I’m wondering for the sandbag to shoulder, do you pick it off the ground for every rep? And do you do both sides and then rest or just one side then rest, then do the other side?

I did push ups and sit ups today. I did 10 down 9 up. I couldn’t do the last 10 I hit failure right on the ninth rep for both exercises. I was really surprised because that’s the first time I’ve ever tried 10 down 10 up and I found it was much easier to do slow, conscious, controlled, laser focused reps. I’ve done 100 push ups a day before but never so controlled. After the first half the second half would get sloppy but today they were all premium except for that last rep lol. Even had my three year old daughter outside with me (hitting me with a stick the entire time, of course, but I was able to remain focused). Got to color with chalk between sets which was fun. Anyways I bought some canvas material off Amazon and I’m going to my moms house later this week so she can help me sew it into a 100 lb bag. I’m literally so excited to start working with it and can’t wait to see how much it humbles me haha. Been watching your videos for a couple weeks and you are the first person to really inspire me to commit to making myself stronger. I’ve tried the gym and weights but it’s so monotonous and to many people around it’s just not for me. But as soon as I saw your sandbag videos I instantly new this was for me. Reminded me of One summer when I was a kid I helped a neighbor move square hay bales and I loved it. Ive always been so fascinated by calisthenics. I’ve been dreaming of being able to do a muscle up for a while now and I will get there one day! Sorry this comment is getting way to long. Rock on brother!

Hey man! What’s the best shouldering technique for someone more explosive from the lap? I find I can pretty much explode the bag to shoulder level or higher (during high pulls) but struggle with the heaves from shoulder to chest (I have bad knees so I can’t bend the knees too much). I can bring the bag from lap to shoulder in one motion using mixed grip but wondering if that will limit me once the bag gets heavier. Appreciate it!

You’ve absolutely peaked my interest in the pike push up bro… I feel like I have no choice but to explore it as a movement/variety of movements now. Honestly it’s something I’ve barely ever experimented with and as you know I’m all about trying different shit… my left shoulder is feeling awful on pressing movements lately (I pushed too hard on the planche variations and created my own prisssooonnnn), but for sure I’ll start hitting the pikes when I’m capable 🫡 honestly man I love your long format videos, I always leave with multiple considerations for my own training and I can see from the comments I’m not the only one! I don’t need to say keep it up because I know you will anyway 🤘🤘

Hey Cody! Do you think you could do a video on your Ironmind sandbag? Also, I just ordered a copy of your book from Amazon. I’ve been lifting weights or doing some form of PT since I joined the Marines in 1997. I got into kettlebells in late 2003, back in the dragondoor days, lol! In late 2019 I got a herniated disc in my neck while doing security work overseas. Had to get cervical fusion surgery. After I recovered I bought the 80 lb Rogue sandbag with the different handles on it. That sandbag combined with a Muay Thai jump rope has been the majority of my PT since, but now I want to add the “blob” sandbags into my routine. Thanks in advance. And again, you’ve got an outstanding channel. Keep up the awesome work!

@@thestonecircle Yeah, in that regard it reminds me a bit of my "Big Sib". In my (yet very short) experience, it's always the extension in the sagittal plane that gives the most trouble, because it provides the sandbag with leverage against the lifter. Ever read the book You Are Your Own Gym by Mark Lauren?? I think you might find some knowledge in it, I bought it over a decade ago, and I find myself still returning to it. Your sandbag and bodyweight circuit training is similar to Mark's Ladders and Stappers training blocks. The Pike pushup is one of the exercises that I think is a staple to any bodyweight training. The shoulder/triceps pump and the flossing of the hamstrings are phenomenal benefits

Kudos for keeping it up without weights...sadly I would merely be able to the pushups (which I do anyways every now and then, while still going to the gym EOD: by body is getting old, I hit the dreaded 50 this year. Ugh!). Anyways - there really aren't any of the 'things' around, at least where I live for the pull-ups or the dips...shit, they don't have any sort of 'dip-equipment/machine or nothing at my gym (or anywhere else, at least that I can remember, to be honest). Great choice with the song - love that song! Keep it up. Greetings from Sweden!

idk man just do overhead press if you have access to weights. Better stability, better range of motion and no blood pooling in your head...
@thestonecircle
@thestonecircle 18 часов назад
Barbell ohp is great too! Though I'd choose pikes every time myself because I like them more. Pressing odd objects overhead is up there for me too though. I don't think one is objectively better, they're both great. Some of the best pressers of all time did both! If you haven't tried it, the feet elevated deficit pike pushup might surprise you, I actually find it more stable than an overhead press, easier to grind through reps, and the rom is similar with the deficit
@William1683BT
@William1683BT 15 часов назад
If you have blood rushing to your head in a pike position that just means your body isn’t conditioned for that Position. Now I agree if you that overhead press with a barbell or dumbbells is better than pike push ups, but I think handstand push ups against a wall in a deficit is just as good. Using parallettes or boxes to train your hands gives you a deeper range of motion than you can get with a barbell or dumbbells. You can get so deep that you can touch your hands to your shoulders with the right set up. You cant get that deep with free weights.

Bro what do you think about body recomp? Do you really need a caloric surplus to build mass?
@thestonecircle
@thestonecircle 18 часов назад
Recomp definitely works! I think the best way to do it from personal experience is to slowly bulk up to roughly 20% bf first, then maintain that and push yourself to keep getting stronger. At 20% the body won't need extra calories, because it can get that energy from the fat. I actually surprise recomped this year myself while being a bit leaner than that too. I sat at just about 160 most of the year pretty lean, and consistently looked better as the months went by, I believe I added 3-5 pounds of muscle that way if I look at everything objectively. Just shows the power of pushing yourself in the gym!
