A lot of people dismiss video games as a waste of time, and don't consider games to be an art. While I understand there are advantages to other art forms, I think video games can be powerful story-tellers. Specifically, video games can communicate themes in a powerful way. Let's see how!

It took me reaching rock bottom, the absolute darkest part of my life so far... to finally learn to appreciate things. I used to play games but I never understood them, I never looked deeper, I just want to play games that were fun. But now I'm obsessed with all these heartfelt deeply emotional games, not even just the games, but their developments, a lot of games were made just to be fun, but so much emotion is poured into the development process, TUNIC for example. It's my favourite game and while the gameplay isn't very heartfelt, it's development was. When I decided to give Undertale another go a couple years ago, that's when I decided I wanted to become a game developer. It was such an amazing game, while it's main grabbing point is the characters, I was only interest in myself, the player, and how game was communicating to me personally. A lesson on determination and never giving up even when it seems like you have no other options, to stay true to yourself and just push through. That lesson was enforced by the fact that Toby Fox, who except for half of the art, managed to make a masterpiece of a game by himself, I didn't know it was possible. And then I got to thinking about all these games i had been playing recently, they're all so packed with love and self-expression... I realised that maybe this is something I could do too. I had some stuff that I could finally get off of my chest, I suck and talking to people or explaining how I feel so perhaps I could just show them instead through the art of video games. I have so many emotions I want to share. So yeah, now I'm currently learning game development. I don't yet trust I can make my own game so I'm recreating other games to learn the process but Im hoping sometime early next year I can finally begin my first piece.

Yes! It's easy to forget sometimes in our world today, but art can be super powerful, and that includes games! In my experience making art can be a great way to express emotions and ideas, even heavy ones. Good luck on both your emotional and game design journey! ❤️

You touched upon some great 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘴 in this video. There's so much more to a game's narrative than just the lore being told in writing to the player. Really awesome to see comparisons being drawn between games that look so unrelated, like Minecraft and Hollow Knight. I also don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce Mojang like a hispanic version of Mahjong, but that doesn't detract from your topic :) All in all, great stuff!

Thanks for the kind words! As for Mojang, I was trying to over dramatically mispronounce it as a joke, because I see people mispronounce it a lot

If someone tells me they don't look at games as an art form, I'd have to ask them if they look at Architecture as an art form. Game design and Architecture are both forms of art, it's just that most people don't have enough math comprehension to see how they can be. The simple media is ALWAYS easy to appreciate, but the low-IQ masses will always be dumbfounded by the high-level arts. =\
