The sister is probably going to say “Why didn’t you warn me?!” to the OP when this creep does something inappropriate to a child in the future.

Why would anyone look for a missing item in the pitch darkness of another persons room? No one would. There is something going on here and it's bad.

I had the same exact situation happen with my daughter and my husband’s brother (by different fathers so they didn’t grow up in the same house, his brother’s father had custody of his kids-not the mother). We weren’t living with him, but he would come and stay with us from a different state to visit. He had zero interest in my son, but was bat crap crazy about my daughter-who is admittedly cute. She was a very great favorite of the little boys in her class long before children get to the romantic phase, and would sometimes come home with gifts or notes from male classmates. My brother in law is strange and has no luck with women. He wouldn’t get away from my daughter and was putting off creepy vibes-even going so far as to try and get her alone away from me which I absolutely would not stand for and we got into arguments. I had no solid proof of anything bad but my instincts were screaming. Fast forward to a visit to my mother in law’s house in the brother in law’s same state. I saw him get up and go into the back bedroom where my daughter was taking a nap and walked back there to see his hand up under her blanket in her midsection (tummy area) and I freaked out-demanding that he leave her alone and come join the family out in the living room. He argued and refused. I stormed out and whispered furiously to my husband to go get his brother out of our daughter’s bedroom at any cost. He did so. BIL came out sullenly acting like an angry pup. Night came and he complained that he was too tired to leave and his mother said that he could sleep with the kids (as we had the other spare bedroom). I said no, she argued and tried to shush me and override me. I jumped up and went into the guest bedroom and slammed the door so hard the house shook a bit. She came in with her husband looking freaked out and offended. I wasn’t about to back down. She questioned me and I just laid it all out for her. “I don’t trust your son with my daughter!” I explained everything he had done over all of the visits that put up red flags for me and I said “if you insist that he isn’t guilty or that it’s all in my head and that he can stay with my children-we are leaving and we will not be coming back. I am her mother and it is my job to protect her at all costs. I and I WILL do my job, so help me God.” She was floored but admitted that it made sense because his dad was that way-that he had groomed her and abused her from the age of 13 on as her adoptive parents allowed it when he was 27 years old. And his opinion was “get them and train them young”. (Not that it worked out well for him because she left him as soon as she was able to). She apologized to me and they had him go home instead. At a later date I had it out with husband’s brother and we’ve never spoken since. He never married or had kids.

Man I wish my mom went this far for me, instead she moved me into a kid tickler’s house because she didn’t want to stop doing drugs, turning 20 here in a few weeks, still has nightmares and my mom still walks around saying she couldn’t do anything and that she did everything she could, ya sure mom

No adult needs to be in a child's room with the door shut! I would be suspicious of David as well. How did David think he was going to find his cell phone in a room that was pitch dark?It's good that OP has explained her concerns to her son he is old enough to know about predators and how they work to groom a child.

Op should take her kid to his doctor and explain everything that happened and how he is acting. The doctor should be able to order therapy, and it should be covered by insurance if the doctor decides it is "necessary." It still might not happen because insurance companies are the spawn of Satan, but it might be worth the try

Always trust your mother’s instincts, he was grooming your son . That he’s not on an offenders list means nothing, some escape detection for years . Also he has money and is living with a woman, the perfect cover . I’m certain people in his life suspect but money talks

I really hate that OP feels like she’s a bad mother. She works a lot, but she’s also aware enough to know what’s going on! Most people don’t even realize when their children are being groomed until it’s too late! She KNEW and is doing everything she can to remove her child from this situation. She’s doing a good job! And she should change that kid’s phone number too and tell him not to give it to him!

Up until the bedroom bit, I thought it was a bit much, but it could simply be David wanting to give Roman a father figure when he’s at his mothers house as, due to dating his aunt, basically being his uncle. He’s being there for the kid and showing him support. Then the bedroom bit came and that was what weirded me out

When the sus actions where listed in the first post, after 1 and 2 i was like "Thats sorta werid but it could be loving" and then she talked about the bedroom and i thought "AH HELL NO GET THE PEDO AWAY." Having a 13 year old brother, smart, nice hair, ADHD, going through his growth spurt, i got extra pissed

OP is really a coward for deleting her Reddit account before letting us know if David got arrested or not but she should have shown her sister the video

Story 1 OP did almost everything right she just messed up the order of doing them first after suspecting David is when she should have bought the camera not after confronting and about to move out that's wasted money after the confrontation second she didn't seem to disturb David the second time she found him in her son's room if I was reading along correctly she right to be concerned she just did shit backwards and I know she said her ex was emotionally abusive but that's a bit better than letting her son possibly continue to live with a possible predator.

If I was OP, I would actually tell the ex-husband. If he does have a bad temper he can get a good ego boost from kicking David’s ass!

something i dont think people talk about is how terrifying it is to be the parent of an attractive child. through out my life ive had guns put in my face, been stabbed and slashed on 2 different occasions, been jumped on a few different occasions, too many street fights to count and I could keep going. i have never felt fear like i have since my son was born 2 years ago. people go out of their way to interact with him and tell him how cute he is some even trying to touch him. ive caught people trying to take his picture without consent. 1 day a guy tried following me and him home from the park. after the 3rd right turn i just turned around and asked him if he thought a jury would convict me if I blew his brains out right then. i dont even want to get started on jealous children. i know exactly how paranoid all of this sounds but i also know there are some parents that can relate to this. im not crazy. you are not crazy. protect your children at all costs.

I haven't even gotten to the main issues yet, but how is David upset OPs sister took her in when it starts off sounding like he's the real freeloader already? At least she can pay and would clean the house. What does he do?? They're more worried about image since it's guilt by association should that came out, but ignore they look WORSE when he's charged and they're outed for allowing what he did and excusing it by means of "mental health crisis" they didn't think to have him in therapy or commited for after the first few instances.
