Uncut Gems is a 2019 American crime thriller film directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. The film stars Adam Sandler, Kevin Garnett, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Mike Francesa, Idina Menzel, and Eric Bogosian. The plot follows Howard Ratner, a jeweler and gambling addict in New York City's Diamond District, who gets in over his head with loan sharks and must retrieve an expensive gem he purchased in order to pay off his debts.

I'll be honest i thought the video was gonna be about how the story beats of the film lie to the viewer. For example, Howard wins the bet, his colonoscopy results were good and he reunites with Julia(not the best person in the world but at least it's someone) It makes you think that everything will work out for Howard but they ultimately don't because he's a terrible person who took too many risks.

The opening scene in Ethopia was among the best in the film. If it had been written badly it could have been incongruous, but instead, with its cacophony of voices and vulnerable camera angles surrounded by furious people, it encapsulates the chaos of the film. And then we come out of Howard's colon. He treats everyone like shit and he thinks we're shit too. Through happenstance and "wrong" ideas they created a magnificent opening sequence.

Stasis Although that works as an analogy, I mainly think the colonoscopy scene - and the other times he is seen concerned about his health - is trying to show that Howard is actually concerned about his mortality. but the gemstone obscured that, leading to his series of self destructive decisions

Things were moving so fast that you hardly had time to consider the gut punching realities of what just happened in each scene. It wasn't a shot for shot pulse pounding movie where the score emphasizes important scenes. Or where one scene felt insanely critical. The score made all the scenes connected, flowing, and stopped you from getting stuck on just one thing. It made it like life. You can tell when a movie has a gritty New York feel. And this movie delivers that authenticity. Many of the actors were real New Yorkers. Adam Sandlers character was so believable that sandler was unrecognizable. I wanted to hate this movie, I wanted to hate this character, I wanted to hate this story, but I love it. I loved every second of it. And I need to watch it again.

One of the best movies I have seen in recent memory. Great story that was exciting, funny and unexpected. I also just feel a weird connection to it that's just hard to explain. Obvious things like I'm from NY, I love basketball, fine definitely not unique. But hearing them talk about connecting ideas that should be contradictory/not go together makes me think more on a cosmic/spiritual level how EVERYTHING is connected. I don't know if I'm explaining it well but this movie just really resonated with me. Even the ending is contradictory, everyone fears death or is not looking forward to it but Howard dies with a smile on his face. Great, great movie. Gonna watch it again ASAP.

Really good video and great movie. I'm curious how you got all of this b-roll though?

Disney/Marvel are probably going to put these guys on a project and they'll have to do whatever they tell them. Bean counters hovering over them telling them to do and to get it done quickly.

I have never heard of a movie where people unanimously bring up how anxious watching it made them feel. I love it. I mean not love the movie in the usual way I love that it could do this to me and so many other people.

this movie was a FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT Job. (and yes i have the movie i like the movie. is it deep well i think comes of as Deep cause the makes what it to be thought of as Deep...But this is a movie i could have come up with in like a hour. because like most good movies there simple and you just add things cause you think you have to. But you could have cut out 5 scenes and it still would have worked. like the stuff with the WEEKEND or the Africa Opening for a start and telling and not showing that would still have been understood..)

This movie is definitely an acquired taste & that's putting it nicely. It gives you anxiety and a headache with all the yelling. The soundtrack to the movie is even more annoying. And I get it, it was all done purposely to make you feel uncomfortable. Honestly it would've been so much better if the soundtrack to the movie would've eased up or injected here and there. The story & plot are good, I'm not denying that but it's just toooooo much in your face. It would've been sooo much better if they scaled it back just a bit. Seriously.

I don't feel like Adam Sandler should get a prize for actually giving a shit once 'n awhile.. He literally pockets all the backing for his shitty movies and stuffs them so much with advertising it's sickening

something about the audience of the movie being shit to Adam Sandler's character or something

@grasshopperfiddler

The music was a huge distraction. Very anoying and impacted the complicated story negatively. It was difficult enough to understand the narrative and the music made scenes “bleed” into eachother and also were in contrast to the narrative in a way that made it more difficult to understand.

Maybe not “Darker”. I would say they make “hyper-grounded” movies. So the level of death or darkness is less, but the gripping level of realism makes it hit harder

0:40 so true. A huge red flag for lying: lots of details. Many unimportant details and tangents in a story usually means someone is lying.
