Oh man I’m 26 now, i remember finishing school and running home to play RuneScape, good old days..man

This game taught me English, and sparked my interest in how computers work.

This game just brings me to a time that I know I will never go back to. A time where all you had to worry about was a book report due in 5th grade, or anything else that seems so small now, but was so big then that this game would take you away from it all. I remember waking up at the same time my dad would go to work at around 5:30 a.m just to go on his computer to play this game and I would see my friends on at the same time playing until we had to leave for school. It was all we could talk about. Then RS "died" around the same time everyone who I had played with naturally stopped playing due to other reasons whether it be new friends or new interests. I still log in every now and then but it doesn't matter how big my bank is, how many 99s I have, or how well 07scape recaptures that time, it will never be the same. All I can do is be happy for the great times I've had with this game. And if by very small chance any of my friends see this, I miss you guys.

As an introverted kid.. I grew up on this game. Learned about supply and demand, stock market with the general exchange, Leading clans, organising events, and to never trust a stranger. The ultimate virtual playground with no parental supervision. "You can double your items if you drop them on the ground and press ALT+F4"🤣

I remember in highschool waking up at 4am to fish lobsters in rs2. A decade later started playing osrs again. Runescape will always have a place in my heart

I love the fact that even though this was a documentary by Jagex about their own game, they kept an objectional view of story-telling throughout the documentary instead of making it one big ad. Not enough respect is given to them for this!

Thank you Andrew, Paul and Ian for being a big part of my childhood. And also for making me learn the english language better than the school in Sweden did.

I still have my first account from back in '03. I was 11, didn't have a computer at home, and could only play on the weekends while at my best friend's house. We spent hours just doing whatever we felt like at the time and I'll never forget so many of the experiences we shared. The two of us are almost 30 now and I was the best man in his wedding a few years back.

I felt so bad when I saw andrew saying how he had lost control over the game he had created, I know it was his fault for selling it but still felt pretty sad.

This made me cry man tears. Thank you for making my childhood something absolutely incredible and ultimately inspiring to work hard and be rewarded for consistency. I’m a bodybuilder and i was taught throughout the years that hard work and consistency, will get me far. I did this, but you gave me the tools to use.

Well done. Definitely brought some tears for happy memories. Played 2002-2012.. Quit due to EOC... But ever since finding OSRS.. I always found myself logging back in even with sometimes many months in between for the nostalgia to return. You end up playing for a few weeks til real life gets in the way.. then eventually find my way back again.. You never quit Runescape, You just go AFK. Its apart of all our lives and having grown up playing it through middle school.. highschool.. and even occasionally today the stuff I learned ingame still is used today. Cheers from NY..

I started RS in 2005 although I stopped playing along time ago now it is true i will never forget the memories and friends I made and had through the years ive placed. Thank you Runescape.

Jeez listening to the Gower brothers talk about them leaving is the sadest thing ever. You can hear how disappointed they are with the game and what it has turned into. Great documentary, I'm glad to have gotten some more insight into the history of the game.

This game has changed my life. I have met so many people and have made some of the best memories in runescape. Thank you so much for giving us this experience and all the work you all put into it. Started in 07 and still play today.

Me, 2002, 11 years old. Going round my friend Simons' house. I had no PC at home, he did... I remember loading up that classic screen for the first time round his. It was amazing. My friends gave me an account of their friend called "Shalob" who had stopped playing. It was literally 2 weeks later my mom got a PC and a dial-up just for me to play some games. Haven't been outside since then.

Runescape is where I learnt English.

I wish I discovered RuneScape earlier. I hope it never dies. If I could ever live in a game, I'll pick Runescape over anything.

You guys have to admit RS is one of a kind. There's no other game that makes me feel good about leveling up, and care so much about my items. Party hats, Santa hats, end-game gear, etc are forever the greatest most iconic items of all time. No item in any other game holds that same emotional value behind the items.

This game has been the biggest part of my childhood free time, countless hours spent loafing around doing the quests and doing PvP I still play and wouldn't know how to live if I can't play this.. means the world to me to see this community still active after so many exciting years. Thanks to everyone involved for keeping the dream going!

this the oneand ONLY game i have returned back to many times over after playing other games for a long time. and this is one old game i always return to....Theres a certain nostalgia to this game that never changes like many other games that have. you've kept to your roots you truly did!

Love this. My account is turning 18 years old this year. My brother got me into it and made matching accounts. I unknowingly met my husband when we were both 13/14 years old... did not meet till we were in high school and now married with our son and been together going on 13 years and going strong. Runescape will always be apart of my life both online and in real life.

My favorite childhood memories were on Saturday’s, I would sneak on the family computer at the break of dawn just to play Runescape. The feeling was magical, unlike any game. I still play till this day.

Oh man I just love their parents and how supportive they are! Good for them! I'm glad they were able to pursue their dreams.

I genuinely thought I was an exception to the phrase “you never quit RuneScape, you just take long breaks,” after being a pretty avid WoW raider for well over a decade. For whatever reason at the age of 28 I found myself back in the game grinding it out after a 13 year hiatus. I guess it scratches a specific itch that I haven’t felt in a very long time. My girlfriend and I have been having a blast playing, and I’m blown away by how fast and efficient I am now on OSRS as a grown man compared to my 14 year old self. My old character would be proud. Rest In Peace Minuteman420!

Honestly this flooded my memory with so much nostalgia and melancholy. I remember watching my brother and his friends playing RS in about 2004, and as soon as I could got my hands on it, tho being so young at the time I wasn't really any good at it. Tho when I was about 8, I really got into it in 2006 and started playing non-stop. I remember my parents yelling at me in the summer of 06 because I would literally get up at 6:00 in the morning, go downstairs onto our old shitty PC, and play RS until 8:30 in the evening every day of the summer. The thing was back then, I didn't even do a lot. I didn't play it like I do now. Back then I would wander around Gielinor and just feel like an explorer. I would carry around useless novelty cool looking items and armour and admire the scenery, I would dream of hitting high levels and getting amazing amounts of gold and items. I would talk constantly to random people and make tons and tons of friends. I remember every year being so excited for the holiday events, literally shaking with excitement to how I would get to talk to Death again, or maybe get to collect rare holiday items. But, nowadays I just grind on RS. Every time I go back to it, I just go around and grind my skills up, then put it down for some months. What a shame, I miss the old days :(

While interesting I think there should have been a small segment about the man behind most of Runescape's older music: Ian Taylor. The music was such a big part of the Classic-2 conversion and really struck a chord with most of the playerbase.

I love how involved the parents of the Runescape founders were during their childhood. It really goes to show how parents can really mold and influence their children into something potentially great and potentially something as amazing as this.

Ive watched this probably 5x over the years. I started runescape in 2003 - 2004. My favorite times were around 2009 - 2012. I mean I enjoyed all the years between that but that was when ALL my friends played. 10+ irl friends on.. 25+ other close friends from around the world but once they released EoC..Some of them till this day ive never seen log back on once they tried EoC. I quit for along time. I had to beg one of my closest IRL friends to continue to play with me. He agreed, its been him & I ever sense. We have made alot more close friends since then and alot of amazing times since I started but them specific dates will always have so much meaning to me. Ill never stop playing runescape. I maxed on Rs3 and I plan to max on osrs. Thank you Jagex/The Gower brothers for creating something that would mean so much to me. I look forward to seeing you all for another 20+ years!! Runescape is the only game I have ever played where I've had an actual personal connection. There was something about it which made me clock hundreds of hours into it. For me, it'll forever be my favourite game of all time!

Been playing runescape for 15 years now and its something I always end up going back to regardless of how long i stop playing for. I remember when I was in primary school I'd bring my runescape guide book magazine to read in class and the teacher would take it away until the end of the school day because I was glued to it lol

I still want to reiterate the best thing you’ve done for your company was finding the 07 version of RuneScape. It gave your customers the best of both worlds where as RS3 has your more conventional wow/EQ type MMO and OSRS is a more advanced MUD point and click MMO that has since become quite sophisticated as time has went on.

This documentary really hit me, I don't think I'd be where I am today without RuneScape. I started in '05 and played for many years, eventually getting into private server development and creating my own worlds within the realm of Gielinor. RuneScape taught me how to program which eventually led to what I do professionally. Thank you Andrew, Paul, Ian and all.

When my friends first told me about runescape, i tried searching for ruinscape and couldn't find it lol

I sort of think of Runescape and Magic the Gathering in the same realm in terms of how players can never really walk away from the games. Even after all these years I love coming back to Runescape from time to time. Hardcore group ironman is def one of the coolest additions in a longtime.

Truly Beautiful Documentary

What a game. It had a massive impact on my life. Started out as a fun, adventurous game. It was harmless for a few years. Once I started to get good at pking was when it was less of a game and more of a drug. As I got better at pking, I got more addicted. I spent my 6th grade summer playing 8 hours a day. After pking, I got into gambling which was the peak of my experience playing the game. At that point I was playing it hours on end, thinking about it when I wasn't playing, and even dreaming about it. I cannot lie, it was so fucking fun at that point, gliding through the game. I finally remember looking at the urban dictionary one night and seeing the reviews of Runescape. It was filled with individuals warning about how addicting it was. It woke me up and I quit that week, as EOC was coming anyway. Although it impacted my actual life pretty negatively, it was still the best game I've ever played.

This is amazing. What a wonderful world we've all been a part of. And that fishing story at 30:47... So damn beautiful.

Never quitting Runescape and only ever being afk is completely true for me. I've never thought about quitting but I have gone a few months without playing due to general life getting in the way. I've always come back and even now, 26 years old with 2 small kids and a generally hectic life, it's such a huge part of my life and will be until the day Runescape is no more. My oldest son is 3 and I so hope that Runescape will be thriving when he's old enough to play, and his younger brother too. Thanks so much Jagex ❤

Absolute phenomenal documentary... Thank you Jagex and all the players for the greatest times in my younger years, a world to explore rich in fantasy and danger! Definitely one of the greatest MMORPG ever made. I will never forget the times i had with friends in this game... And the music always hits me hard and almost makes me feel i'm stepping back in time, this ache i had when i was a child! And i never knew that was possible to bring back those very same emotions...
