Here is a very interesting device that's used to control the RUNNING LIGHT game here in The Philippines. It can be found at the Christmas Perya (Carnival).

Wow, I don't know if it's just me being naturally cynnical, but I expected there to be some kind of logic behind this system that would allow the operator to choose which number the light landed on. I'm impressed by the ingenuity of the people while also being terrified that one of the children might reach out and touch it.

I'm not sure, but I suppose you could tilt the whole unit, but you'd have to tilt it in the right way depending on the current bets as each spin/bets would be different. Then you'd be seen doing so. On the other hand, the owners are making a profit probably on ever spin so I don't really think it's neccessary :) Different culture here, I believe the lady that spins it is guarding it, but if someone WAS able to touch it then it's not like the UK where it's immediately a court case, here it's like "well what did you expect, just don't touch it again and you won't get another shock".

What stood out to me was that all games shown have real chances to win based on actual luck. No computer to skew the odds in favour of the "bank". Just plain fun games.

Honestly, I'd be a lot more worried about the dog messing with it. This is also why children shouldn't be pampered and sheltered from anything that could possibly be slightly dangerous.

Chances are this capability *does* exist in the running light game, but you can't see any logic circuitry or device that enables it. It would be very clear to see though if you got on the game operators bad side, and suddenly *all* of your bets started losing... 😉 Many casinos did the same thing on their Roulette tables in the early 20th century. It's all a matter of operator skill and experience. 😇

Nothing but safety here! Yeah RIGHT! At least there is no way to skew the results... just the luck of where the moving contact stops. Of course after running it for a while, you can sort of tell where it is going to stop just by feel. Interesting!

Yes, and only incandescent lamps can be used, as CFL and LED lamps will not last long with the rough supply and intermittent operation, unless you rewired to use 12V LED lamps alone, as those just have a resistor in them, and can flash all the time with no problem. Also the obligatory guard and theft warning dog on top, there to distract the thieves who might want to take all those coins.

Good point about the new generation of lamps. I think the dog is just a member of the family, a lot of families have one or two here. At night the dogs protect the family and bark at anything that moves. Try going for a run at 5am before the sun comes up, and you have to walk past every dog that you see, else they all start barking! :D

I love that fact that this is *visibly fair* like a roulette wheel and unlike an arduino or PLC or arcade game where the duty cycle of some positions may be altered with larger or smaller contacts.

That’s pretty cool! I too would’ve expected it to be some PLC that just randomly selects a number and lands on it. And there’s also the case of not rigging the game, which is surprising. But I guess because of the sort of prizes on offer, they still make profit regardless of what happens. I wonder if that spinning selector was ‘home made’ by the stand owners, or if they bought it off someone else who makes this kind of thing themselves. Either way, it’s definitely not from an official manufacturer lol! Good video, and happy new year!

It's usual isn't it! Back in the UK, it'd probably be an Aduino board, but at least you can see the mechanism which means it's classed as fair play, rather than an Aduino that can be programmed with it's outcome. Hope you had a great Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Matt and Chay

@@mrmattandmrchay Indeed! If it was like that, who knows it would be called cheating instead! This way, it's clearly not cheating! I just wonder if this is stable enough to run LED. I know for sure other options are definitely not available but I think bright LED at about 70% brightness capacity can be run this way. However, you would lose the brightning and darkning effect you get with these heat-based lights. Regardless of that, I love mechanical stuff! I think in anywhere in EU and most close countries this would be completely forbidden due to whatever laws they come up with that tells this is too dangerous! I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year too! 😀

I note how the contacts are sloped to give the wire less chance to be shorted between two of them. Reminds me of my teenage band's first light show... an old turntable with wires strung across it... you could choose 16, 33, 45, or 78rpm... this had an extremely sketchy contact system that would definitely shock you if you reached inside. It blinked colored floodlamps that were stolen from local restaurants... they finally got wise and only bought clear replacements! I'm ready for some more siren content... perhaps there's a club where restorers of old gasoline air raid sirens gather? I'd dearly love to have an old Chrysler Hemi air-raid siren, I've even mapped (on Google Earth) spots where these were installed (you can still see the oil patches). Anyway, love your content, carry on.

I have some trouble believing this game has greater risk of operator harm compared to an Otis „Dinner plate“ selector... 😳 ...But then again; I'd probably rate a *Chainsaw* as having a lower risk of operator harm compared to an Otis „Dinner plate“ selector! ⚙🩸🤣 Cheers for the awesome video...And it's always great to see how stuff like this works! 😊

Hello, Do you think it could be legal to set a game like this in the UK (Or other western-world country really) if a voltage of up to 24V were to be used instead of the full mains or still not ? I'm only asking from a health and safety standpoint, not about the gambling law aspect of it.

What I don't get about floor selectors: If all they do is copy the position of the lift car (and I'm taking this asumption from their name in my native German, which is "Kopierwerk" or "copy works"), why can't they simply put the contacts on the actual lift car or on the shaft and thus safe the effort of making a complex floor selector in the first place? I'm sure there is a good reason for that, so I must be missing something.

Good question and the answer is accessibility and maintenance. If one of the shaft switches were to go faulty then you'd have to stand on top of the lift and use the lift car to drive up and dn in slow inspection speed to repair it. With the selector in the motor room, everything is in one place. Easy to fault find and maintain like this.

at least that way you can see for yourself that the lady /whole game /stall is not a cheat or fake ? it's simply there right in front of your eye's nothing to cheat cheat you it's your own luck
