No one talking about Demon Tinky Winky? What a tragic end to the old school winner, turning to his primal urges out of sheer desperation and losing nonetheless
He threw away his humanity but lost his support from Coney and the chat in the process. Piplup showed us you can only get to the top with hard work and training; Tinky Winky tried to take a shortcut to that power and failed.
Fun fact: Coney actually RIGGED THE VOTING PHASE via Twitch Chanting to get Ed in. So it’s really funny that Ed immediately repaid him by embarrassing Coney’s favorite character Kracko.
Fun fact this attack that he does is only available for 1 level unless you get the secret ending of fire emblem 6. Otherwise this is just his crit animation
I remember once watching a legit fighting game event do a tournament where it was 4v4 team matches with random characters using a random build with like 12K-20K characters in it or something like that
Hiya, that's me! I made Piplup's 7th Evolution, a meme edit of Tizoc! To clarify, this version of Piplup (latest public version) was made around 2019! The version that was in SaltyBet was a slightly older, less polished version that still had crappy bugs, like the awful flashing on his 12p "Press Screen" you'd see in exhibs there as an example. The reason he's so cracked out and buff in SpriteClub by comparison is that when initially released, he barely made it to one of the higher tiers, or in this case "divisions" (think the equivalent of SaltyBet's high A-tier to mid S-tier), but he'd struggle a lot, so he was patched to do actual combos, have stupid hitboxes, to not attempt to grab ungrabable enemies, etc. The version sent to SaltyBet for EX9 was the older version. You might be thinking: Now Yensi, that sounds stupid to make him invulnerable to all projectiles during his T.O.P. mode (making certain combos drop on him) and to make him do 90% off of a single grab, and to make him so damn fast. Isn't that lame? Yes, it is! But his competition wasn't suited around low-tiers like Stan Smith, it was suited around characters like Roy (which beat Piplup 2-0 in thug finals and would've been a great Grand Finals) and against other cheap and brutal characters, the tip of the M.U.G.E.N iceberg. When I said that he was nerfed in the tournament, his damage was basically cut in half to be more fair of a fight, and other fighters were adjusted to be more fair as well. That's basically why despite throwing everyone around like ragdolls, he timed-out Wario twice. To whomever is still reading, I wanna thank y'all for enjoying my dumb Tizoc edit, as well as enjoying SpriteClub and the crazy world of M.U.G.E.N! Thanks to Gonderlane for being cool, thanks to CONEY for making this great, hype commentary and betting on all the tournaments, and I want to personally applaud whomever the hell made that hilarious image with Piplup's head on Tizoc, I love you lol
Hi, I'm the one who made the Piplup/Tizoc image (I'm also the editor of the video). Glad you enjoy the imagery. When I first needed to find a picture for Piplup's 7th Evolution, I thought it would be funnier if I played up the idea that it was an actual Piplup and not just a recolored Tizoc.
I can tell this character is cracked especially when he bested the shit out of good a.i patches (Anomi Polis and Holn) in this video Kudos to you for making such a fan favorite
I knew Lucario was in a losing match-up when facing against Piplup's 7th Evolution. A defensive fighter focused around countering and pressuring opponents with fireballs versus a grappler that can ignore projectiles? Absolute curbstomp.
You gotta give to rarity. On pure skill she outclassed Thanos and was able to zone out Tinky Winky, making him reach out in desperation to forbidden arts. She made him sell his soul at the last second hoping for some kind of redemption, but got beat down. She only lost to full screen health drains and one-hit KO's.
The sword was actually the start up of Roy’s super-the two popped their supers at the EXACT same time, but Roy’s has a short activation hitbox on his sword (as in Smash Ultimate itself) and that beat out the flamethrower and let Roy hit the full super.
This was fantastic with the piplup redemption arc. It was super freaky seeing tinky winky showing us his true form for his first and probably last time.
Fun fact about God Gundam: Its anime of origin was LITERALLY a giant tournament storyline with occasional non-tournament side arcs. The first half of the show is just traveling the planet looking for people to fight, but the second half is the tournament finals, which have a more structured format of scheduled matches (but still not exactly brackets). In the finals, Domon (the Gundam's pilot, who we see during its cinematic supers) declares his intent to win every single match and achieve a perfect streak of victories. He succeeded there... but not here. Guess his Gundam just wasn't equipped for being shrunk down to fight things that aren't other Gundams.
I wouldn't care about this at all in most situations even as a pretty hard core FGC kinda guy, just a very odd kinda set up from the outside looking in, but Coney's commentary in this vid is straight S tier and he had me going for the entire bracket.
Piplup's 6th evolution wins I'm glad he beat Shovel Knight (Also I want to see Piplup's 7th evolution VS. Roy sometime would have been a really cool match)
One of the exhibitions that took place after the tournament was Roy vs. Piplup, actually. Roy went 2-0 (which was actually an improvement over his 2-1 in the first tournament) against him.
This whole tournament is just the final arc of a shonen anime. Allow me to explain while mashing up anime tropes: THE LINEUP: Piplup is the protagonist, the Deku. He was pushed out and bodied really early because he was mostly gimmick, and has fought as hard as he can to be able to stand toe-to-toe with the others and has become *frighteningly* powerful. He's ready to make a point that he's still alive and ready to kick ass. He's only in the tournament out of luck. Roy is the Good Rival, the Vegeta. He came in contact with Piplup early and won, but he's stupidly powerful in his own right and still tries his hardest to prove that he's just as strong as everyone else. Hopes for a rematch with Piplup to see how they compare now. He's the Rival you *want* to see win. Lucario is the Neutral Rival, the Todoroki. He's not really associated with the main group but they both respect each other and each other's prowess. He's got a specific technique that while it doesn't line up with most, it's incredibly difficult to fight against. Wario is the Distant Rival, the Piccolo. He actually won the original tournament he was in, but he hasn't really improved much on his own and doesn't have much to offer and doesn't seem to evolve much; not that you'd think that to be an issue, however. God Gundam is the old master, the All Might. He's known to be *stupidly* powerful but it's not obvious that he has his flaws and will have moments of weakness. People expect him to steamroll everyone with ease, and it's terrifying if he loses. Thanos is the Omnicidal Villain, the Cell. He's known to have bonkers powers that are terrifying to deal with, and it's expected that he'll be the one to end things without wavering. To see him fail ins unthinkable. Shovel Knight is the True Rival, the Bakugo. He's consistent but cocky, willing to win with tactics that are hard to fault but with an overlying attitude that makes it easy for you to hate him. You don't really want to see him win, but it's likely he will. Rarity is the Subtle Rival, the Android 17. She's incredibly powerful in her own way and can hold her own in a fight, but nobody's really expecting much of her. Can and will stuff you if you underestimate her. Tinky Winky is the Creepy Villain, the Ginyu. He's a cowardly but capable douchebag who wins any way he can, and even through everyone in-universe hates him for it, he has enough odd quirks that make him loveable to the audience, complete with posing! Ends up being terrifying, however. Ed is the Lethal Joke Character, the Majin Buu. He's silly and strange, but he has one main power that's utterly fucking terrifying to fall victim to, and people do indeed do so. It's unclear if we want him to succeed or not. Everyone else is some other irrelevant character I don't care to outline. THE FIGHTS 1. Piplup vs. Stan Smith - Piplups first fight is to establish the fact that he's levelled up massively. Stan just falls by the wayside; he can try as hard as he wants, and while he might make a dent, Piplup still overcomes everything he comes up with. 2. Wario vs. Popeye - Wario proves himself still a worthy combatant. Popeye is *expected* to be on par multiple times, but Wario still does what he does best. 3. God Gundam vs. Lucario - Out of nowhere, Lucario shows how hard he's been working with his chosen style and completely topples God Gundam. Everyone is completely taken off guard, but Lucario carries on without looking back. Suspense now fills the spectators. What can happen next? 4. Kyo vs. Tinky Winky - It's close, but it's still in Tinky Winky's favour. It's unsure if Tinky Winky *needed* to call upon other fighters? But he did anyway. What an asshole. 5. Roy vs. Superman - Roy comes blazing in as hard as he can to remind everyone of what made him so powerful to begin with. It's not a complete steamroll, but Roy still obliterates Superman in his explosive style. 6. Thanos vs. Rarity - Thanos falters at first. It's strange, we're so used to seeing him obliterate everyone, and, for a moment, Rarity has hope, but it's all a bait and switch. Rarity goes down as expected. 7. Shovel Knight vs. Kracko - The opening reminder that Shovel Knight is heading for the top in one go, and Kracko is annihilated in the process. 8. Ed vs. Spiderman - Ed goes down after Spiderman proves the greater fighter, as expected, but Ed's capabilities still go into Losers bracket, posing a threat to those who need to climb up after suffering a defeat. Ed looms over the underdogs now. 9. God Gundam vs. Kyo - It's a rough start, but God Gundam starts to claw things back and show what made us so excited to see him fight in the first place. Reminded of his flaws, he begins to go even further beyond with his signature move. 10. Kracko vs. Ed - the first indicator that Ed is a proper threat. Even though Kracko doesn't seem like that much of a prominent fighter, Ed still manages to prove his silly ferocity. 11. Piplup vs. Wario - Wario won the tournament they were both in at first, but this almost seems to confirm our suspicions who the true winner would have been if the Cheap As Fuck Mario wasn't in the bracket at first. Piplup doesn't do much damage, but he doesn't need to. His point is being proven, over and over again. 12. Lucario vs. Tinky Winky - Lucario sticks to his guns as he always does and keeps doing his thing, which completely ruins Tinky Winky's usual tactics. Tinky Winky feels humiliated by Lucario not even reacting to his taunting Uh Ohs, and will try to claw his way back later on. 13. Roy vs. Thanos - Thanos is expected to win at first, especially considering Roy's fighting style, but Roy also has *absolutely batshit damage,* something Thanos can't zone through. In the most cathartic moment of the century, even after Thanos managed to take at least one set, Roy blows him the fuck up. 14. Spiderman vs. Shovel Knight - As expected, Shovel Knight does the same thing, grinds his opponent into dust. Nobody is surprised. 15. Thanos vs. God Gundam - Thanos has his final chance to maintain his presence, only to come face to face with a resolute God Gundam. After so long, God Gundam turns things around and manages to, much like one of his students, Roy, blow Thanos the fuck up. 16. Tinky Winky vs. Rarity - Rarity was knocked out early as expected, but she still has something to prove. Tinky Winky is known to be a hard fighter, but Rarity is having none of it. Tinky Winky gets desperate and lets out an inner, horrifying power, but it's not enough. Rarity continues on. 17. Spiderman vs. God Gundam - God Gundam has momentum, and that momentum is terrifying. Spiderman gets blown the fuck up, and it will go even further. 18. Rarity vs. Ed - Rarity has been strong enough to give Thanos pause and to topple Tinky Winky, but Ed's a joke character. Ed does a wide range of inane moves, but, of course, he has a fucking flamethrower, and he grows more and more terrifying. 19. Piplup vs. Lucario - It's greatly anticipated, but Lucario's technique, while consistent as ever and still powerful as ever, Piplup is Piplup, and takes the match with his fists held high. 20. Roy vs. Shovel Knight - Roy can barely touch Shovel Knight. It's becoming clear that the two anticipated Grand Finalists are both touch of death characters, and as Roy goes down and the stage becomes set for the final confrontation, Roy himself resolves to at least take the Losers Bracket if he can. 21. Piplup vs. Shovel Knight - What is expected to be a turning point in both their stories becomes a tour de force of Piplup's rise to glory. There's been banter back and forth over who is faster and who has the best skill, but Shovel Knight has remained static in his skills, while Piplup has grown. Shovel Knight reminds Piplup he doesn't have the right to be there. Piplup proves him wrong three times in a row. Shovel Knight is defeated for the first time. He resolves to never let that happen again. 22. Roy vs. Ed - Ed has had a bizarre line of bodies in his wake, and now that Roy stands in his way, people expect the worst; but Roy is the hype master, the explosion king. In a moment of terrifying closeness, Roy manages to fake out Ed and blow him the fuck up. The crowd (and commentator) goes fucking nuts. 23. Lucario vs. Roy - It's close, but the two Rivals show their best skills. Lucario shows his style has more evolution than we thought, but Roy, in his hype style, *blows Lucario the fuck up.* 24. Shovel Knight vs. Roy - In a show of arrogance, Shovel Knight starts countering Roy to prove a point - but falters as Roy takes a set from him. Shovel Knight doesn't make that mistake again, taking the match and leaving Roy in the dust. 25. Piplup vs. Shovel Knight - The Final Match. The Grand Finale. In a show of incredibly irony, while Shovel Knight tries to use Roy's counter ability against Piplup a few times, he finds out what Roy found out the hard way that Piplup has an answer for it; and, unlike last time, Piplup doesn't lose. His punish continues, neverendlingly, and Shovel Knight ends up collapsing in a heap before Piplup's absolute power of Meme. Piplup is the Champion. With a fucking *mic drop.* If you read this far I'm genuinely surprised. Thank you! Hope you enjoyed.
I’m glad the best pony is being used for this. Although maybe not the most fitting for a fighting tournament, watching Rarity lay the smack down on people in this was exceedingly entertaining
Watching evil Tinky Winky beating the shit out of Rarity the Pony as 'I Am All of Me' plays in the background is the most surreal thing I've ever seen.
Omg it's time. My final prediction of the series! My top 3 would have to be roy because I am an avid ghostfighter myself, rarity because her moveset is dope and nothing else, and kracko bcause funni clowd. Edit: round 1 and at least roy is still standing... Rarity and kracko got robbed. I'm a fan of wario, piplup and tinkywinky as well and was back in their brackets but more than 3 picks is insane so I'm just rooting for them on the side Edit: Piplup it is! Edit: YEEEEAH. SHOVEL KNIGHT'S DEEEEEAD
This was amazing with melee level lore. The amazing run of Roy, For the Sun Tinky Winky, fan favorite Ed going the distance, early upsets of the top seeds and the meme character that couldn’t make top 2 in the first ever tourney taking the whole thing. What was your favorite moment?
This was an absolutely AMAZING tournament. I’m glad I got to see it live. Fun fact: This was the only time in the Salty Bet/Sprite Club series where I made big bets.
This tournament was truly unpredictable. You would think based on the results that some of the entrants came in on a LCQ in some no-name town. But they won tournaments!
Watching this video after the others had some of the greatest payoff I’ve ever seen in competition. So many defining moments that happened in this tournament: Roy’s god-slaying fights, Piplup’s return of the century, seed 1 & 2 fighting to stay in losers, Tinky Winky’s final fall from grace against rarity, and the unfortunate bracket of Kracko. I knew piplup was going to win after round 1, and I was hype as shit for it, but the real showstopper here was definitely Roy. He fought the most dangerous opponents and went straight to the very end. Our boy sent Thanos to the floor faster than anyone else, he put an end to Ed’s cheap reign with a Fiery finale, and he overcame absolute defense with absolute offense. And his defeat against Shovel knight didn’t even feel depressing or even remotely sad, because he was simply outclassed, but he proved his god damn worth. And it was a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
I've come back to watch this video twice now, and despite knowing about saltybet/spriteclub for years, never really watched it because it usually just looks like a mess of supers and move-spam, but Coney's commentary and the twitch chat hype around the characters really sucks you in. I had no idea who would take it to finals, but Roy's story felt like the real victory here. What a fighter, what a guy. ROY'S OUR BOY!
Can we just acknowledge how strong Rarity was as a combatant? In her debut tournament, she only lost to God Gundam (who eventually one the whole tournament and was picked by Coney to be one of the two top contenders of the champions tournament), and she went 2 to 3 against the GG (which is WAY better than what the second place finisher Popeye managed considering he lost 1 to 5 and only got that one win thanks to a special move that took the GG down to one health from full and kept him locked up until time ran out). Then, she goes 2 to 3 against Thanos (which is the other one of the two top contenders Coney chose for the champions tournament), beat the monstrous Tinkie Winkie with a perfect round 1 and had to pull of essentially what was ANOTHER perfect round 2 after the demon pulled out a never before seen special move that took her all the way down to one hp from full, and finally ended up losing to Ed who had the most broken ability in the tournament considering he could stun his opponents from anywhere on the screen and drain them down to one hp without even needing to use meter (and she STILL managed to take a game off him). Rarity may not have one either of the tournaments that she was in, but she put on one hell of a show! My only hope is that when Coney inevitably does more tournaments, we get another pony rep. Since Coney apparently has a decent amount of bronies in his audience, it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Btw if you think Rarity is strong wait til you see the other ponies on Spriteclub. Applejack was originally supposed to be in the cartoons vs anime tournament but she literally stomped everyone so hard I had to replace her for a "weaker" pony. (She also goes even against God Gundam and beats Thanos)
16:59 in all my days I've never seen more one sided gameplay. I popped off every hit. Piplup with the frankenstiner into a reset, to the slow powerbomb, an catching Wario on wake up with a normal grab linking a stand kick, into a super jump Nair finishing with a lariat. An the combo wasnt even over
i clicked on the video cuz i saw tizoc and kyo, having NO context coming in i leave super happy that kof15 will have the heel persona of piplups 7th evolution, charmanders 7th evolution, in its roster
piplup didnt parry stan's gunshot there, piplup is based on tizoc from garou and it was that the bullet damaged him enough to put him in his "TOP IN range" which is where before the game starts you pick 1/3rd of your health to be where your attack gets buffed, (first third, last third or the middle) and he reached the middle third of his HP after being shot. Its just a kinda cool mechanic and i appreciate whoever made the mugen conversion keeping it included even while making the rest of the character so nonsense LOL
the algorithm granting me this as soon as i wake up is too much. the absolute hype in this man's voice when dipsy came onto the screen with tubby custard...... holy shit
Whoever invited Ed back needs to be banned, who wants to see someone just gimmick every character to 1 hp then fight to land one actual hit. Rarity deserved the tournament 😎🤣
you should do this but set every character to the same stats, put the game on the hardest difficulty, and also check each characters individual file out because some of them have separate difficulty settings that override the setting in options.

@@Leet-iz2fz every now and then I check on the comments on this vid and I missed this one, very nice work and sorry for not noticing 7 months ago lol. I made the playlist for this tourney along with suggestions from the sprite club community at the time, they're awesome. if I can find my organized playlist I can fill in the blanks for you
I’m convinced coney is the very best commentator , with EE and TK right at his heels. Coneys just the hype white dude who will scream tinky winky with the same energy as he screams for pro smashers.
Superflash works like in fighterz, as do counters where you can cancel into supers to avoid them because they take a few frames to hit (like jiren's 214S, RIP, #Crysomething )
NieR Automata music playing during the Shovel Knight vs Spider Man match and I'm surprised that Coney didn't have an aneurism to try to skip to the next track as soon as possible Also I popped off when A Long Fall (The Twinning) started playing
