Once an engine attached to a train was afraid of a few drops of rain. It went into a tunnel and squeaked through it's funnel and never came out again. The engines name was Henry. His driver and fireman argued with him, but he wouldn't move.
@@liljayyboi2 the guard blew his whistle until he had no breath left, and waved his flag until his arms ached, but Henry stayed in the tunnel, and blew steam at them.
Henry then had a boiler issue, but refused to get out due to his concerns about the paintwork, Until, *BAM* his boiler exploded! the breakdown train was taken to henry, and he went to the steamworks. they found he had several other problems with him. Unfortunately, they weren't able to fix henry, and they set him back into the tunnel until his "special parts" were made. but they were never made, so he stayed there for many years. Occasionally, when other engines use the opposite track of the tunnel, inside of the bridge, you can see what's left of henry. Of course, you can't start a conversation as his faceplate rusted away recently. But to this day, the story of Henry has always been, and always will be, the most tragic story ever told on sodor. *-ROLL CREDITS-*
And if you see the CGI remake (The adventure begins), when Edward told Thomas this story, at the part that he said, ''they tryed with an engine too'', the whistle of the engine was from James, when he was trying to push Henry out of the tunnel. I'm writing those two comments for answer to some people who aren't sure.
3.56 "They cut a new tunnel through the hill". 1) The new tunnel is already there when Henry arrives. 2) Tunnel building is extremely hard and dangerous. You can't cut a tunnel that quickly.
Obviously they didn't cut it over the course of a day, apparently Henry was in that tunnel for a few months, a year at most, so that's enough time to build a wall and a new tunnel.
Fun fact: Awdry originally planned for Henry to be from a different railway than Edward and Gordon and the book to end with this story, but the publisher told him to end it with a happy story
@@jjb1908 Yeah I heard about that. I think Henry was originally just a standard GNR C1 Atlantic who stopped in a tunnel on the Great Northern Railway, not on Sodor. But then Awdry agreed that it was a good idea for all of his stories to be set on the same fictional island off the coast of England.
@@TheBrickGuy7939 could you imagine how Christopher Awdry reacted to Wilbert telling him this story as a kid and hearing that Henry would stay in the tunnel forever?
@@jjb1908 Oh yeah I didn't think about that. And then Awdry probably explained to him that no matter how much you care about these characters, they cannot escape what real trains go through. This is what makes Thomas so great, its entertaining action packed nature combined with its dark and gritty elements that are at play.
One of my favourite stories, screw those whinny adults that kept one saying this story is too harsh (I do feel sorry for Henry but I still think he somewhat deserved his punishment) these people have no idea that Henry is gonna be free in following stories.
@@LeaveTheMark_YT well hears the reason if they leave a engine in a tunnel on a new railway it wont be good for the railway why cause it will decrease in progress and leaving a expensive piece of machinery in a tunnel only having 1 other track to go through doesnt help the railway at all
In the Rws book it Eagle who tried push Henry out of the tunnel now it is thiomas in live action adaptation TTTEAF and in the Cgi version it is James For anyone thinking that red engine is james in the illustration , it isn't James was originally painted black with red stripes and did not appear until book 2 Thomas The Tank Engine and it is stated that James is new to the island
I have to admit the first Thomas and Friends Season 1 episode 3: The Sad Story of Henry is one of the saddest story of all and perhap maybe not an idea to make this episodes for small children because this could make them cry😢.
If you typed that 6 years ago you obviously didn’t understand. Henry was one of the oldest engines with Edward, James, gordon, and Thomas. Only reason Thomas didn’t have that voice is because that would be so weird a tank engine with a voice like that?
This is one of the darkest thomas stories thag became a episode. The scariest theory is that henry would die in the tunnel if he was never let out. Due to the line of the fat controller. (We sould leave you here always and always and always and always).
I'm going to have the whole railway series books they're my favorite of the Thomas and Friends since when I heard about characters that I never saw him in the show I always thought is The secret series found out in The railway series
The real reason the fat director didn’t help was because Secretly the fat director has super strength and would’ve easily pulled Henry out of the tunnel but he didn’t want anyone knowing
That engine is James, but they never mention him because he wasn't a principal character and they were waiting for James the Red Engine's book. The atention in the first book (The three railway engines) was putting into Edward, Gordon and Henry. I hope that this information will be useful. I'm from Argentina and a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine.
3:53 wait: if they cut a new tunnel through the hill, then why is there another part of the tunnel right next to Henry?! you did that for no reason Fat-Hatt! 😡
This is are all of the first engines that ever came to the railway Thomas eagle Neil, Clive and Matthew now let’s move on to the three railway engines and the three rude engines, starting off with Edward Henry and Gordon no the three route engines 98462/Alfred 87546/Crovan and finally alled greedy/the red engine
So dark, sentencing an engine to death, and how the narrator said 'he deserved it' Besides, why would Henry get punished, if anything his driver would face displinary action for refusing to work.
