Yes, along with anxiety and OCD. The problem was that I came to see myself as depressed and only depressed, overriding anything else I could possibly be. I was told I couldn't have gender dysphoria, because it was just depression. I came to believe I couldn't be autistic, because my social difficulties were just depression. As a result, I didn't figure those things out or get diagnosed until I was an older adult.

Hey Sci Guys! So, prefacing this by saying: completely agree that men are just underdiagnosed and likely it’s more that socialization leads to the gender gap in diagnosis. Just a wild fun fact I thought y’all’d enjoy. While Corry’s right it would be silly if men were biologically less depressed: testosterone DOES actually act as a natural antidepressant. Folks on testosterone HRT commonly have to lower their dose of any preexisting antidepressants & anti-anxiety meds starting treatment. This happens in a way that is not linked to hrt overall. Apparently it’s common to get a bit manic on your preexisting doses but i’d never heard about it. Then, started T and got a little more giggly than intended. Like, too happy is an experience you apparently can have which is wild to me and wild this interaction isn’t especially well known. Being absolutely stoked for a prolonged period of time is not unpleasant exactly, but was very strange in my experience. Was surprised when my I told my prescriber and she acted like this was common knowledge. Thought you’d enjoy!

Something I learned recently, you can be diagnosed with major depressive disorder & dysthymia at the same time when it lasts over 2 years. I had never heard of dysthymia before earlier this year when I was evaluated by a neuropsychologist but I've been fighting major depressive disorder since I was in elementary school.

Please do an episode on horny mode! I've struggled on and off with depression since I was a teenager but one of the worst periods of depression I went through was caused by an irrational stupid decision I made due to being horny which basically screwed up my whole life and the time and completely wasn't worth it but I wasn't thinking straight because of the horn! Why are we like this?!?!
