Crystasorrow When Van Halen was going by the name Mammoth, Eddie Van Halen would attend a few live gigs by The Runaways and he said he did so because he was truly impressed with Lita Ford's guitar playing.
By the time they came together, each of them already had her own personal musical background, so they didn't actually start from scratch (Lita sounds like Hendrix here).
It is a shame, they should have been much more popular. But because most or all men in the Music industry were bias toward them because they were young and Female. And even male fans did not give them enough credit. People now are realizing they were very good.
I agree it does resemble some Zeppelin music, and that makes it all the cooler. They deserve a great movie to be done about them and I'm confident Dakota and Kristen did it well.
The runaways dont cease to surprise me. Man, these girls really rocked, they kicked ass playing their instruments, they were true performers, and specially taking into account their age, teens, little broads rocking the world out of us.
The Runaways kicked wide open the gates for generations of all-girls rock n roll bands; but the most impressive is how radical they are in fit all the needs: they are the FIRST, the BEST, the BIGGEST, the YOUNGEST and the most TRAGIC. This finished any discussions. Perfect. A band made by God!
this is an amazing band, the reason why I got into rock music I used to write hip hop lyrics now I play lead electric guitar like Joan Jett and Jimmi Hendrix!
JOAN JETT How can you be so attractive? I LOVE YOU THE RUNAWAYS AND JOAN JETT THANKS FOR MAKING ME VERY HAPPY I'LL NEVER FORGET THEM,I NEED THEM TO LIVE !!! JOAN JETT MOTHER OF ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER(L) GETTIN ' HOT
Hey Cherie it's Tom, i want to thank you for all your great contributions to the girls. Long time since i heard this one. Keep on Rockin! Have a good weekend. Best Regards :-)
Released only in Japan and Canada at the time, I cranked the shit out of this on my Craig powerplay deck in my old Nova driving around Vancouver in 77/78....One of Lita's most metallic moments !
Most likely written by L. Ford as this leans more towards a Metal-ish sound than JJ songs. great track- i never heard this one. I bet they have more fans now than in their '76-80 run.(?) everyone says how the music isn't made like this any more, but if you check out whats going on in the underground or local club scenes in your city(if you live in a vibrant music city) you will find their influence. just shut out the mainstream/trendy crap and turn off the tv.ect....
I was clueless how good these girls were back then. I first heard Cherry Bomb. It was great but I took it as comedy, and they were an all girl band so figured The Runaways were an overnight sensation novelty act and never gave it anymore thought. Until Joan n the Blackhearts put out I love R n R and I loved it! But, I still didn’t know that JJ was a founding member of The Runaways until Kristen Stewart played her in the movie which sparked my interest. I finally realized what I could have been enjoying since the start of Joan's career...
damn i whas born a decade late i love rock music to bad i never got the chance to see them in concert those of you who when to see their concert are so damn lucky
Jackie Fox wrote the lyrics to this tune; it was written during rehearsals for the Japan tour. Then Jackie left and they never recorded it in the studio.
me acabo de enterar que Joan Jet y Lita Ford habian tocado juntas en la misma banda, se oia bien, creo que para su tiempo (finales de los 70's) estaban heavys... pero me gusta !!
the movie also didn't mention the different bass players they had. and also the runaways had already written songs and played shows as Joan as the singer
@JoanJetski1 It's Neon Angel, theirs two different versions. The one with the pictures is yellow, the other one is pink. The yellow one has more added on.
Unfortunately, yes...it focuses mainly to Jett and Currie and what happened between them and all the rest of the members stay outside. And they don't even mention the other musicians that joined the group apart from the "main five"(Steele, Foster, Blue,McAllister). It is nice as a movie, but has a lot of mistakes in it as far as the history of the group is concerned.
That's because Joan HATES Jackie. Joan SUED Jackie. And Jett Loses. Because Fox is a LAWYER. We can read about this issue on Jackie's MySpace: /jackiefuchs
