This lecture, given Nov 9, 2022, to the Flint Institute of Arts, one of the Sheppy Dog Lectures, offers a summary of the Shapira "Dead Sea Scroll," discovered in the 1860s on the east side of the Dead Sea--subsequently dismissed as a forgery by most European scholars leading to the tragic death of Moses Shapira. We now have new evidence to believe the leather strips that Shapira bought from the Bedouin in 1878 were in fact genuine ancient manuscripts. Unfortunately, the "strips" are now lost--but we have high hopes of finding them. Here is the very latest on the scrolls, their backstory, and how our Quest is going to recover them and have them tested scientifically for date and provenance. I am honored to have been part of this distinguished lecture series--and that it is dedicated to the beloved dog of the patron, Dr. Alan Klein, makes it all the more special!
