Warning: This content is not intended for children / minors. I know this is late, however, I would like to set the record straight, if for no other reason but to get if off my chest. First, there weren't any contractual agreements, written or verbal as the school dishonestly suggested. The school administrators are actually the epitome of hypocrisy. Much to my disappointment, they turned out to be liars. Apparently, lying is not against their religious tenets. I'm never really surprised by what can be justified in the cause of religion. You'd be surprised how religious institutions get away with discrimination under the guise of religious beliefs. Despite the misleading information spread through the media by this particular school, the truth is, there weren't any contracts, morals clause , or code of conduct in place for teachers during my time of employment with the school. The school was not governed by a church, nor did they follow any particular denominational doctrine. During my time of employment with Southland, the school never imposed any views, restrictions, or expectations on employee's conduct on or off campus. Nevertheless, that did not stop them from doctoring and producing false documents to the courts. The school presented amended handbooks to the court as exhibits to support their dishonest claims that I was aware of their religious views. Southland apparently changed their handbooks as a result of my case against them, and as an after thought once I was no longer employed by them. As a result of my court case, they implemented new policies requiring teachers to sign and agree to certain moral codes. Go figure... Again, this requirement did not exist during my time of employment with the school. They tried to pass off their current handbooks / policies as the ones that were issued to me during my time of employment. Thank God, I am a very organized person, and never throw anything away. I had kept the original handbooks for the school years I worked for them, and I was able to present it to the court to show that the school had lied. I am sure Southland School wasn't expecting that monkey wrench in their evil plans. The school really stretched the truth, and got elaborate with their lies. They told the court that I was a minister for their school. Imagine that! Until the school presented this argument to the court, I was completely unaware that the school viewed me as their minister. I never applied for a minister position with the school, and was totally unaware that they held me in that capacity. The school conveniently thrust that title upon me during the court proceedings. The school also lied by stating to the courts that they gave me a chance to keep my job. They stated that they approached me several times to offer me an opportunity to keep my job, if only I repented. They are liars!!! At that time, I was a mother of five, with my sixth child on the way. Why would I refuse such an easy offer to keep my job? Repentance outweighs losing a job any day of the week. The school probably made those claims to save face with the Christian communities who believe it is Christ-like to be merciful and forgiving. How deceitful these people are! I was confused as to why they made such a harsh decision regarding my employment. I initiated contact with the administrators of the school on several occasions after they terminated me as a means to seek clarity and forgiveness. Apparently my family and I were not worthy enough for the school to extend mercy and forgiveness. To say the least, the school was not able to substantiate any of their bogus claims. On the other hand, my accounts were well documented. Yes, I did conceive three weeks prior to my wedding date. No one should have known that but God, my husband, and me. In fact the principal of the school would not have known, if he had not been so intrusive. My husband and I merely requested a meeting with the principal to announce the pregnancy and request maternity leave at a later date. Mind you, I was still very early in the pregnancy and not showing. I thought I was extending a courtesy by giving ample notice. Oh, and I was married at the time that I met with the principal to announce my pregnancy. Who in the world questions a married couple's conception date during a meeting to discuss maternity leave? Initially, when my husband and I announced the pregnancy during this meeting, the principal fell back in his chair. He had tears in his eyes, and an expression of great disappointment. He slumped back in his chair, threw his head back, and said, "We feared something like this would happen." To this day, I have no idea what he meant by that, or why that was his initial reaction to my pregnancy announcement. Only later in the conversation he decided to inquire about my conception date. In hindsight, it was as if he was searching for a reason to fire me. Why in the world did he ask me such an inappropriate question to begin with? He never questioned any of the single male employees at Southland as to whether they were engaging in premarital sex. I suppose that is because males cannot physically show evidence of sexual engagement by way of getting pregnant. Therefore, women can only be targets for this sort of unfair treatment in a work place setting. The administrators never required a life of celibacy for their single, male / female employees. Furthermore, the principal / administrators were aware of dating / premarital relationships of other employees at Southland, but never asked them, if they were engaging in premarital sex. In fact, not only did the assistant principal conceive prior to marriage, his first child was also born out of wedlock. Both he and his wife currently work there. Why was their "sin" excused? There was another employee engaged to be married, and living with her fiance. The administrators never inquired about their sleeping arrangements under the same roof. I wonder why? I guess I erred when I answered the principal's inappropriate question honestly. Perhaps, I should have lied. Apparently, in the view of this "Christian" school, lying isn't immoral. According to Southland's unfair employment practices, mercy and forgiveness is only extended to a select few, and on a case by case basis. Things aren't what they seem. Believe me, the primary reason for my termination was far from "fornication," even though the school ran with that excuse. The school attempted to hide their ugly discriminatory acts behind the ministerial exception, an exemption established by the courts to protect churches / religious organizations, basically giving them the right to make employment decisions / discriminate based on their religious precepts. Fortunately, the school's efforts to abuse this right did not prevail. I am pretty sure this school is not unique in its abusive use of religion and the law. There are too many details of this case that are too long to express here. I'll suffice it to say, this case was an emotional roller coaster for me as I began to unravel the world of a lone sinners cry against the creed of unforgiving wolves. They are wolves in sheep's clothing... leading people astray. The above mentioned accounts can be verified via court documents, sworn testimony / depositions. It is public record, if you care to verify it. This is a story of the hypocrisy that exist in Christianity.
There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself about your past. Just make sure you never give them power over your now. God has made you all The Conquerors.. Forgiveness can be offered through prayer, no one has to witness your forgiveness. It's doesn't matter if they reciprocate it or not. What matter is that you are not burdened with the choices/lies of someone else. Stay Strong my friend. Keep your testimony alive with the truth which kills the lies. The Blessing of love came from their nonsense which it is still burning bright:-) !
KAM COLORADO Thank you for your comment. I agree, "control" may have been a contributing factor as well. However, it was not the main problem. That is my opinion because they did not express their need to control me prior to me meeting my husband. Everything changed once I met him. They did not approve of my relationship, for whatever reason, and expressed that prior to the pregnancy issue.

I'm a struggling Christian. If people understand why sins are wrong before God, they wouldn't sin as much, if at all. However, everyone thinks that their brand of Christian beliefs are correct before their understanding of God/the Holy Trinity.

Thank you for your kind words.We did wind up going through a long exhausting court battle. I went in with the understanding that there would not be a big monetary pay out. I fought back for the principle of the matter. I put out a lot of money throughout the process, and was able to recover one year back pay, which was about $26,000. Not much monetarily, but more importantly the victory in my case will be used as case studies to substantiate other wrongful termination / discrimination cases. Especially, as it pertains to "Christian" organizations that abuse the "ministerial exception", which is a legal provision allowing religious organizations to make employment decision based on their religious precepts. This is all well and fine until you have hypocrites discriminating against protected classes, knowing that their religious precepts do not dictate such actions. Some of these organizations use the ministerial exception as a god hand. They are able to lie and hide behind the ministerial exception. In fact, a closer study into their dealings / operations would reveal a whole lot of hypocrisy that does not line up with their conveniently adopted beliefs. They did not prevail in my case. Long story...

They told a lot of lies to the court and did it in the name of God. Sam and I had gone to God as we do whenever we go against the Lord, and God had forgiven us as He is merciful. We try to live our lives to reflect Jesus, however, we aren't perfect. Your words really touched me. I am honored that God would use me and my family as vessels to demonstrate His love. I was firm as well for the same thing 3 months ago. I was at a great firm. Fresh out of college. I’ve dated my partner since high school and we went to the same college for about 7 years. I brought her to a company childhood cancer 5k. Next day 8am I got the call.

Abstaining from fornication was one of four conditions required of the Gentiles to be accepted into the early church by the Jerusalem Conference: “Abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well” (Acts 15:29, KJV).

"He who is without sin--cast the first stone...." (BIBLE) This couple recognized their situation, probably prayed about it, got married and went on to concentrate on raising their family. Even older people get lonely and seek companionship in this crazy world today. JESUS asks us to forgive as HE forgives us; to repent and then turn away from our sin. They did that because they are both Christians. Now they are working together to raise a family. Kudos to these human children of GOD...

Fornication is a term used in the Bible for any sexual misconduct or impure sexual activity that occurs outside of the bounds of a marriage covenant. To engage in premarital or extramarital sex, before or outside of marriage, is to sin in God's sight. That is precisely the point of Hebrews 13:4, a verse often referred to in this kind of discussion. "Marriage" and the marriage bed ... go together and are to be kept pure.
These types of so called Christians are the reason people don't believe in God and what the Bible says because people who are suppose to be a representation of that are judging people, treating people hateful, gossiping, prejudice and many other sinful behaviors they think is okay but it's not a job has no right to tell anyone who they can or cannot marry so sad.

One of the SADDEST things that is going on in the church is the world in the church a lot of people claim to be Christians but are not. The very thing that JESUS taught Nicodemus is what GOD was doing for the WORLD (John; 3;16 For GOD so loved the WORLD which includes everybody.... that HE gave HIS only begotten SON that whosoever believes in HIM would no PERISH. GOD did not pick and CHOOSE who HE would die for color has nothing to with it that is man's sick twisted view. Those Christians (and I use the term very loosely) need to reexamine what they first believed.

Godchildyes Brown... has spoken truth that I am sure this couple has already acknowledge and did what they needed to do before the Lord. No sense pointing out the "others-who-done-it-but-nothing-was-done-to-them". As Christians if we do wrong, like David we acknowledge it, and with a genuine heart, repent and move on. If lying, misappropriation, slander was done using "Christianity" as a cover, by the school, then those people have to answer ultimately to the Lord. Both sides therefore need to repent and seek forgiveness. As for the losing of the job and how they made up documents to justify a lie, yea, that's a court case that needed to be fought. Not because we call ourselves "christian" means we're pushovers with a forgiving spirit. Sorry it doesn't work so. God didn't make us stupid. You've proven what forgiveness can do by the successful raising of your family and the longevity of your marriage. May He continue to guide you with wisdom, understanding and the knowledge of Him to raise your family in His way. All the best to you all.

Be assured whatever nastiness they have hidden in their little closets, WILL SURLEY COME TO LIGHT!!! Just be patient and wait! It also explains why you have chosen to have Home Church. I cried and prayed many days during this case. It certainly was enough to turn someone away from Christianity, if they weren't already rooted. I didn't know people like that existed in the world. They lied in the name of God with a straight face. No fear...scary and demonic.
I know first hand about these church leaders. I worked in a Christian women shelter and I was married to a minister. I played the piano and lead the choir. I worked very closely with those guys with the white collar along with my ex....he was the Chaplain. So, I had a behind the scenes look into that world. And I will tell you that it aint pretty. Most of those pretenders are just that...PRETENDERS! Including my sorry ex-husband. Chile they don't even feel Convicted. That's the dangerous part. I've always wanted to marry a man of the cloth. Now, if a man comes to me carrying a Bible....I'm running like hell!!! Lol
In both the Old and New Testaments, Scripture uses fornication in a figurative sense to describe the corruption of God’s people with the sin of idolatry and unfaithfulness. Both Israel and the church are depicted as the Lord’s wife, or the Bride of Christ. I have never heard of your story before, and with all of my heart I hope I don't come across as a judgemental Christian, but God does command us all in His word to hold each other accountable in love. You say that it was a Christian school that you taught at and you were pregnant when you were engaged. It sounds like the school was wanting to uphold Biblical Godly standards for themselves and the students. I'm sure it hurt you to be exposed and fired, but what about the school and the students? What about Godly standards and respecting the Lord? The individual who told you "You had better not marry your husband" sounds crazy and controlling! I don't get that at all. But sex outside of marriage is blatant sin and there is no way around that regardless of whether you signed a purity agreement or not. They are a Christian school... I believe that the school did what was best according to their Biblical convictions and that does not mean that they are perfect human beings either. No on is. But I do believe that they were honoring God above the circumstances, which we have such a lack of now days even among us professing Christians. Most Christians don't even care that God hates fornication among many other things. It's just not important anymore... I know that God is not hanging that over your head, and if you have asked Him, then as the Bible proves, He has fully forgiven you for that as He has forgiven all of us for our confessed sins. That's where the freedom and peace will come from in being honest with ourselves about ours sins and Accepting His forgiveness for our sins. I know that what I've said is probably abrasive and does not comfort you, but it's the truth which the world hates today. I cannot comprehend how a grown adult could ever think you needed a contract to realize this. While it was wrong, all that happened. You should not have been having premarital sex and working as a Christian at a Christian school. You were a leader and example. We cannot go around shaming the name of God. Now the entire world can see how Christians are a joke living undisciplined lives. Who can take our witness serious if we are caught in our sins while professing Jesus. I'm not judging you. You needed accountability. You have a beautiful family but it's sad that it will always be tied to this exposure. Good choices are not Godly choices and we face consequences for them.
Hello, Lona! I am sorry you have come to this conclusion regarding the circumstances of my case without knowing the facts, and details. First, there weren't any contractual agreements, written or verbal as the school dishonestly suggested. I was hired as a school teacher. Therefore, I was working in the capacity of a teacher at an organization that called themselves a "Christian School." In fact when I was hired they knew that I did not attend, or have a home church. At no point during my tenure with the school did they ever indicate that my responsibilities were beyond that of a school teacher. SCS never outlined behavioral expectations for teachers on, or off campus. Upon hiring me, they certainly did not express in any way that my personal life would be on display, or used to set as an example to students and parents. They LIED profusely to the courts, even going as far as to produce fabricated documents, and forged signatures. While I do strive everyday in my life to be more like Christ, I am not perfect, nor is any "Christian." We all fall short...Do you feel you are not worthy of employment because you are not perfect? At any rate, since you brought up the matter of being a Christian leader, and example, do you feel the administrators at Southland Christian School should be held to a higher standard? The school administrators are actually the epitome of hypocrisy. Much to my disappointment, they turned out to be liars. Apparently, lying is not against their religious tenets. You mentioned, "shaming the name of God." Well, they lied specifically in the name of God. I'm never really surprised by what can be justified in the cause of religion. You'd be surprised how religious institutions get away with discrimination under the guise of "religious beliefs." Despite the misleading information spread through the media by this particular school, the truth is, there weren't any contracts, morals clause , or codes of conduct in place for teachers during my time of employment with the school. The school is not governed by a church, nor did they follow any particular denominational doctrine. During my time of employment with Southland, the school never imposed any views, restrictions, or expectations on employee's conduct on or off campus. Nevertheless, that did not stop them from doctoring and producing false documents to the courts. The school presented amended handbooks to the court as exhibits to support their dishonest claims that I was aware of their religious views. Southland apparently changed their handbooks as a result of my case against them, and as an after thought once I was no longer employed by them. They even implemented new policies requiring teachers to sign and agree to certain moral codes. Go figure... Again, these requirements did not exist during my time of employment with the school, and was only precipitated by my case against them. They tried to pass off their current handbooks / policies at the time as the ones that were issued to me during my time of employment. They continued to lie to the court with a line up of demonic teachers, and assistant principal who also lied on their behalf. Thank God, I am a very organized person, and never throw anything away. I had kept the original handbooks for the school years I worked for them, and I was able to present it to the court to show that the school had lied. I am sure Southland School wasn't expecting that monkey wrench in their evil plan. The school really stretched the truth, and got elaborate with their lies. They told the court that I was a minister for their school. Imagine that! Until the school presented this argument to the court, I was completely unaware that the school viewed me as their minister. I did not sign up for that. However, the school conveniently thrust that title upon me during the court proceedings. The school also lied by stating to the courts that they gave me a chance to keep my job after they fired me. They stated that they approached me several times to offer me an opportunity to keep my job, if only I repented. Liars!!! At that time, I was a mother of five, with my sixth child on the way. Why would I refuse such an easy offer to keep my job? Repentance outweighs losing a job any day of the week. The school probably made those claims to save face with the Christian communities who believe it is Christ-like to be merciful and forgiving. Oh my, how deceitful these people are! I was the one confused as to why they had made such a harsh decision regarding my employment. I was the one who initiated contact with the administrators of the school on several occasions after they terminated me as a means to seek clarity and forgiveness. Apparently my family and I were not worthy enough for the school to extend mercy and forgiveness. To say the least, the school was not able to substantiate any of their bogus claims. On the other hand, my accounts were well documented.
Yes, I did conceive three weeks prior to my wedding date. No one should have known that but God, my husband, and me. In fact the principal of the school would not have known, if he had not been so intrusive. My husband and I merely requested a meeting with the principal to announce my pregnancy and request maternity leave at a later date. Mind you, I was still very early in the pregnancy and was not showing. I thought I was extending a courtesy by giving ample notice. Oh, and I was married at the time that I met with the principal to announce my pregnancy. Who in the world questions a married couple's conception date during a meeting to discuss maternity leave with an employer? Initially, when my husband and I announced the pregnancy during this meeting, the principal fell back in his chair. He had tears in his eyes and an expression of great disappointment. He slumped back in his chair, threw his head back, and said, "We feared something like this would happen." To this day, I have no idea what he meant by that, or why that was his initial reaction to my pregnancy announcement. They both went on to rave about my outstanding performance as a teacher, and how this situation (pregnancy) had put them in a "really bad position." Mr. and Mrs. Ennis stated that with their small school, it was too difficult to cover teachers while they are on maternity leave. They repeatedly stated, "Our hands are tied here." They also reminded me of the difficulty they had with finding coverage for another teacher who went out on maternity leave prior. They stated, "We made a decision after Mrs. James that the next teacher that turned up pregnant would have to take the entire year off after the birth of the baby." When I inquired about coming back on board after that year penalty, they responded by saying, "If something comes available..." Only much later in the conversation he decided to inquire about my conception date. In hindsight, it was as if he was searching for a reason to fire me. Why in the world did he ask me such an inappropriate question to begin with? He never questioned any of the single male employees at Southland as to whether they were engaging in premarital sex. I suppose that is because males cannot physically show evidence of sexual engagement by way of getting pregnant. Therefore, women can only be targets for this sort of unfair treatment in a work place setting. The administrators never required a life of celibacy for their single, male / female employees. Furthermore, the principal / administrators were aware of dating, and premarital relationships of other employees at Southland, but never asked them, if they were engaging in premarital sex. In fact, not only did the assistant principal conceive prior to marriage, his first child was also born out of wedlock. Both he and his wife currently work there. Why was their "sin" excused? There was another employee engaged to be married, and living with her fiance' while I was working there. The administrators never inquired about their sleeping arrangements under the same roof. I wonder why? I am absolutely sure that the administrators of SCS simply did not approve my husband prior to the pregnancy announcement. When my husband and I were engaged to be married, they interrogated me and warned me against marrying him, specifically stating, "You better not marry him." Funny thing is, they were trying to set me up with a single black teacher at the school, and became agitated with him because he wasn't putting the moves on me fast enough. I allowed God to choose my mate, not them. It seems I also made a mistake when I answered the principal's inappropriate question honestly. Perhaps, I should have lied. Apparently, in the view of this "Christian" school, lying isn't immoral. Mr. and Mrs. Ennis deliberated for a week before they made a final decision to terminate me. I worked the whole week on pins and needles awaiting their final decision. After terminating me, they had a staff meeting and told the entire staff that I had been terminated, and shared the details of my pregnancy and conception date with them. They went even further by calling all of the parents to my fourth grade students to inform them of my employment termination, and shared private details of my conception with them as well. According to Southland's unfair employment practices, mercy and forgiveness is only extended to a select few, and on a case by case basis. Things aren't always what they seem. Believe me, the primary reason for my termination was far from "fornication," even though the school ran with that excuse. The school attempted to hide their ugly discriminatory acts behind the ministerial exception, an exemption established by the courts to protect churches / religious organizations, basically giving them the right to make employment decisions / discriminate based on their religious precepts. Fortunately, the school's efforts to abuse this right did not prevail. I am pretty sure this school is not unique in its abusive use of religion and the law. There are too many details of this case that are too long to continue expressing here. I'll suffice it to say, this case was an emotional roller coaster for me as I began to unravel the world of a lone sinners cry against the creed of unforgiving wolves. They are the sheep in wolves clothing...not the upstanding Christian School you might think they are. The above mentioned accounts can be verified via court documents, sworn testimony / depositions. It is public record, if you care to verify it.
