Another brilliant masterpiece by the late outstanding Jerry Goldsmith.Everything this genius has done has been nothing short of brilliance I miss this unique gentleman. His film and television scores will be around forever. RIP Maestro Goldsmith !!!!!!!!!
Another excellent soundtrack upload, young Fred! I first saw "The Sand Pebbles" as an 8-year-old boy in 1967 at a local cinema and have never forgotten it (the movie was released on 20 Dec. 1966 & I turned 8 years old on 8 Dec. 1966) and I have always been a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith's soundtracks, such as this excellent film score for "The Sand Pebbles." Today is 20 Dec. 2023, so "The Sand Pebbles" was released 57 years ago today. Time flies! _Tempus fugit velut umbra._ _Serius est quam cogitas._
“The Sand Pebbles” was a solid success, both for critics and audiences worldwide. The picture has a fantastic setting and a brilliant storyline, wonderfully performed by Steve McQueen (who, with this picture would earn his only nomination for an Academy Award), Richard Attenborough (who would earn a Golden Globe for his acting) and many others. In total the movie was a favorite at the Academy Awards, but won none of the eight prices it was nominated for. So was the score of Jerry Goldsmith, whose recognition in Hollywood would strengthen, through this work and “The Blue Max”, which both were released in 1966. Enjoy!
I have this score and have enjoyed it. Now Jerry Goldsmith's scores to me, in my opinion, all sound the same except for his Chinatown score which I think is superior to all of his other scores. As stated I make these comments in my humble opinion. Thanks as always Fred you are a Blessing to us Movie Score devotees.😍
@@LaSharown Wait...Patton sounds like Insurrection? The Shadow sounds like Planet of the Apes? Air Force One sounds like The Ghost and the Darkness? I get it's your opinion, but come on, Jerry was so versatile. Of course he's going to sound similar in all of his scores, it's the same with Williams or Zimmer or Horner or Elfman or Shore etc etc.
@@FranticAnimations Every composer has a personal style otherwise we wouldn't have the fun of recognition when hearing it without knowing what it's from
Steve McQueen was a big movie star, but he is an underrated actor. Even Dustin Hoffman said that Steve McQueen should have won the Oscar for best actor for his role in Papillon.
What a film! Long and slow, thought provoking, watched it first time on VHS rental in the early to mid 80's. One to lose a Sunday afternoon with, on the sofa, comfort food, few beers. Of course I'll have to get the book now too.
One film I bloody can't get over, it's pouring powerful score has ah freedom yet adventure, creepy raw feeling to it....such as " alien, wind & the lion" papillon,ah patch of blue, planet of the apes!!!
It really is a tragedy that people can't get a full roadshow experience anymore. This was emotional experience grounded in reality that was emotional and exciting. Great work by all.
I'm and old South China Sea sailor. Though not on none of the Gunboats in the 20's, I can relate is to this film regarding our interactions with Vietnames and other people in the area in the early 70s. Many of us felt like the old China Sailors back in the day..especially in Hong Kong and Tawain!
Electrician, did many a Westpac during my career, and yeah, HK, Pusan, Singapore, it had a bit of that feel to it. Loved that they gave us back the real Navy uniform while I was in.
served 8 years as a QuarterMaster on the Enterprise and Independence...aircraft carriers...when I was a kid I saw this movie and The Last Detail with Jack Nicholson and knew I had to be apart of this adventure...what a wild 8 years lol

One of my favourites soundtracks by the master Jerry , l have played the soundtrack so many times in my life .l was lucky enough to see the sand pebbles on the big screen at NFT in 1992 . Steve McQueen best movie ..thanks fred 🤓🎵
I saw this fantastic film on the huge screen of the Ohio Theatre in downtown Canton, Ohio in 1966 and it has stayed with me a lifetime. Of course this movie wasn't the first time I recognized a Jerry Goldsmith score, they were all over the place in those early years of his career. The first Goldsmith score I was conscious of was Rio Conchos but I didn't realize how many I had missed until CDs came out and composer libraries really expended.
Aqui no Brasil esse filme se chamou O Canhoneiro Yang Tsé. Assisti no cinema do meu bairro. Maravilhoso filme, atuações e trilha de Jerry Goldsmith 🎼❤️🌹
One of the Best films, gave you a real feel for the time period. They actually filmed 2 different endings, one where McQueen lived, however it wasn't the one the kept.
Thank you, Soundtrack Fred, I own all these great Goldsmith scores on vynle and CD but it's nice being able to pull these suites up on my phone when not at home.
Absolute release of powerful emotions and senses ! Here is a musical experience on an Epic scale for an Epic motion picture; from 1966. I saw the premiere on the GIANT THEATRE WIDESREEN !! A Masterpiece of music!
I think the background to this score is that Alex North was originally assigned, but became unavailable. Goldsmith was due to score 'Grand Prix' (I'll fairly sure of that) and switched to 'The Sand Pebbles'.
Sand pebbles is great movie with special performances by Steve McQueen and Richard attenborough' beautiful photography and Jerry's special soundtrack it's his best .l was very lucky.to seen the sand pebbles on the big screen at NFT in 1992 .it was incredible experience. One of my favourites movies 🎬📽🎥
Anyone who ever wore an armed forces uniform, feel a connection to this movie, I did. When I got out of the army in 1976, people didn't care for your service, what you did, I threw my uniform into the dumpster
Steve McQueen gave a wonderful performance as the stoic world wise "China Sailor" and Candace Bergen was, for once, quite good as the basically innocent young teacher attracted to a strange, to her, and moody seaman quite out of her life experience. The early scene on the boat was very moving.
Einfach wunderbar!
