Tchaikovsky had a big impact on the story, as it's so unique for a ballet, even if it offers a kind of "best of" of ballet (with a look at the ballets popular in this time, featuring enchanted princesses and mysterious fairy tale maidens) The Royal ballet's Swan Lake is truly fascinating, and it's nice to hear these thougts on it.

I wish I understood why I start crying almost from the word go with Swan Lake. It may be that it is intensely beautiful in every tiny aspect, and that it reminds me of my dear mum, who adored it, but whatever it is, Swan Lake is a full box of Kleenex job for me, a burly 65 year old builder.

I saw this production live on Friday 13 May 2022 in ROH sitting right next to the camera crew, after a whole week’s study at University of Oxford on scholarship and flew back to Sydney the following day. Met both Olga and Lauren afterwards. If Odette and Odile is the pinnacle of a ballerina’s career then that day/evening was mine as a ballet enthusiast!

Terrific! I saw it at the Opera House, sitting right in front by the Orchestra and had a great view of both Orchestra and dancers. Gabriel Heine, having been Conductor at the Mariinsky, pulled out all the stops, and produced a wonderful, rich, Russian fervour to the Orchestra. What a great evening, and seeing it live on the screen a few days later, was equally great. The whole cast danced beautifully, and Lauren gave a really stunning performance on her 20th year at the Royal Ballet.

The PRIZE here is the return of the great English Ballerina presence. The unfussy placement of arms, legs, maintaining the square hips and turned out standing leg in arabesque, porcelain sculpture epaulment, honey pouring penchées. Beautiful, the way Beryl Grey, Monica Mason, Antoinette Sibley, Alfreda Thorogood, Darcey Bussell and the greatest Assoluta MARGOT FONTEYN used to do, plus the intangibles of British elegance and style. Here, La CUTHBERTSON carries the torch of the past to the present with an unforgettable experience of Prima Ballerina Assoluta presence. BRAVA!!!

What a great report! Thank u. Fun fact: spectators needed 15!! long years to accept this ballet. The premiere back in the day wasn’t a success, at all…needless to say, that not a single reputable ballet company can be called such without this masterpiece.

The mime concentrates the mind of the dancer to the action of the body. It is acting, and Actors are often advised to study Ballet Dancers, who are themselves supreme actors.

If the royal ballet did the right thing, not only they put on the production of Liam Scarlett but they should have made more gesture in acknowledging their role in the tragic death of this talent. How many died due to such nonsense! RIP Liam, you have been vindicated!

Art is universal. It rises above evil, whether individual or political, and counteracts it. To the Greeks, it was a facet of religion. For myself, and those who dedicate themselves to it, art still is.

Well Hitler was obsessed with Beethoven’s music when Beethoven was a strong believer in freedom and equality. If the Nazis didn’t cancel Beethoven why should we cancel Tchaikovsky
