He is the first dog I think I've ever seen stop shaking the water off because he's told. The way he stopped and then didn't shake for the rest of the bath either, that's such a smart and obedient dog. Maybe he did shake and you cut that part out so ehat im saying doesnt quite count as much 😆. I did not notice a jump cut, though, so I will keep believing he's the best good boy.
It says more of the groomer than just a good dog that he stopped shaking . There is also a touch on the hips that will stop many dogs. People don't "get" how to control their pet that's why groomers can do "amazing" things. LoL And--she IS amazing!
The two dogs i have had the luck of caring for both have listened if i tell them not to shake mid-shampoo in my bathroom. But yes, this dog in the video is a good listener and/or she is a good groomer in terms of communication.
When you said “Your owners aren’t going to recognize you.” I had a wired hair fox terrier, and picking him up after his first groom, I told the staff they had given me the wrong dog. That’s how different he looked!
The same thing happened with my daughter's schnau-tzu puppy after her first cut! 😂 She went from almost black to a light tan, because her fur was colored much like this dog's is. Now that she's older, her fur is more of a uniform mixture of the two colors nomatter the length.
That moment when his head was wet and he was looking to the side like he was accepting that this was his life now so adorable! I love the longer videos on your second channel! Wish we could have seen the owners reaction.
He's a doubly magical dog, he can shapeshift _and_ change colour. I'm sure he can make things magically disappear too, especially edible ones. He looks four or five years younger after the grooming, even though he's only three - like a gigantic puppy. I've never seen a Bernese/Poodle (Bernoodle?) mix before. He seems to be quite intelligent and understands that what you do doesn't hurt him, so he'll probably get less and less nervous about getting groomed as time goes on. He was very brave.
They're called bernedoodles but I've been saying for ages that bernoodle is better! My sister has one and she's the most expressive and absurdly affectionate velcro dog I've ever met.
@@katietheox23 I vote YES on Bernoodle! I suppose people went with Bernedoodle because of Labradoodles, but the Labradoodle is only a doodle because of the "d" in Labrador! It doesn't make any sense for other Poodle crossbreeds to be doodles, unless the breed the Poodle is crossed with also has a "d" in there.
@@Thomas-zt7dm I think a St Bernard/Poodle mix should be a Bernedoodle or St Bernedoodle. The d makes sense there because again, there's a d in St Bernard. This is a pretty funny discussion to have. 😀
Lol he’s like oh my gosh what fresh hell is this? ❤️🖤❤️🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 I could sit at your shop and watch you do this all day long. Watching your channel is so cathartic.
Even though he was nervous he was so well behaved. He looked so much better and I’m sure he felt better too. We had two mini poodles and they loved to prance around after their grooms. They felt so good afterwards. ❤️❤️❤️
@@Gala-yp8nx my brother’s standard poodle always gets shy after big grooms, seems like she feels exposed! She has gorgeous golden curls and looks so skinny without her voluminous coils! She has never gotten a traditional fancy poodle groom, though. Maybe if she got a fancy groom that left a bit remaining she would prance with pride!
My girlfriend would take my rough collie to the groomers. When he came back in he would strut around and show off while I told him how great he looked. 'Yeah, yeah, I know...'
I have a Golden Retriever. For a long time, he enjoyed the dog parks. There were so many Doodle mixes! One of the people I got talking to was a groomer. The groomers in my neighborhood of New York City got together and decided how they would price the different types of grooming sessions for these Doodle mixes. Some of the dogs were never brushed except by the groomer, so hours had to be spent brushing the dog. One of the dogs the groomer that I spoke to had had BOTH types of guard hairs - one that kept growing and one that didn't. The owners never bushed the dog and took the dog to the groomer only 2 or 3 times a year. The poor dog needed hours of brushing. She finally had to tell the owner that it wasn't fair to the dog and that they should bring him in for a brushing every few weeks. I had never considered how long takes to brush out these dogs!
Honestly it’s not that bad, it’s the same amount of time I spend brushing my Australian shepherd out just spread out every other day. 20-30 mins every other day keeps the mats away lol.
I have standard poodles and had a golden ❤❤❤I am not a doodle fan . Ppl don’t take care of them they shed a lot of the time and cost more than a purebred!
@@Abbybabby29 ya I often find it’s cause breeders push them as an entry level dog when they are actually quite high maintenance. Love my girl but she is a lot of work
@@Thomas-zt7dm I think doodles are big lovable clowns! I love them and their personalities but as you said, they don’t explain how much maintenance they are or would it cost to maintain them it’s a lot and takes a lot of grooming, brushing and money. I think there are a lot of breeders in a lot of different dogs that don’t educate people because they just wanna make the money. My daughter in law to be got a husky at 18 years old and lived in an apartment who sells an 18-year-old in an apartment a Husky? Working full-time nowhere for that dog to run. Unbelievable. I am sure your dog is awesome
@@Abbybabby29 oh my lord ya, I’m sure she did her best but ya I agree. That situation really isn’t the best for a husky and the breeder 100% is to blame for not telling her that. Thank you, she is quite the love, we’re currently working on getting her certified as a therapy dog to volunteer her time at children’s hospitals. She’s very gentle and loves interacting with kids for some reason haha.
I don't even have a dog, and don't plan to groom my cats, but your videos are extremely satisfying and professional, as well as the way you treat animals
1.) I Love these longer formats...2.) This is the most evenly mixed dog I've ever seen, right down to the type of hair he has...I'd like to see him at 3-4 years old and full grown...That was a real nice and much needed cut but will his double coat grow back the way it should?? Beautiful 🐶...
“The way it should” only really applies to breed standards which usually requires hand stripping. Their fur, contrary to what many believe, aside from thickness maybe, doesn’t change growth pattern but more in texture. Having shorter hair allows the undercoat to be loosened more easily which keeps the dog more comfortable when they are not being used for their purpose. I had a golden, shepherd, sheltie mix, and yes she had beautiful fur, who we had to shave down every summer, even with regular brushing and grooming, because she was just too hot down south. She would become less active and pant constantly. No amount of brushing could curb the dust bunnies. Almost 7 years after her passing, and I still find her fur. We took her to a self groom and had a full on furnado, and she was still panting. As with all things, it’s more about quality of life and time and money management.
We had a Shetland Sheepdog, with an insanely long & thick double coat. He had to be shaved one summer for a medical reason, asked them to take off the rest of his coat, rather than leave him patchy. He was so happy for the next few weeks, acting like a little rough-neck terrier rather than a prissy pretty-boy. We were surprised that his coat came back as thick & gorgeous as before. He just had a summer of enjoying a buzz-cut.
Hi! Considering all the fur-storms your shop has endured, can you please show us how you organize, tidy up, and clean your shop after each client or at the end of each day? Thanks! Bless your shop!
@@LuvlyMyaAnthem I have to look for that!! Thanks for the info!! We had the sweetest Pom ever, but just brushing her, was unbelievable!! And exhausting!
The animals only need to be patient for a few hours, but the groomer has to keep her patience for her entire career!! Amazing channel thanks for sharing all your expert knowledge on how to maintain a well-kept pet!!
He is beautiful, Vanessa! When you were drying him, his fur looked like a human lady whose dark hair color was growing out! Gorgeous! That was a great video!! ❤
Smart as a poodle, chill as a Bernese, and perfectly calm while the happy hoodie practically covered his eyes. Really arresting colouring and coat. I like both types of videos and am happily watching both your channels. 🇨🇦💕
Hey, Vanessa, your longer videos are amazing. I would love to see again Mayonnaise the cat, and Kazoo, the trash goblin. I'm also eager to see - and hear - Freddo the husky, sing again the song of his people.
I don't think I've ever seen a dog that looks quite like this before. What a unique and crazy coat. I love it! A very good boy for sure. Great job on the groom! Love these longer videos.
From perambulating dust mop (size humongous) to lion! Look at all that solid bone on him. He sure got the Bernese in that. I like his looks much better after the clip. A massive job, and you did it so well.
Outer coat reminded me of hair from the first Irish Wolfhound I had when living in Saskatchewan. Thankfully weekly brushing and grooming every few months helped alot due to massive body size. Was very fortunate to have terrific groomers in Prince Albert before moving back to Ontario. Truly best dogs I have ever been owned by and hope the heck the breed is never mixed with a poodle.
I hope this isn't a stupid question to ask but due to my lack of knowledge of the breed you had owned previously ummm out of curiosity what is it about the breed that has you hoping to never mix specifically with a poodle???
not a dog owner but the comment was about grooming - maybe it had to do with the dog’s coat / fur being difficult to groom if the breeds were mixed 🤷♀️
Most people that like a breed hate how people mix them with poodles because then they destroy the perfect and beautiful breed when they make a mix of dogs that have completely different coats, personality, jobs, and what medical issues to look out for. I have seen the damage it has done to kind golden retrievers turning them into necrotic messes with major allergies. I used to own a multipoo and she got diabetes and other issues because of being from a backyard breeders which all doodles are. My Samoyed from a registered breeder has a completely different temperament then her backyard bred version. I work with other pure bred dogs then a doodle of the two breeds and I'm so sad what has happened to these beautiful breeds especially the poodles. The larger the doodle the more problems seem to come up with there hips and joints, allergies, skin issues and temperament. I have seen more aggression from doodles Goldendoodle in particular then any other breed I work with and I work with staffys, mastiffs, German shepherds, and doberman, extra. People get told by the breeder they are easy to train and laid back dogs but poodles are a water retriever and so is a golden, labs are gun dogs, Australian Shepherd herding and Bernese were all around farm dogs. They need lots of mental stimulation and training which most people don't do at least for the ones I have worked with. 😢
This longer form channel is very helpful for us. We have a cocker mix who was disabled when we adopted him due to being hit by a car. We took him to the groomers 2-3 times a year, but he's developed seizures when he's excited. Sadly, he loves going to the groomer and can't go anymore as a result. Your channel has been very helpful for learning how to take care of him ourselves at home.
Awww, poor boy. Bless you for taking care of him though, that's so lovely. A lot of people wouldn't do that. Huge respect for giving him the best quality of life possible.
I never realised you do your voiceovers "live on site". I kind of assumed at least the explanations of your choices and other scenarios would be done after the fact. Kudos to you for being this calm and focused while doing your job.
Great job, as always! I love your no-nonsense approach. No coddling, just businesslike. Your love of the dogs you treat is clear. I'm learning that talking all the time is not comforting for animals. Thank you.
I have 1 Bouvier De Flandres & 2 Saint Berdoodles and I like their hair somewhat long. That “anti-matting” blow drying tip is going to go a long way in this house. Thank you 🙏🏾
I love that you made a channel for longer content!! I was always so sad when the videos ended. It's also so nice of you to give grooming tips/tricks! I do some basic maintenance on my golden doodle in between grooms and can't even imagine trying to groom all of her -- it really is an art form! Great work and amazing content! 🐕✨
The look on his face just before you started towel drying him was so precious. I loved the way he looked before the grooming but can understand the owners not wanting to deal with the hair.
I always like how you explain your process of grooming on each dog and the reason why they need to be groomed and how their breed should be groomed...🐕🐩🎃
That face. And when you put the hoodie on,I melt. If I had it do do over again, I think I would have chosen Dog grooming. I love the way you handle and love the animals. Hello on a beautiful day in New Jersey, the Garden State.💕🙋🏼
I like the fact that you look after yourself as well as the dogs, by wearing earmuffs when you dry them. The noise from the dryers can be quite loud. So well done you!
I honestly never thought getting a bath and a haircut made animals so anxious till I saw your videos, it’s so necessary for their well-being and overall health but so many are panting and stressed out when you’re trying so hard (and doing such a fantastic job) I’m like - I love going to the hairdresser and getting a good scrub -What’s up?
You put so much effort into each groom and are so kind and gentle. You also do really great RU-vid clips. Thank you for being an ambassador for all the needy pets, a conscientious groomer, and a great RU-vidr.
He’s a very good boy. He seems pretty calm to me. My lab just wants to play with both the water and the dryer. I think you taped this just to prove to his owners that they really were getting their dog back.
Loving the new channel! You do such a great job building bridges between clients and groomers, explaining actions and decisions in a way that can teach professionals in the industry while not losing pet owners in the explanation!
Super cute and handsome boy, and so well-behaved! I honestly liked his look with the shaggy fur but I wouldn't want to deal with all that either. This good boy deserves some treats.
You have such a soothing voice...no wonder most of your customers are relaxed ( not all)... I could listen to your for hours, and some of your comments are soo funny...you do a beautiful job too!!!
You did an awesome job with this dog. You're compassion for your animals (aka clients) shows. You were continually trying to reassure him and comfort him. Thank you for having such a big ❤ for animals.
Would love to see some owner reactions to transformations this dramatic, although some people wouldn’t agree to be on camera I suppose. Love the videos!
Enjoyed the groom and your explanations about the unusual coat combination. I agree with another person that it would be nice to see his progression of this dog over the next months/years. Perhaps you can keep a file about him filling out, changes.
That’s a fantastic dog!!! As anxious as he was to be as good as he was. Then again, not only says a lot about the dog, it says a lot about you as well.
That was interesting! I couldn't imagine how he would look. I love that his tail has longer hair and is more black than the hair on his body. One of a kind and excellent work!🐶
He looks so much more comfortable. He really did well through out the grooming. He deserves a big treat and hug! 🐾🤗 I really enjoyed the video. Thank you Vanessa! 🦋
I love the vids here as you have more time to explain the dogs behaviour too. Like the fact that he was panting so much. Dogs also yawn a lot when they are nervous. It's not always because they're tired.
OH my goodness, Fredrick is so beautiful and you did an amazing grooming on him. Yes he is nervous but hopefully in time he will get use to it. I love your patience with the fur babies and you can tell that you really love your job. It's so fun to watch you work. Can't wait for the next videos.
Love the long form content. It really shows how much physical exertion goes into grooming. Lots of standing, bending, brushing, all while positioning the dog. On top of that, also getting good camera angles. You really don't see the shear amount of work involved in the
I’m sad that such a unique coat probably won’t grow back in the same but.. you’re right! What a confusing decision to be faced with. I would’ve maybe tried doing some scissor work first just to shorten the guard hairs to look more in line with the legs but not shear them off completely. But I’m sure the owners are happy with his cut and you did such a professional job of it too!
@@kelqueen9998 😂 yes the price would definitely increase with all that work! And then there would be the question of would all that work be worth it in the end? Which I don’t know the answer to really. I’m just throwing ideas out there.
After having had a Border Collie shaved down twice because of a significant surgery... it will grow back, but it will take about two years to blend in again.
I’m not entirely sure that is true, unless damage is done to follicle itself or skin. It may change the texture, because of the support of underlying hair or density until it grows to match the rest of the hair length but in the end, it’s not about how he looks, it’s about his quality of life and ease of care.
