The entire unit is special forces, they're all green berets. Now a lot of times video games have the main character addressed by some generic name like "devil dog" or "marine" or "spartan", but the whole point of that is to NOT have the character addressed by a unique name, and help the player identify/self insert with the character. In real life, Squads might have their own internal informal calls signs/nick names for squad comms, but if your squad nicknames you "devil dog" as a term reserved to refer to you and only you, you're either master chief/doomslayer levels of badass and probably have some serious combat medals to the point where you're seen as the epitome of a marine, or you're the most boot boot to ever boot, and they're making fun of you and probably hate you.

Joint Chiefs and joint command. The Marines Jackson is attached to is part of a larger task force you as the player might not have seen in the game. A regular MEU that took part of Al-Asad consists of roughly 2500 Marines, so I'm positive other units from the Army, Air Force, and possibly even other foreign forces such as the British, Australians, etc were a part of the 30k men who partook in the battle. Think of 03 Iraq during the invasion.

US marines can reenlist to other branches, skip boot camp, and keep a relatively similar rank, so not completely unrealistic

I was under 2nd MARDIV when I was down at the border, and I'm Army. Its quite common that other branches are under control if a certain Branch controls or runs that AO. Or if its a large scale invasion (like Iraq), it will primarily the Army calling the shots, due to them being the prime ground fighting force.

That's how it works in the military, even including NATO allies under other commanders from other countries.
