I love how Caroline Aherne could write funny moments and just flip the script and have nice wholesome or heartbreaking moments. She was a great writer, a great actress and is missed

Caroline Aherne who plays Denise was a much loved woman over here, for this programme and her alter ego Mrs Merton. We were all pretty gutted when she died in 2016

I used to have elderly family members who 'never touched a drop of alcohol' or only' had a sherry at Christmas or in a blue moon', but come a family wedding or party would be there with a glass of something every time you turned around!

The end of this episode really cemented this into one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. It tied all the comic bows throughout the series with dignity and love. Done with feeling. Superb.

It's both a tender moment and a joke at the end when Denise takes one last look at the living room before leaving. The joke being that you'd think she is never going to be back whereas she'll be there every night as usual. Don't worry Josh, Denise and Dave aren't going anywhere! Getting married won't change much 😅

This episode is a perfect example of why I adore this show so much. It’s hilarious but totally real and sweet and kind at the same time. The characters are so beautifully written. Every family is like “the Royle family” we all have a go at each other for farting and picking our noses, we make silly jokes at the expense of the others but beneath all that we have so much love and care for our family. Denise and Jim are often made out to be these lazy slob like and uncaring characters but in many episodes we see that there really is love for their family there and they would do anything for their family if needed.

U never saw Jim smoke but he always had ciggys at the side of him. That’s how it often was in old days parent that never smoked but still had box ciggys and matches with them.

Josh you aren’t far from the truth: there is literally no embellishments in this series. It’s real life, for northern families at least. It’s poignant and beautiful and raw all in the same breath..

Hiya Josh, Me and my family went to Benidorm (its a town in Costa Blanca, Spain, its more like Britain in the sun, its full of people from British Isles), Ricky Tomlinson was on the same flight as us (Ricky has a (trailor) Park Home, just outside Benidorm) you wouldn't meet a nicer feller, if you can watch Ricky's Who Do You Think You Are, its well worth a watch, Ricky is 82 years old, I enjoy watching Only Fools and Horses and Royal family, Josh I like your reactions to the episodes, I've got them all on DVD,I cant wait until the christening, Caroline Ahearn (who played Denise)died of Lung Cancer she was 52 years old, I would love to meet Beverley Macca, we've got 1 like her in our local pub, for obvious reasons I won't say who it is, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England
