Hello, my brother in Christ. I am a new Christian and learning all of this on my own. Your video is invaluable and I truly appreciate the time you took to film this. I especially like the part where you say "you may not agree with the commentary and that only the scripture is inspired by God". I was looking into a study Bible to help me to understand God's Word, but I found myself disagreeing with a lot of the commentary. What you said made me feel totally understood. Your video has taught me a lot. I can sense God's love in you. Thank you so much for this.

When I gave up Dispensationalism, about 35 years ago, I stopped using the Old Scofield Reference Bible and stuck with the Thompson Chain I also owned. I ended up giving my Scofield away. Interestingly, I had occasion to use a Pentecostal friends Old Scofield and realized it has good things that I wanted to have again. So, that brought me to your video. I'll probably purchase a full yapp Scofield from Church Bible Publishers next month. AA far as Majority Text versus the Critical Text, I am definitely a Majority Text man. The various editions of the TR or Textus Receptus form a subset of the Majority Text. Because I know about various manuscript families, and the differences in TR editions, some KJV Only readers will argue with me because I use the NKJV translation as well as the KJV, and I use the Coverdale Psalter, which is translated from the TR and precedes bother the Geneva and KJV translations. A translation is not infallible in the same sense as the original autographs in the original language. Erasmus, who translated the first few editions of the TR said as much. So did the translators of the KJV. C. I. Scofield says the same thing. So, even though I am a Majority Text man, I am KJV preferred rather than KJV only. A big problem with the Critical Text is that it combines two ancient texts that don't agree in some passages. Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus are independent texts. No one in antiquity used a hybrid text derived from those two manuscript families. I do own an ESV Study Bible, but more for the study notes than for the translation. For a modern translation, I use the NKJV. The apparatus lets the reader know in the margins how the Vulgate, Majority Text, Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, the Targums, and etc., differs from the TR. So, no need to own a Critical Text translation for its own sake. I won't use the 1967 Scofield, or the addition that came afterwards, because the 1917 edition was the first Study Bible I ever owned. But, since languages change, I see nothing wrong with updating a translation as long as the translation is accurate. The reason the Anglican Church produced the KJV is because its predecessor, the Bishop's Bible, was hastily translated by clergy who didn't want the Geneva Bible translation because of its commentary. Several passages in the Bishop's Bible were translated so badly that the passages didn't make any sense. It took a generation for the KJV translation to catch on because the Puritans preferred the Geneva Translation. I think those who are KJV only are like the Christians who didn't want to give up their beloved Geneva translation. So, I can recommend the NKJV. However, I do have reservations when it comes to the ESV. The above, of course, is my conclusion, and you can certainly disagree with me. 🙂 I do enjoy your videos.

Any bible is worth it. In the case of the Scofield Bible just never read the footnotes and don't go to a dispensational church. Take my word; it messed me up for several years and it will mess you up also.

I have to disagree with you saying that you will not agree with everything in a study Bible….I have in addition to the Scofield Bible a King James Study Bible Full Color Edition published by Thomas Nelson and I agree 100% with the study notes in it. The only thing in the Scofield Bible is that I disagree with his belief on the Gap Theory as stated in this notes in reference to Genesis 1:1 and 1:2

The best way to study the bible is to buy one with just a plain text and then use other study materials alongside your bible. One of the dangers of study bibles is that the reader can inadvertently read the notes with the same authority as the scripture itself. Dispensationalism was spread through the Scofield bible.

I can’t understand why a Christian who doesn’t agree with some of CI Scofield’s notes would continue to keep his Reference Bible. Take the case of well known pastor John MacArthur whose ESV (a faulty English translation by the way) Reference Bible says the blood of Jesus doesn’t have any efficacy value, only His death on the cross. That blasphemous statement led me to trash his Reference Bible.
@faithtowalkministries132

The Scofield doesn’t have totally gross notes as the MacArthus one. I agree and one of the reasons I didn’t get one.
@Landis_Grant
@Landis_Grant 7 месяцев назад
@@faithtowalkministries132 The Scofield Reference Bible is Zionist infused. His financial backers were part of the world’s ruling elites at that time. I dare say they were Nephilim (part fallen angel and part human) as evidenced by Scofield’s nonsensical comment of Genesis Chapter 6’s “giants” (including Nimrod) as the children of the good sons of Seth and the evil daughters of Cain. How did their children become giants?
@EveretteMoon

I use a KJV Scofield Bible and I’m Amillennial when it comes to eschatology. I obviously don’t agree with his notes on Premillennialism, but he has a lot of good insight when it comes to one’s walk with the Lord.
