I like the idea of a "sit-able" nav station, but in our Westsail I just couldn't give up the storage in the galley/nav area. I would keep it as is - but it's a personal preference.
I think you should trust your feelings on this. I find that when I have thought long and hard about something, I usually come to the right decision for me. I don't know what is in other people's minds. Just keep going slow and sure.
@@Even_Keeled How is your V-berth configured? I had a taller cabinet on the starboard but cut it down - but still not happy with height and clearance of the bed surface. I am thinking about cutting the V-berth surface down further. What year is your boat? I heard they changed the V-berth generally in later production years.
Hi. I've just stumbled upon your channel. It brings back memories as in the 1980's we fitted out an Australian version, a Westsail 33. Basically, a Westsail 32 but with an extra foot added to the bow. It took us 7 years to finish, and we used Ferenc Máté's "From a Bare Hull" as our guide. I wish you all the best of luck in your project and will look forward to watching your future episodes. Steve
That’s neat. I have quite a few popular titles that are on most shelves for refits and restorations. They’ve all been helpful. I’ll check that book out. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the update. We knew a few Cape George boats in Newport OR before we got Dreamcatcher up to Portland - and we are also following the GGR with great interest. Sad to see the US sailor Guy deBoer up on the rocks a few weeks back. Also dismayed to see all the footage of boat carnage from Ian - a few Westsails have been impacted. It's a tough balance - living real life while working on a boat - just keep doing what you're doing - it'll get there.
Yeah, do not want to see boats out of the event so early. I’m really impressed with the overlay of Moitessier’s route. He was so much further ahead at this point. Different factors of course. Though, I’d say to finish is to win.
I just found your channel and watched all episodes. I'm thinking of getting getting a W32 as my retirement boat and have a question. How long are the berths?
That’s great. A solid, blue water cruiser. It has 6’ headroom. The v-berth up front should be 7.25 feet from the main bulkhead to the chain locker fitting a standard memory foam mattress. I can double-check the measurements. For the port side saloon table that drops to make a berth and for the starboard side pilot berths, I’d need to measure them. I hear it can sleep 6’0. And the information out there to get to know and fix just about any part of the boat is widely available. Specifically: westsail.com/servman2.htm Update: “My pilot berth is 76-inches at the front face, measured inside the lee-board.” From another 32 owner (depends too if it was kit finished and changed)
