The secret Darkstalkers character you've never heard of. 

Unexplained secret characters like these really add to the horror vibe of this game. Such a cool easter egg.

They added achievements for using Shadow and Marionette (from the Japan exclusive games) to the fighting collection. Heck for Shadow you have to use him for three full arcade runs to 100% the collection. I love it when you find secret characters in old games. It was just the devs having fun with their games.

Shadow has always been one of the most unsettling characters in a fighting game. Really creepy victory theme and possession noise, turns the character it leaves into stone, etc. Sometimes, the best horror is the horror that explains itself.

this game still looks great, the colors, designs, animations, backgrounds. its timeless

A character less known, because he's only in a Japanese PS2 exclusive is Dee. I forgot how to unlock him though. Dee is a non-canon character, being Donovan if he became completely a vampire.

Shadow is such an interesting character, so much lore speculation. The secret character of VSAV2 & VHUNT2, Marionette, is also cool, even though she’s just a glorified mirror match inducer. A sequel where both become actual characters with lore would be awesome. So much sequel potential. Fun is the key word to the Darkstalkers series and you’ve shown how fun it can be! Thank you!

There is also the Marionette, which is slightly different from Shadow. I think it takes over the player before the round begins.

I cant believe I've never heard of Shadow before All the DS love just shows how much people like this game and want to see the characters again. I wish capcom would make a new one and do it with their own take on the guilty gear style of anime character models.

you should see if the game also has Marionette it acts similarly by hovering over random select but you hit select 7 times and then a punch or kick button

I was expecting seeing marionette too, both are kinda creppy but cool, i loved that the color edition tool in the ps1 version also let you edit shadow and marionette sprite colors :D

I think it was missed opportunity in not making Shadow work as intended in online matches. Going around and “stealing the soul” of your last defeated opponent sounds like a fun little meta game to me.

Playing as essentially dead characters, possessed and discarded by another entity always stresses me out. This guy was always creepy as hell to me as a teenager, and that laugh. I can't stand it!

God I wish they'd bring this series back.

I thought I knew a bit about darkstalkers til I got this collection. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover so many small details in this series like Shadow and the sprite transformations with various attacks. (Don’t get me started on those level backgrounds too! XD)

Been loving the ds videos. anakaris is definitely a character I’d love a video on. He’s so weird and unique with his ufo jump and stuff. Shadow looks awesome, didn’t know he existed.

There's the other version of that too. Can't remember if it's in the arcade versions but I believe it's name is marionette or something along that line. Same looking creeping thing, but a different colour and rather then be random then take over it forces EVERY fight to be a mirror match. Few people in comments have mentioned it but not explained what it does. The funnest thing is that these things had LORE. They gave lore to the random select characters. That plus all the custom sprites and interactions really show the love they 'had' for Darkstalkers before it just became about the girls of it. Make me wonder if the special Bishimon is in the game or was that console only. I know you can play as Dark Talbain(who's only difference is different colurs, no human transformation win poses and the old sprite for the beast cannon AFAIK).

It's fun seeing you have so much fun. The game has so much personality in every single one of their characters it's hard just picking one to main. This game was my favourite fighting game growing up, it's fun seeing this game pick up in popularity thanks to this collection.

if they ever make a new darkstalkers game, I would love if they made Shadow his own slot who played similar to Double from Skullgirls.

Maybe you could do a more in depth video for a sort of "new player tier list" as you get more experience in with the cast. Dimitri would be "s" tier for super easy to pick up and play while Anakaris would be "bottom" tier for being super complicated, or maybe vice versa would make more sense.

There are several secret characters. If you highlight Bishamon hold select and hit kick, you will get Oboro Bishamon who has a completely different move set from standard Bishamon. You can do the same for Jon Talbain but I think it might be 3K. But J. Talbain has mostly the same moves, it just changes his shinku hadouken super to have the visuals from the first game.

Love the Dark Stalkers stuff. So happy to see people talking about this game again. Thank you.

I know on PC there's debate if this collection is even worth it when fightcade exists, but I'm thankful for it just for the boost of vsav content from you and others. I love seeing this game. Nice work!

I was going through the section that shows you what you've unlocked and saw this, along with a few others I wasn't aware of. Really really cool stuff, I love the easy select option for secret characters, makes it so fun.

When you select Shadow in an online match, can the opponent see that you did that?

Dark Stalkers is one of my favorite arcade franchises I still have my strategy guide for the original and three PlayStation releases

ive been playing the hell out of Vampire savior in the collection! but i always get a bit sad when im done cause the character designs are some of my favorites from any game period, and i dont think capcom will ever make another one, but hey the collection is really sick, thanks for giving VS some more exposure dude!

you forgot to mention the ps2 collection has an exclusive character,Dee the vampire version of donovan that has his own ending that shows an adult anita.

The first time I use shadow it scared the shit out of me, really creepy. I can Imagine those online players going "WTF" after seeing that creepy shadow

Just clicked on this video just now. I got the Vampire Darkstalkers Collection for PS2 (Japan only Darkstalkers compilation game. It has a hidden game where you can play Huitzil, Donovan and Dee in the original Vampire Savior, and play as as the missing fighters in Vampire Hunter 2, and Vampire Savior 2). I just done it in Vampire Savior in that collection and it actually worked in there too. This Shadow creature also has it's own victory dialogue jingle too. Thanks for sharing this cuz I could have went on my whole life not knowing.

New to Darkstalkers, on the character select screen, what does Normal, Turbo, Auto do?

I just discovered this dude thanks to CA2S's manuals (which include secrets for all the games!) and I fucking love him already. He's like the Darkstalkers version of Chameleon or Olcadan, just some secret weirdo who tests your knowledge of the roster.

I'd love seeing more BB Hood, I've really been liking her but I'm still clueless with her.

Oboro Bishamon exists, there's a different Donovan, and if I remember correctly, there's also a hidden puppeteer. I had Darkstalkers Chronicle for the PSP.

Does this collection have a wider screen aspect ratio then the original arcade and PlayStation games? It seems like it does and it looks like they cleaned up the image quality a little bit, very nice collection! By the way, I keep saying this but I want to see more darkstalkers characters in marvel versus Capcom! Maybe somebody can create a mod for mvc2 that includes all the dark stalkers characters...

If you ever do this again, maybe try doing it where you have to play as the character you beat in your last match, like since you beat a Felicia as Talbain, you'd then be playing Felicia, and so on. And if you lose you'd just roll another character.

I have seen Shadow before as a character but I never knew what he did and didn't know how to select him.. That is very interesting. If you could keep the properties of Arcade mode Shadow in an actual tournament (meaning, you become the person you defeat), that would probably be the ulimate expression of skill at tournament level (and a LOT more fun than just a random select). It almost makes me feel like this idea should make a comeback in modern fighters like the upcoming Street Fighter 6 (either as a Twelve-like character or mode). A high level tournament with two "Shadows" (and the strategy that comes out of that) would be VERY fun to watch 👍.

There are other hidden characters in Vampire Savior besides Shadow: -Marionette: Selected via hitting Select seven times on the Random Select and then pressing any punch or kick button. Basically has you be whomever your opponent is in a mirror match. -Oboro Bishamon: Highlight Bishamon, hold Select, and press any punch or kick button. Gameplay wise, he has a few new moves and loses the ability to use the spirits emitting from him to possess his opponent. -Dark Talbain: Highlight Talbain, hold Select, and press all three Punch and Kick buttons. Differences between him and regular Talbain are largely aesthetic with Dark Talbain's sprite glowing and using an older animation for Talbain's Dragon Cannon move coming from Night Warriors.

Yeah The others secret character besides shadow its Marionette(it mirrors The opponent), Oboro Bishamon(The boss version of Bishamon) and Dark Jon Talbain(basically regular Talbain but hás a 1% more damage output on all his moves). Then theres Dee which is The Darkstalkers version of DonoVan but exclusive tô The Vampire:Darkstalkers collection on Ps2.

Sorry, bro, but Shadow and Marionette were well known if you had the Darkstalkers repack in PS1. I think the game gave the secret away when you finished arcade mode.
