*Othala, *Odal, or Ethel, is the twenty-fourth rune of the Elder Futhark and Futhorc. It's also my favourite rune. Its name means 'Homeland', or perhaps 'Estate' - it's used to refer to a place where a group of people live, and to a place where a person extracts resources. I can't help but see it as having a really homely feeling, like when you've been away from home for a long time and you just long to go back.
