Sorry, Father, I must disagree, it was not Cambridge, busy, university town, too active for our humble hermit/monk living in the stock of a tree. It was Aylesford, Kent. Thank you for giving us some point of reference, but most Carmelites couldn't give a fig where or if this appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Simon Stock ever took place. But, some semblance of accuracy is important even to the simplest of minds.

Can't we pray the Rosary in place of the divine office?

You can ask a priest for permission to substitute the Little Office of Our Lady for the rosary or some other pious devotion. I think there are a few other options as well, such as fasting on specific days.

@@rachelthomson1980 Glad to help. It is unfortunate that a lot of misinformation gets spread about the scapular, so I always try to help when questions are asked. There are some people who say that the two requirements for the Sabbath privilege are also for the first promise. Although well intentioned, it always hurts me to see that because it can persuade people to not wear the scapular. Trying to get as much people to wear it as possible is a good thing, and we should not put unnecessary barriers for people or add and take away promises. Anyway, that is my silly rant. God bless.
