The one thing that never gets mentioned except by local TV is how Caitlin works tirelessly to insure that she inspires young girls. Maravich ALSO averaged 38.1 shots per game, compared to 19.6 shots per game for Caitlin. So she needed exactly HALF the attempts to score more points than Maravich. That stat makes HER record much more impressive to this objective viewer. As for the "there was no 3 point line in HIS day" argument, not Caitlin's fault. I value a 3-pointer ten times more than an easy layup. Also, in future, when both NCAA and NBA introduce a 4-point line, we can then argue how many MORE points CAITLIN would have....had the NCAA had the 4-point line in HER day--since she often shoots the ball from Mexico City. @@barbarakauppi9915 I think the NBA is dull because the way people grow up playing ball today. You used to get beat down by older kids and have to work your way up on the playground, there was always some old guy who could take you apart until you got old enough to challenge the best. Now with organized ball separating kids from older competition, and AAU ball, these kids think they are stars and become primadonnas at age 8 on up, thinking they are the best that has ever been. Back in the day they would still be getting taken to the woodshed by older, bigger, stronger, faster player. Now they separate by age from the get go and these little kids actually think they are stars. This mindset filters all the way up to the NBA.

@leeboy7139
@leeboy7139 Месяц назад
@DaryMatera : Except for Becky Hammond, the average WNBA coaches make 1/10 the amount of money of the 25th highest paid NCAA women's coach. If the WNBA coaches were better, they would be coaching at a top 25 college, not in the WNBA. Why pay someone $750,000 a year when you can get a "better" coach for $75,000 a year. Better yet, why coach someplace for 1/10 of the money you would get from someplace else. And just because a coach played in the NBA, it doesn't mean he's a good coach. On top of that, many, if not most of the top 25 NCAA women's coaches, played in the WNBA or were assistance coaches in the NBA. Again, Becky Hammon was the first WNBA coach to receive a million dollar contract and she immediately won back to back championships: the first in 21 years. If that's not enough evidence to convince you that the WNBA lacks high-level coaches, I don't know what else will so it' doesn't matter to what your opinion is.

Wait, “Pistol Pete” only played 3 seasons at LSU and had no three point line! Record shows that if there was a line, he would average 13 threes a game making his overall average 57 points per game. He played only 83 games in college. Let’s just say the three point line was present during just 3 seasons of his college career. He would have had roughly 4731 points. Caitlin played 135 games and made 3830 points in 4 years. Pete playing 135 games even with no three point line would roughly be around 5967 points. (Not including three point) But for the fun of it let’s include the three point average in 135 games. Pete playing 135 games with a three point line. Pete’s rough total points would be 7695. Caitlin 135 games - 3830 points Pete 135 games - 7695 points Caitlin is a great player and fun to watch and did break the record. But let us not compare the greatness of Pete Maravich to the greatness of Caitlin Clark. I hope she changes the game of women’s basketball for the better.

Women's basketball is a separate game, should not be counting men's records as broken as it is , this doesn't diminish the women's game to acknowledge they are played very differently . It's great that the NCAA women been getting more attention, hopefully it translates to the WNBA and higher pay for players there. Not saying they should get what men get since the profits of the leagues are so different, but that the NIL deals are often preferable says something.

It's true for the most part. The 90's developed a weird playstyle because of the zoning rules. Once he was gone it became apparent the game had evolved in a somewhat boring direction relative to the free flowing 80's.

So you liked those 78-76 Pistons vs. Bulls bully ball games? Come on. You can get enough of the at the college level. One year under Herb Sendrek Arizona State University in the Pac 12 scored 8 points at halftime. Twice!

@@DaryMatera You have a problem with low scoring games? I watched Basketball before the shot clock and yes I do enjoy them. Growing up there was a local HS team that won a game where the score was single digits till the 4th quarter, they liked to play a slow down game and the opposing teams let them because they could not out run them as they showed by scoring over 100 points. I loved the run and shoot games of Loyola Marymount as well. The game that is played now is very boring and I can't watch it at all.

@@todallard8791 Big problem. You recall the dreaded "four corners" offense pre-shot clock era that slowed the game down to a crawl. Dribbling around for five minutes before even attempting a shot? I remember a classic game between Duke and NC State that ended 21-20. I think another that season was like 12-10. The fans booed the entire game. Everybody hated that. NCAA instituted a shot clock shortly thereafter. Those AZ State games when AZ State scored 8 in a half were atrocious to watch. I remember being at one game between AZ State and a high ranked UCLA team where most of the fans left at halftime. UCLA didn't have a big lead either. But the score was something like 22-16. Horrible basketball.

I love watching our Hawkeye women every game. Caitlin's success seems to be the best when she misses her first few 3's. Once she hits one, that is all it takes for her to keep hitting them, and by that point, she's already feeding her teammates for assists. She can't be guarded very easily. Watching the looks on the faces of defenders who've been given the task of guarding her will look at their coach with their arms questioning what they should try next because whether she's putting up a logo 3 or going straight down the court to the basket, she can stop or spin on a dime leaving defenders wondering how to defend her. I will miss her next season, but I think our team is still going to be competitive with the new recruits coming in. We still have Syd, Taylor, Kylie, and especially Hannah!! If we can continue to bring in players who are willing to give assists as well as score, Iowa could continue to be dangerous.

Iowa has had girls basketball since at least 1920. In fact assistant Iowa coach Jan Jensens grandmother was Iowa all-state. They played 6 on6. Remember Hoosier movie when all the cars lined up to go to games? Yeah that was going to girls games. More popular than boys. One young woman Denise Long from Union Whitten Iowa scored 100 points in 1 game. She was drafted by Golden State. 1990s 6 on 6 was phased out. It didn't help the women get college scholarships. It was the small rural schools that led girls sports whether basketball, softball etc. The larger schools like Des Moines had to play catch up. By the time Caitlin comes along Dowling is participating and divisions had to be created. But there's never bèen pee wee or kids league for girls. Recognizing his daughters competitive nature he got her on the boys teams. Her work ethic is incredible. She's fun to watch. Caitlin's draft class is very talented, and the class behind the 24 draft is just as impressive with Paige Bueckers. This is a shot across the bow to the elder states women of 15+ years in the league. The "W" needs to make room for the newer generation, like the NBA does. That's not gonna sit well with some of those players who SHOULD leave the league to playout the rest of their careers overseas.
