Security cameras typically have an IR filter that physically moves in front of the sensor during daylight hours. You aren't going to make any progress by increasing the wattage of IR. To blind the camera during daylight hours you will need visible light.

Only one problem...if u use this to block toll road cameras it will automatically alert police when it can't read your tag!

Using higher wattage, higher output IR led's would NOT make any real difference as you are competing with regular daylight or extreme bright light of a regular normal day. The best effect you could achieve would likely resemble what your obtained result was with the IR cancelled during the night shot with the IR led's just faintly glowing around the plate frame. Further additional work is required to obtain a suitable method for blocking the photo during the day. As another person commented using visible light would SEEM the proper solution, but in recent days perhaps during the last couple of years, the agencies that are taking the photos can adjust for resolute clarity with various post editing means to obtain a clear plate reading and send you a bill. It is the classic cat and mouse scenario, or black hat versus white hat hacker. Good luck with your mission.

How many leds needed for this to work. In my case i can only put 2 leds which will be placed on the screws that holds the plate. Will this work?

I’m not a good solder but I would try to make a necklace along with glasses and spots for my shoes to cover my body from head to two in light making me look like a star walking into a building. Wouldn't the IR detection just turn off during the day? The camera I have at home automatically switches to IRNV only when the visible light isn't enough to see with; I don't see why speed cameras would be any different.

What leds are u using for the upgrade? Im making a 3d print design for both the glasses and number plate, would love to know what leds to measure out for the number plate

in fact all camera are ir camera but they put a filter for ir. but you can remove it

It's too bad you didn't understand how license plates work. All plates in the US have retro-reflective paint used for the background. You should look it up.

In NY they use flash strobes at night, NOT infrared! This is useless

Instead of spending time and money making one of these (which is probably illegal anyway) just remember this, if you get a camera ticket, go to court and demand to have a trial. The state has to prove you guilty. Since there was no police officer who witnessed the “crime” who can the state subpoena to testify against you?? 🤷‍♂️
