Im currently on holiday having a miserable time, thousands of miles from home. As a fan of The Saint, i put this episode on to calm my nerves and take me to a happier place. About 5 minutes into the episode, i realised i had read this story a mere few weeks ago in the book The Saint in Europe. I love how when they adapt the Charteris stories, they are often verbatim. Very accurate, and i really appreciated that.
Used to finish studying early and wait for the show on government tv... when the theme music started all the family was quiet for one hour,no commercial,to enjoy his voice, his acting and story... great family get together.Great actor.Bye Sir Roger Moore.
Absolutely gorgeous man, stylish, classy, debonnaire. Excellent actor with a fascinating life. There was only one real Saint, and in my book, only one real James Bond...Sir Roger Moore.
I can't find any other comment that I made. I'm sure that I made one. I have loved Roger for years. He was such a handsome man. Of course we all know that part. This was a favorite show that I was allowed to watch when I was a child.
That prelude music always invokes a strange feeling in me ,being a child of the 50s and early sixties. It gives me a sense of something nostalgic and something lost.
Believe or not I was 3 or 4 and that music used to freak me out. I covered my ears and hide behind the couch because the combination of the music and stick man did me in - funny when I listen to it now - my mother used to try to drag me out to show me there was nothing to be afraid of!
He was cool handsom intelligent classy stylish like cary grant, but with fighting skills..also played as Beau Maverick, cousin of Bret and Bart. I watched him from the mid sixties to now...Sir Roger Moore...never forgotten
@@johnchurch4705 : You are correct, Warren Mitchell acted in The Avengers. He also appeared in Help! & The Assassination Bureau with Oliver Reed ,& Diana Rigg to name a few of his other credits. I always enjoyed his acting. You are the only other person I has encountered that remembers him, at least by name. Stay healthy!
@@terencedove5047 : Terence I agree with your comment 100%. I picked out Warren Mitchell because I have enjoyed his roles, not only in The Saint, but also in Danger Man & The Avengers to name a few. But the countless others that standout to me like, , Jane Merrow, Ferdy Mayne, Eric Pohlman, Allan Cuthbertson, the ever nerveous Christopher Benjamin, Fulton Mackay, & one of my favorite villains Derren Nesbitt.
@@josephlemko3027 ...not to mention Jan Holden, John Cleese, Ray Austin (who also coordinated stunts for THE AVENGERS), Geoffrey Palmer, Diana Dors, among others. Wonderful at their craft, ALL of them... (BTW, thanks for sharing! Information can be an awesome thing!)
This man is all class. One of the many great tv shows of the 60s..Hadnt seen these since 67. Really enjoyed seeing him again. I did miss the Volvo he drove, but since hes in Italy, well . . .
I was trying to place the cab drivers face and realized it was Warren Mitchell. For those not in the know, he was an English actor who played Alf Garnet in "Till Death Do Us Part"... among many, many other roles. It`s sad to think that both he and Roger Moore have gone.
Wow what treat going back to my youth it was a big hit in it's time and still is with it and Bonanza same night it was a bonus as we had no TV or electricity and went to a neighbor's place Thursday night's 2 miles away we lived 20 miles from town it was our treat in life besides being a close family with good VALUES also we were treated with The Fugitive and Run for your Life many thanks for bring ing back quality shows❤
@@Truthseeker1515 me too but I did really like Moonraker though but the older Bond movies I'd say are way better with Roger Moore etc than more recent times, even the badies were great lol
The 'Saint' series had lots of 'guest stars' and stuff, but it would haven't been so popular without the likeable Roger Moore's presence which I suspect was the one reason why people watched the show.
So OTT deliciousness. Roger Moore was my ideal man when I was a young girl. I LOVE how each show has him breaking the 4th wall! And the actors in them from back in the day. Love this. 👍😁
Season 1 episode 2 .... Simon Templar and @ 6:50 ....introducing 'Super Mario' ...the taxi driver in the police cell , the cap and the moustache ... just the 'perfect Nintendo Mario character' ... so he was already there , some decades ago 👌🔥thanks for the uploading ... when movies ...were movies ! 👑
@@terencedove5047 Not sure coz we were dropped off at the entrance and just followed the tour guide. Don’t miss the place where the lions and gladiators were kept before being released for combat. The Spanish steps and Trevi fountain have small cafes around where u can eat delicious pizza and ice cream. I tasted all the ice cream every place I went to. Have fun. Don’t miss the French onion soup at Montmare and the 1 euro street crepe in Berlin. Have fun
@@Apple-qq4bp ...thank you very much for responding! If I remember this exchange once I go, I will make sure to come back and give a synopsis of that trip. Meanwhile, it was very kind of you to answer. Thanks again! 😊👍
raffaella paci you wouldnt recognise Rome as it has become now, I was there in the 60s and it was a beautuful city but now Italy has taken in too many immigrants and Europeans will soon be a minority, so sad because no one will travel there to see the sights as it won't be Italy anymore, the EU have destroyed the wonderful cities we once knew, forcing people to accept more and more people into their towns and villages. I am all for helping people who have lost their homes through war , but not those who merely exoect other countries to take care of them financially, where does it end, so very sad watching it happen.
Enjoyed this show as a kid. Roger was so cute. Always the leading man. Good Bond...and funny too. Many years of really nice memories from the shows and movies. So sad that you were taken by cancer. #love #memories May 23 2017
@@Retroscoop To be fair, Ian Ogilvy was almost as charming as Roger Moore, and even more athletic, in the role of Simon Templar. Unfortunately, due to directorial gaffes, RETURN OF THE SAINT was not given a fair chance in the ratings, lasting only one season. (I may be speaking heresy, but I thought Ogilvy's white Jaguar XJS was sleeker than the legendary Volvo 1800S from the original series!) After watching RETURN on CBS late on Friday nights, I was compelled to get my hands on as many of Leslie Charteris' original novels as possible, beginning with a re-release of 1963's VENDETTA FOR THE SAINT.
Suzan Farmer were in these episodes : The Desperate Diplomat, The Convenient Monster, The Sign of the Claw, The Latin Touch and in the Persuaders episode : That's Me Over There.
I heard and saw on TV that Rome is an attractive city to visit. The Vatican - Holy See is in the center of Rome and is among the tiniest of nations. I like the way Rick Steves showcases Rome and it's Jewish as well as Catholic population. Thank You, Godspeed, Shalom, Ludwig
My Mother said once that Roger Moore is her kind of guy. I love my Mom and Roger Moore as a Brother dearly. God Bless, Faithfully with God, Love Always, Ludwig
One of the BEST (and incidentally, more civilized) espionage TV shows to be produced anywhere! Two of my favorite shows of all time are this one, THE SAINT (ITC, 60s-70s) and THE AVENGERS (ABC [Associated British Corporation] 60s-70s)...
Just love this series. Thank you for uploading it for us. This was one of the best of a score of great shows from the 60's and 70's, with others such as Department S; The Avengers; The Persuaders; It Takes a Thief; Secret Agent Man; The Prisoner; The Champions, and host of others. Great stuff.
