Love the channel bro! Used to be a powerlifter almost 20 years ago. Stopped working out almost entirely aside from work, bike riding and a little bit of sandbag work on and off (its been around 5 years ago). Your videos inspired me to get back into it. Been almost 3 months. Started with 75lbs and up to 150, squatting, GM's, shouldering and carries knocking on 175lbs door. Another thing ill do is weighted backpack calisthenics and homemade kettlebells using truck batteries as well as rucking. Again thank you, and ill be continuing watching you on your journey. Havent felt this motivated/excited in years!

I really appreciate your approach. Very logical and safe. I didn’t even finish the video before subscribing and purchasing a 100lb sack. It just makes perfect sense to lift sand bags. I mostly do dips pull ups and push ups. Also I do a ton of body weight air squats and weighted vest squats. I see a tremendous amount of strength and size gains from dips pull-ups and push ups. I don’t feel the same about air and vest squats. The sandbag is the piece I never knew I needed. Thank you and good luck on your journey

I actually just did a few sets of paused a2g sandbag squats today. But I was pausing in the very bottom, in the "third world squat" position. And that fried my quads. I think it may be even better for targeting your quads because you can mostly relax most of your griping muscles at the bottom and rest the weight on your lap, but your quads are still being maximally stretched under load that whole time, so they never really get a break.
@thestonecircle
@thestonecircle 2 месяца назад
Hey yeah those are really tough too! I think of the sandbag box squat as more of a hybrid between a squat and a basic lift from the lap, but regular sandbag squats always torch my quads too
@StopTheDamnTape
@StopTheDamnTape 2 месяца назад
I used to atg “stone squat” how you’re describing… utterly brutal on the quads, but also the back… great and functional brute strength building movement

@@thestonecircle when it comes to shouldering a bag and carrying it up there, is there a weight that even if it's easy for you now, it still just feels heavy? Like there's just no getting around the fact that it is heavy even if you're pretty used to it? Back in the day anything above 315 felt heavy on my shoulders. Even when I could squat 405 for reps, 300lbs on your shoulders is still heavy. Do you know what I mean?
@thestonecircle
@thestonecircle 2 месяца назад
@@ezradanger yes exactly! Even just 200 the smallest sandbag I have still takes 100% effort or I won't get it, I'm faster with ot than I used to be, but I don't think it'll ever get easier haha
@ezradanger
@ezradanger 2 месяца назад
@@thestonecircle that's what I figured. My bag just went up from 100lbs to 120lbs and it just feels so heavy that it's hard to imagine that it ever won't be heavy. But I know it actually is pretty light and I'm just still really weak, so it should eventually not feel heavy, but I was just wondering where that "always heavy" range would be. Gracias.

@@thestonecircle it definitely is, the burn you feel and how fatigued you are , theres just something about it that makes you feel like youve had a great workout , its unlike with a barbell , its more all over your body, and if you are to keep it on your legs and let your legs lift the bag without holding the bag completely and only using your arms to stabilise and make sure it doesn't fall it then takes away the load on the spine , much like a belt squat

Very smart! These las two videos reminded me of the words “position of advantage” - shi. Those words are found in the book The Dao of Capital. Capital should be thought of as a verb, because it’s the action of building up and deploying available tools to make progress. Capital is not a thing it is a process. The Dao of Capital is seeking harmony with the process, rather than chasing numbers. Two important concepts in Daosim are shi and hsing. Positional advantage (shi) through strategic positioning (hsing). Or accumulating strategic intermediate aims from which it becomes more possible and effective to arrive at the ultimate ends. The intermediate advantage is in both the tools and their strategic configuration. The sage positions himself upstream. “Go by way of places that would never occur” - Sun Tzu Now that I think about it, I notice themes from that book running through your channel. From the nature scenery you feature, to yourself retreating to the inhospitable places (the camper & sandbag lifting) to build up strong roots; like one of the most enduring life forms on earth - the conifer tree. In one of your videos you mentioned something about time and the past and the future are the same or something so whatever program one chooses is most optimal. That's not it exactly, but the way you put it was deep. Do you remember what you said or what video it was on? I've been thinking about that lately, but I don’t have time to watch them all again :)

Thank you. This is the punch line that I mangled: "Every new thing we learn leads to an equal number of new problems to solve, which means that every civilization ever, from any time period, is exactly as advanced as any other… Our ability to put in the consistent hard work required to get bigger and stronger is just as good as it's ever been for anyone else."

It's usually beneficial for most people to start around 100 pounds just to give their body time to adapt to the awkward angles and everything, but with those numbers you could probably get away with closer to 150. You might try an adjustable bag (I like Ironmind most) and start with 100 and if it's too easy add more :)

Hey that's awesome you decided to get into sandbag lifting!! For sandbag to shoulder I usually do singles with 1-2 minutes rest between reps. For carries 3-5 minutes between sets works great just because they take so much out of you. And for squats it depends on the rep scheme, 10 sets of 3 I'll do 1-2 mins rest between sets, but for 3x10 or something similar I'll wait 3-5 minutes
