Huh... Look at that. This video gained traction out of nowhere. Normally, I would just quietly put my nose to the grindstone, but since this video is more than a year old and the only video on this channel, I just wanted to quickly say that I'm working on another video right now that is currently in the research phase. you know what's sadder? Colourists almost never get the recognition or the remuneration they most times deserve. Their department is the least paid one in the whole industry. This just has to change.

The thing I have always find amazing with Studio Ghibli is how the plot is just a peace of the story, not the whole story. The animation, the colors, the music, the dialogue and the plot, all of these things tell a story, and when combined they form a masterpiece. When I here the scores for any Ghibli film I see a story, same with just the animation and the colors, I don’t need more.

As an illustrator myself I love color and its meaning, but saying grayscale and black and white is boring couldn't be further from the truth and honestly pretty ignorant. When you can't depend on color the you have to use rely on value which is an artform of itself

I've never really considered how colour contributed to the telling of a story. Of course, I always thought the studio ghibli colour palette looked great but I never questioned what it meant. Thank you for shedding a light on the individuals, like Michiyo Yasuda, who was responsible for the splendid colour of these movies, I now have a new appreciation of what they do.

I wish you were my art teacher I had- have a lot of trouble with color theory. But I love Miyazaki movies and story telling . Watching them has really helped me learn so much about my own work and why I choose the colors I do and how they make people feel.

The colors in studio ghibli are really awesome :'> I haven't watched all studio ghibli films yet, but for me the colors in the grave of fireflies convey the most emotions, like the mannnn the colors of that movie and literally everything about it broke my heart into pieces 😭

Great analysis! One thing I would disagree slightly with though is your interpretation of the meaning of Nausicaa's blue outfit. I would argue that it actually is meant to signify Nausicaa's character and her relationship with the forsest, as well as foreshadowing the end of the film when her clothes are literally soaked in blue Ohmu blood. Blue is a colour traditionally seen as calm, gentle, and peaceful; all traits Nausicaa uses at the film's climax. Her blending in and becoming a part of the forest also indicates visually to the viewers that she is in a way one with the forest; comfortable and intimate with it. She moves through the forest world as a part of it, instead of storming through like Princess Kushana who stands in stark contrast to the forest in her bright gold and white armour, a colour that, not so coincidentally, more closely matches the dead and dry landscape of Acid Lake and the desert. Regions that have been destroyed and are yet to be reclaimed by the forest. You also see this same contrast with Asbel, who flies a bright red ship when he attacks the fleet, and the Pejitians, who also engage in the same senseless violence Nausicaa is trying to stop. You make a great point about the importance of colour in Ghibli films, but I feel like this topic requires a much longer video to analyze properly; there is so much thought and depth put into it; you've really kickstarted my brain 🤯

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die". BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again". And love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, or struggling or doubtful, simply be honest and tell Him that. He is not intimidated by ANY sin or struggle you are facing. ANY. He hears and will answer. If we pray for Him to come in, regardless of the condition, then He will. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Yes ! Color really is overlooked when analysing characters despite being often chosen with great care.

Wait, you make only one video? What a waste of talent. I'm expecting for something more story telling about animation. Maybe soething different storytelling cause your channel name is Slice of Storytelling and storytelling can be about everything. I'm just starting with coloring and what I mean that I'm use color properly to blend with characters. About background maybe later, but I will work for it too.

You're on the right track but your ideas are scattered and the sections of your essay don't segway very well. Consider removing reductive statements you make to the contrary of the point you support. It's not an argument, play the strengths and give detail. Your points feel overly brief and it feels like the ideas wander off before they're complete.

Storytelling with color is amazing. One great example is in re:zero. There’s an episode where one character shares a story with another. The use of color there is phenomenal.
