Screw the comments, this show is awesome. A crazy Brit who's interested in learning about different cuisines to get inspiration for his own menu. Looking forward to seeing more
No she's a British Korean. 영국교포. All those American Koreans who think we still see them as Korean are wrong. This girl isn't "Korean" she's British Korean.
Seriously. Muh cultural appropriation in the form of a sandwich. If you're not Italian, you can't eat spaghetti, if you aren't Japanese, you can't eat sushi. What absolute cancer this thought process is. Instead of sharing and celebrating our cultures, let's close things off and let our prejudices fester.
I absolutely love this episode. The guy's open minded, has fun with his cooking, and willing to better understand a culture's foods and take it all the way with experimenting in the kitchen. He's like a mad scientist. This episode was a treat.
I thought the same!! And put some garlicy daikon kim chi on it. YES!!! It would need a bit of sweet sauce to balance it out. Maybe chogochujang? lol. I can't think of anything else sweet. It seems like it would need one more thing, but not sure what.
Well considering these Koreans in the video are all immigrants to HIS country I fail to see why he needs their communities approval to buy from their shops and cook their cuisine.
Did anyone else notice that this sandwich is, for all practical purposes, the same recipe for his ham egg and chips sandwich he created on his first vice video? Braised protein + pickled vegetable + fried carb for texture. Rinse and repeat.
I'm a Korean, and I love what I'm seeing. I think Korean food changes the least compared to Chinese or Japanese when it ventures out overseas, and Koreans almost always refuse to "water it down" to cater for a Western taste. While that's great for presenting Korean food as authentic as one can do, the whole spirit of sharing a meal is at its best when two cultures come together and combine the best of each other's world. There are lots of Mexican-Korean fusion cuisines in America, and they are fantastic. I think Max has done a tremendous job with the sandwich, and would love to give it a try one day.
Please don't be discouraged, I have had your ham egg and chips and anyone with some sense knows you are being entirely respectful to other cultures and kindly adopting their flavours to make gold
I am so so happy max is doing a program with munchies! ever since his ham chip and egg sandwich video, I've been cravinggggg max pissing about in his shop! great bloke
I've been thinking about this place all the time since the last time Max was on Munchies. I still need to come by one day but it's just enough out of my way where I would need to make a trip specifically to eat here.
i thoroughly enjoyed this! i love korean food and love sandwiches and so it would have be hard to miss me on this one but max is so much fun and I think the end result sounds like a really great sandwich as well
Looks like something perfect for the context of his sandwich shop. Looks like he had a lot of fun making it and it's definately a delicous sandwich. Unless kimchi isn't your thing, if so I lament for you.
I have to go to this place when I'm next in London. I've made the greatest sandwiches in existence, to my palate, when really pissed. If someone can do a far superior job and serve me a beer at the same time...I may just be in love.
