I want this and the Highlander.

They deleted most of it because they needed storage space or similar reasons, they would never let this have happened if they knew how big the show would actually be one day

You do realise that the show wasn't as big as it is nowadays? It's called time pal. Obviously they lost most of it considering they didn't really care about the show

I have a feeling that was very much intentional. I remember reading somewhere that, when writing this script, the writers were very cognizant to make sure that the whole idea of renewal wouldn't be played off with "a wink and a nod" (as I believe it was put)

Nope I'm pretty sure this idea has been removed entirely from the continuity

It would explain why the Doctor prefers to regenerate inside the control room, despite the damage the release of ARTRON energy does to the console.

It does not seem to be removed from canon as much as it has not ever been mentioned again. I am half, and half on if that would be a cool idea or not. It certainly would fit as almost every regeneration, save 4, 7, and 8 were in the Tardis. There is something about the Doctor having such a symbiotic relationship with the Tardis, both being organic species possessing time related, and regenerative abilities, that is pretty neat to me.

As pointed out by others, the fact that the Doctor keeps coming back to the TARDIS to regenerate even if it causes a lot of damage hints that it's doing _something._ Also, the few times that he doesn't, either he needed help elsewhere (K'anpo Rimpoche, The Watcher, the Sisterhood of Karn) or something wrong happened (Eight)

I've always imagined it's the Doctor's senses organising themselves as he's suddenly got brand new eyes and ears they're in shock at being switched on so to speak

out of curiosity, is there any reason you want massacre 4 specifically?

@@AesherYT the great second half of the episode, it has the best doctor and steven scene and also the doctor s speech when he decides to leave

@@AesherYT its like the scene from fires of pompeii but the doctor is still too "young" to learn that lesson, its by pure coincidence that anne chaplet survived

The audio was recorded by fans and pictures (telesnaps) were quite common to take. Dr who was quite lucky compared to other 60s shows!

It's not lag. The BBC destroyed or re used a bunch of film reels thinking that no one would be interested in "This old rot just laying about". A lot of the early Dr. Who episodes were lost to that clean out before they figured out that there was quite a cult following for the series. Some of the 1st and early 2nd Doctor (B+W) episodes only have remnants of video left with the full audio. So the videos sometimes consist of what frames and footage survived with just the sound. There has been an effort of some youtubers to animate the gaps to complete the video segments as best they can.

This is a missing episode recreated by dialogue and old stills.
