WHAT IS THE MRMATTANDMRCHAY CHANNEL? Ever wondered how old elevators work? Interested in old air-raid sirens?
"Old lifts" sounds like a boring subject, but they are actually fascinating! Some systems resemble an old telephone exchange, but in my opinion MORE INTERESTING! I explain how they work.
I care PASSIONATELY about what I upload - I spend considerable time editing my videos to create QUALITY, INTERESTING videos. ...if "I" don't find it interesting, I don't upload it!
I've been on youtube since 2008, over 45k subs and 20 Million video views - not a massive channel, but a respectable one!
IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT SAFETY: My channel DOES NOT promote or glamourise dangerous activities such as LIFT SURFING (someone will die one day and it won't be down to MY channel) 'KIDS' SURFING LIFTS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G49HsVD0gcw.html
I know I'm a bit late, but, are the sirens for the Broadmoor and State Hospital still running? It'd be a shame if they were taken down or replaced with electronic ones.
Hiya Morgan. I don't usually give out locations for lots of reasons. However, just for you, if you email me on mattw.youtube@virginmedia.com then I'll explain. :)
To make them produce high-low, it's relately easy - just need some kind of timer to syncronise the shutters on the left and right to switch every second or so. But as the carstairs system uses different sirens incapable of the 'high-low' tone, these CS8 sirens have been wired so that both tones sound together.
Pretty sad to see such a nice architecture being useless. Looks like it was (at the time of this video) still somewhat maintained, no broken glasses, some emergency lights still work... Today with EVs requiring more time to spend on the road to recharge than a gas car requires to refill, this kind of place could totally have some use. Too bad the view was uninteresting,... except for truck enthusiasts. Nice camera work by the way, very artistic, and the map was a necessity. Small but confusing floor plan.
In Wellington New Zealand we had two pairs of these operating at the Bay Plaza Hotel and Central Park flats, they were only modernized in the 90’s Beautiful stuff to work on, calls were latched by magnetic car buttons that only released when the lift changed direction after serving all floors. The central telephone exchange had a pair of gearless very similar but had two generators on the one motor to poser the machine, acceleration was done via a motorised resistor
This Ots equipment was/is known as 'standard Housing' as it was installed in many blocks of flats, sometimes as a 'Skip Floor' installation each lift serving alternate floors one for odd floors and one for evens floors. Much of the equipment it was prefabricated aluminium alloy entrance and arrived on site pre assembled frames very basic.
I completely understand. There was also another similar place in Sheffield called Hallam towers hotel - same. Long term derelict and became very popular with explorers. Unfortunately (like fiveways), its the people that want to go in to smash the place up and purposely seek the police attention (i.e. get a kick out of evading police) that give other explorers a bad repretation.
Left-handed highway exits in North America are rare, but they do exist. There’s one a few miles from my house, which my brother takes when he goes to university.
Hi mrmattandmrchay id like to say thank you for the lift and siren key ring and the sticker you sent to me. I remember learning from one of your videos and my mum was quite happy that i learnt something And thats when you sent the key rings and stickers. I like revisiting this chanel because i still have an intrest in lifts even though i started trainspotting in 2021. So keep up the great videos👍👍👍
Fun fact - those round silver components that look like components are actually shift registers - they each store 512 bits of information, like a tiny RAM chip, each 0.5 Kilobits in capacity. You would need 16 of these transistor-looking components to make up 1 Kilobyte of RAM. Damn strange each module only contains 15 of these 512-bit shift registers, I guess the word length in the logic must have been seven bits? Who knows, but each yellow or blue plug in module is just shy of 1Kbyte RAM.
What I also find strange about UK companies is instead of independent service they have car preference which is I think the same thing but Im not sure because Im not from there
Another fantastic video with superb editing and explanation. I will subscribe to the United Lift Channel. Keep up the great video's. The Selenium rectifier had expired, and a pretty rough floating set up 35 Amp bridge rectifier is just dangling loose.
