The SC - We Remember Now...It Doesn't Sound Good

C'mon along with The Sound Couple as they head back to a now familiar venue to support a wedding. It is always nice to return to a venue when it's still fresh in your memory as so many variables are removed and you can usually get up and going faster. That is true until things change. The stage was relocated to different section of the room and the stage was initially so much smaller.
We manage to work through it all and have another great gig!
The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
PreSonus UC Surface
PreSonus CDL12
PreSonus CDL18s
PreSonus 32R
PreSonus SW5E
PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
PreSonus AVB-D16
Please see our "About" for a more comprehensive list of gear we use.

Another great video. I loved your comment about the audience not realising the talent on the stage. I have had the privilege of learning from a guitar player who has played stadium gigs to 80,000 people but is also happy to play with wedding/function bands. His answer to this is that he just loves to play, regardless of the gig. Our current bass player has played major festivals with top jazz/world artists and has been on UK TV many times. Top musicians love to play, just as much as the rest of us.

My first sax mic was one of the AKG's! It was great, until it wasn't. It died several years ago.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 8 месяцев назад
These mics can do that! AKG still fixed our 20+ year old mics, which I was really surprised....they told me as long as they have the parts, they will see what they can do and they did. Good as new again!

Always great when parking is close and/or in the venue. Having a load in/load out plan saves time and let’s face it helps crew get more rest between shows. Nice work Sound Couple!

It is always interesting to watch The Sound Couple re-visit a venue where we have watched Bart and Stacy conquer previous challenges and then observe what new challenges will arise. This time, we find that a continuing problem with the sensitivity of the venue’s Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters to the characteristics of the Furman power conditioner causes serious potential stress to Bart and Stacy. Fortunately, The Sound Couple carries an a.c. adapter that allows them to lift the ground pin on the incoming power. Whatever the root of this somewhat unique problem, this same issue arose the last time The Sound Couple provided production at this downtown venue. As usual, Bart’s and Stacy’s professionalism prevailed. Another major lesson from this video is the fact that The Sound Couple convinced the personnel at the venue to add to the width of the stage. Without that addition, the band would have been cramped and this would have adversely affected their performance. The initial smaller stage would have also created issues for The Sound Couple in providing proper sound and lighting. Finally, while we hope and pray that Bart soon recovers from the injury to his arm, it reminds us that we must all be very careful to guard our health and safety at each gig. When we suffer an injury, we need to do what Bart did: seek professional help and, if necessary, physical therapy. As always, we extend a “tip-of-the-hat” to Bart and Stacy for welcoming us to attend this gig with them and learn from the experiences they encountered. The Sound Couple’s videos continue to serve as an excellent source of training for those of us who seek to improve our own performance and professionalism.

Thank you Dean! The arm is feeling much better these days, but still working on it. You continue to amaze us on being able to see things that we don't....in part because we just do it or in the moment. So thank you for adding your insights which helps all of us watching. Take care!

It always surprises me, cover bands all sing a similar list, no matter where they are in the world. I’m in Australia and my band do very much the same songs😀👍
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 10 месяцев назад
The wedding band circuit surprisingly stays pretty classic with current sprinkled in. We find it humorous when those same people are singing/dancing to the DJ portions with songs we never heard of before!

Ah, the old "It's on the list" line when confronted with song requests. I use that line as well 😂. 50% of the time it's always true 😇
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 10 месяцев назад
What guests don't always know is that the Bride/Groom pick their set lists, which can include a list of "do not play" these songs. We have still yet to figure out the best way to deal with "requests" which is probably the most annoying aspect of doing weddings....people can be terribly rude!

Great video! I am now nervous about using our power turtle we have for the ups we purchased. We run our mixer out of the 30 amp that says not GFI…so maybe it will be ok. We go in with 50 amp out with 30 to a rack distribution that has 2 30 amp circuits…🤞🤞FYI I always watch your videos for knowledge before we use things!!😂😂 thanks!
@thesoundcouple

Good luck! At least now you know if something trips, it might be related to the turtle! 😂. Cheater plug to the rescue!

My van is a Nissan NV200. I still need buy a small 8x8x7ish trailer for it, when I have all 7 subs with!
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 8 месяцев назад
We have a trailer...but we only use it when we need to. They have many advantages, but they also add complexity, harder on vehicle and gas mileage. I would get only as big as you need and make sure your vehicle can tow it well (and make sure you are in tow mode, or the gear they recommend for towing). With our van and 7x12 trailer, it can be really difficult to maintain speeds if there is a wind and the van is working really hard.

Loving the video and how you liking the new iPad I own one of the new ones the iPad Air gen 5 been a good tool to use and I used to have the iPad Air 2 but battery died and was giving me issues so I went with the new iPad Air gen 5 and for the power issues with the ups does it happen to all gfi power or some
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 10 месяцев назад
The iPad mini is doing well! However, Luminair (our lighting app), doesn't completely render well and some of the controls can require multiple touches to get it to respond. Hopefully they will fix that!

I can relate to the tennis elbow issue... and as a drummer as well it isn't very easy. I had a playing gig last weekend I forgot my compression sleeve..... had to have one of the other guys stop on the way there while I was setting up the PA to buy one or I never would've got through the gig. It's nagging and annoying, I'm almost to the point of saying enough is enough, what can be done surgically.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 10 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear that....but can relate. Therapy helped me and more recently, began acupuncture treatments which has been helpful. Unfortunately, the key is time and resting it which is not easy to do...and especially if you are a drummer.

That room orientation, stage layout 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙨. Venue rooms like this are an example of poorly executed layout ... for entertainment/sound and visuals. Instead of a stage being in the middle of the longest dimension, facing the short distance (there's only 𝙏𝙒𝙊 tables in front of the stage!!). In rooms like this, an end stage should be employed. Thus, facing toward to 𝘼𝙇𝙇 the attendees/tables, etc., are in front of the stage and sound system. Oftentimes the client has no idea when they're decision making, ... interacting with the venue. However, venue sales/event management should know better and present all the options to best serve the client and their guests.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 9 месяцев назад
We find that this setup happens a lot. Never used to be this way in years past as I remember getting frustrated when we started seeing this set up more....and then they want you to MC to the entire room. This is the first time we have had that setup in the room. Perhaps they have a new banquet manager who knows how to do things better! LOL!

What does the photographer have to do with sound. .. it to my knowledge not a thing .. they should not be bothered you with their things.. even it is a wedding... The venue should have a planner or someone to coordinate all the details of the event

We are constantly asked by the photographers who are doing videography to be able to tap into our system when it is being used for the speeches.

In addition, they sometimes want to make sure schedules match so they know what is happening for first dances, etc.
