The Russian Farmer. Life under Sanctions 

My heart goes out to all farmers. Such hard working people deserve all our respect. 🥰

My brother in law was a very popular farmer in Georgia, USA, from the 1970's to around 2000. He grew thousands of acres of peanuts and potatoes and corn. His potatoes were used to make Lays potato chips and his peanuts were made into peanut butter. He worked on his own equipment and other farmers' equipment too. RiP Jay Kinnas.

My heart breaks for the farmers. Without them this world could not survive. I have so many thoughts going through my head that I probably should not put into words but these farmers have my admiration and gratitude. As do the farmers in all countries.

Wonderful video, Dan. My family were farmers in United States - North Carolina and Georgia, for over 300 years. My family's farm was lost to government policies in 1970s after my father died when I was young. My great grandfather's farm lost to the State of Georgia in 2018. The tool for losening the soil at 8:30 is called a HARROW. Blessings to you and your family. May God save us all from the men in suits who have never farmed and have no compassion for common people. They grow only misery as a crop. Farmers grow abundance for humans and animals, too.

This was a fascinating video Dan. My son works on a big dairy farm and drives machinery like that, I think his jobs are mostly harvesting crops, repairing things around the farm and feeding the cows. He said this year they had very good crops of corn and soybeans. It is sad what is happening to farmers all over the world. The prices in our stores for flour have now doubled since the spring time. We had a pretty good harvest for wheat in Canada, but the ships come and still take it away and we pay more in the stores. Sunflower oil is precious, Many stores where I live don't have any, so when I see some at a good price I buy another bottle because it is my favourite for cooking with. As I understand it, most of our sunflowers come from Russia. My husband buys seeds to feed the wild birds and they cost $50. for 23 kilos, about 2,270. Rubles. I grew up on a farm in central Canada. The machines my father used looked very similar. Even back then farmers were not paid enough. To provide for the family he also had a small sawmill and beef cattle. Humanity can be amazing if care about each other. Thanks for another great video. 😁

Dan, I gotta say, you make great tractor motor noise!! I grew up on a farm and the tractor was the first thing I learned to drive. I loved this video showing all those wonderful sunflower seeds and the harvesting!! It is hard here as well on the farmers, well everyone really, with everything going up so high. It's terrible. I feel bad for the farmers there as well as here. I wondered where all the birds were because they love sunflower seeds? The cows were so pretty! Tell that farmer that he might be shy, but I appreciate the work he does and loved seeing this. Hopefully the leaders of our countries, (all countries really) would quit the power and money gain, and just be true good honest people out to make the whole world better for all of us, and not think of themselves. Dan, i'm truly sorry for the farmer's situation, just like here in the US farmers are put in a bad situation because of the actions of the government also. i only hope the best for you and your family, and the regular Russian people.

My Grandfather was a Farmer in Minnesota in the USA for land O Lakes. It is One of the best dairy products in the United States. He was voted One of the best farmers in the area. My grandfather was one of the hardest workers I have ever known. I have a picture of me and him on One of his tractors. He was teaching me how to drive a tractor. It is an amazing memory to have of my grandfather. One of the best farmers ever.

We owned exactly the same tractor in my USSR childhood, build in 1987 as well! I was born in 1987, that is why I remember the year so well. My father showed me how to drive it and how it was built. He studied to be engineer to develop such machinery. Now this tractor also stands in the courtyard, completely forgotten. Great video and happy harvesting!

This is one of my favorite videos that you have made. My uncle was a farmer in the US. In Iowa. He raised corn and soybeans and pigs. He had about 45 sows and 3 boars. When the grain price was low the pigs were high. When they worked the fields my cousin would let my brother and I ride on the tractor with him. We would sit on the metal fenders. Those are good memories.

We grow a lot of sunflowers in the Sacramento, CA (Central Valley of CA). I think our big tractors have a/c, as well as good sound systems for radio/music etc. Farmers are at the mercy of government and weather both loss on crops is such a tragedy after working so hard to produce them.

It's heartbreaking that millions upon millions of people are suffering because of the warped ambitions of one man. God Bless these farmers, mankind owes them so much more than they are receiving. Thank you for this video, Dan.

Dan, Pioneer seed is very popular in my part of the state in Ohio and I find it incredible that its made its way over to you! Some of the fields right next to my home are sunflowers and look just like the strain of seed these sunflowers were! WoW a farmer! Only my second video. Dad has been growing coffee in Puerto Rico since my grandfather’s father did. On my mother’s side her family grows rice. Dry summer is good for soy and even wheat, but not rice. Feed, fertilizer, insecticide, diesel; everything has gone up. After this last storm, Fiona, dad lost all he replanted from the storms Irma and Maria. He said he is done, 88, to “old to see beans again”. You are a humble soul, like all farmers around the world! I've been enjoying your videos for a couple of years now. I was with you when Sati was born and you've shown me that the Russian people are just like the rest of the world.

Great video. Some of my family were rich farmers. My dad picked cotton, etc. Their wealth came from land, oil, etc. I remember driving some tractors that pulled irrigation pipes. I made a lot of stops and the men took the irrigation pipes off the trailers and connected them. We all had to work as soon as we could do something despite not being poor. There were so many crops they raised including peanuts and watermelons. They would cut a certain amount of trees down each year to sell wood. Modern times have changed the richer life I lived growing up. I know how to do a lot of that work but I don't grow anything myself. The family wealth allowed other family members to go into fields of medicine, law, politics, and more.

Watching this takes me way back, Dan. (I am 60 now.) I climbed all over farm equipment as a kid, worked with tobacco and in the veggie garden. At that time I think farmers repaired their own machines, and cars. I appreciate the farmer sharing his time and story! Do farmers there save seeds for next year, or buy new each time? All the best - you have a poet's soul, as seen by the little touches in your videos, like showing the sunflower. You look like a little boy playing with toys when you sat on the harvester, etc!! Very interesting video. I couldn't figure out how to show translation, but that is ok. My father was a farmer and dairyman. He grew huge fields of vegetables, lettuce. Broccoli and sugar beets surrounded our house!

Harvest time for corn and soybean in Illinois. The sunset shows the dust from farmers fields in the air and you can see them driving through the fields at night with John Deere tractors. Very exciting time. Our town is also famous for pumpkins. Very nice to see such beauty across the world.

This took me back to childhood. The equipment looks about what ours looked like in the 1960's and 1970's. We did wheat in North Central Montana in an area called the Highline. We also had a ranch in mountains of Western Montana. Very hard work. A farmer is the world's biggest gambler. At least in USA the farmers can get insurance for bad crops but not for the situation your farmers find themselves. Rough when you get a bumper crop then there is no market and you sell at a loss. I became a software engineer instead of a farmer/rancher.

Thank you for bringing me with you to the farm. It's very sad about prices this year. It sometimes happens here for different reasons. Hard for a farmer, because he buys the seeds, and equipment, and works so hard; all without knowing how it will be at harvest time. Your videos are so informative, and I really appreciate.

My grandfather was a dairy farmer her in America for many years, people don't understand the hard work an comments it takes to be a farm the money you have to put into your tractors vet bills feed for the animals and time. My grandfather would be up at 4am every single morning , so much work,but he said it was a full filling life ,he never knew anything else. Beautiful farm there in Russia. Be safe my friend 💞
