In this video we go in the search for the secret of Anglesey, the Norman fortress Castell Aberlleiniog (Castle of the Mouth of the Lleiniog), which is a little known scheduled ancient mounument on the Isle of Anglesey area of natural beauty. This secret castle of Aber Lleiniog was a motte and bailey fortress whose construction was overseen by Robert of Rhuddlan on behalf of Hugh D'Avranches of Chester in around 1088. The Prince of Gwynedd Gruffydd ap Cynan along with his raiding party of 120 men and 14 youths succeeded in burning the castle to the ground in around 1094. The Aberlleiniog Norman fotress was never to be a motte and bailey castle again. Some 500 years later, in around 1640, the castle was resurrected by Thomas Cheadle the Constable of Beaumaris who adapts the motte of Aberlleiniog. Aberlleiniog truly is a 'secret' castle, with many secrets still to be uncovered.
The Aberlleiniog Castle walk starts out from a small free car park, marked as Aberlleiniog Castle car park on Google Maps, in the village of Llangoed. From there we take a walk through the peaceful woodland Nature Reserve up to free to enter Castle Aberlleinoig. After exploring the castle we take take a walk to Lleiniog beach. Here we get super over to the Snowdonia mountain range and the Menai Straits.

It's a great idea to do a hike in search of a secret fortress. I was captivated by the natural sounds and scenic views throughout the entire hike. I wasn't going to add any narration cos of all that woodland bird chatter I had for company so kept it to a minimum. It was a hermit friendly walk because I don't think the rabble know about it. They're all off to Beaumaris Castle a mile up the road. I believe they're still uncovering new things about this castle and it wasn't easily accessible until recently when the boardwalks were put in place. First of all, love the sound of nature, the birds chirping, and other animals, the stream, and the footsteps, so peaceful, and so relaxing. Then your video clips, and narration is so informative. nice trail to the Castle ruins. Like that stunning view of the Snowdonia mountains from the rocky beach. the story of the Castle is very interesting, that's why I watched the entire video. great job!👍👍👍😍😍😍

Hi Christine, I thought I would go check it out on my way home from Anglesey. It certainly was a peaceful hermit friendly walk thot the woods. The old castle is still well preserved. I think a little bit of desolation and dullness is the charm of the castle.😍😍 The surrounding environment seems to be the same as the old background.. Thank you for your hard work.^^💖💖
