Here we are with the "Choose a main" video for Darkstalkers(specifically Vampire Savior!). As always with these style of videos I give a brief overview on every member of the cast, let you know some of the aspects of what they are about, and hopefully armed with this knowledge you can make a decision on who you might want to play! Thanks to the Capcom Fighting Collection for giving Darkstalkers a big breath of fresh air putting it on modern consoles and PC(outside of emulation). Its a great franchise and all the characters are true all time greats!

@@Guitar-Dog Calling a content creator who makes you videos for free 'sellouty' for... making videos that are timely and relevant and yes maybe might make him a few dollars so he can continue to do what he does is a garbage move, friendo. If you wanna point people to your high level Darkstalkers content that you were making out of your heart and goodwill, you should do that! But something tells me you aren't doing that for some reason.

Its ok for people to have new experiences and enjoy new things. I wish all the best for people playing Darkstalkers for the first time on Steam, Playstation, Xbox, and Switch and its why these videos exist. Go back to your grumpy old cave fightcade man.

Extra note about B.B. Hood, the butterflies landing on her indicates when she's held a direction long enough for her charge moves to come out. It's a really neat indicator for learning her timings

For those of you who are new to Darkstalkers as a whole, the game is 25 some years old right now and yeah there's a pretty strictly defined tier list and all that, but don't sweat it. Tier list only matters for the grizzled vets, for now play who you find fun because every character is wildly unique!

Lilith's Gloomy Puppet Show is a 'rhythm minigame', you have to hit the right prompted buttons to the beat to get 100 pts. And just like certain rhythm games, you can hit hidden predefined buttons at times to score over 100 pts. There are a few set rhythms and some are easy while others are difficult. With a real training mode, this will be much easier to practice.

16:26 So Lilith’s super “Gloomy Puppet Show” is basically a rhythm mini game where you have to follow the rhythm (which should’ve been instructed in some way) and once you do that get basically some points after the game is ended and increase damage depending on how many points you have. It was weird at first on my end but after that I understand what that super is for. Here’s a 6-button layout which was shown in the mini game: 1 = Light punch 2 = Strong punch 3 = Fierce punch 4 = Light kick 5 = Strong kick 6 = Fierce kick

I am an old guy (mid-forties), and I have been a fighting game fan since their very start. My memory had clearly failed me concerning this game. Thank you for reminding me why this is such an amazing classic. There is so much about this which really looks to stand up to the passage of time. I would love for Capcom to put their fighting game A-Team on a modern Darkstalkers iteration.

The right adaptaion IMO would be a 2.5D *stylised* art style. Darkstalker would lose a lot of its charm if turned into the 3D "salami" style of recent SF.

I'd say that Darkstalkers - maybe more than any other game - is a game where you should just pick whoever you think is cool. You think the kung-fu werewolf is cool? Just play as him. You'll figure it out. You think the vampire with the DBZ ki aura is cool? Just play as him. You'll figure it out. You think the zombie rock star is cool? Guess what you should do.

Hey just wanted to add some more supplementary info I think is important: Demitri: has a level 2 command input super that's a grab with 2 frame startup. Good thing he builds meter really quickly! Zabel's damage output comes from confirming into a super that does 30-40% total and sets up for oki Bishamon can do his dp but only as a reversal or guard cancel. His unblockable is because of a proximity guard glitch. His charge slices get more range the longer you charge Sorry if I missed you mention it, but Anakaris can't pushblock. And his guard cancel is unsafe on hit so he is cool and fun but that's why specifically he's low tier BB Hood's offense is super good even without the infinite; tons of frame traps and instant overheads Hsein-ko has even more movement control with her pendulum swing that she can cancel and keep momentum Please go out and keep playing ^_^

Still Maining Felicia B.B. Hood & Lilith. Felicia I've just always used since the first game. I love the fact that Bulleta is twisted little red riding hood. Lilith idk why but i enjoy the uphill battles with her more compared to joke characters in other games

Wow! It's fascinating how many things originated from Darkstalkers! We have a lot to thank them for! By the way, in Skullgirls, Peacock's taunt uses the same exact motion for Hsien-Ko's super (LK, HK, MP, MP, up), and after using the taunt, the next large item she drops with qcb+P will now become Hsien-Ko's Tenraiha! As for the characters I'd like to try, I still stand by trying out Sasquatch and B.B Hood first, but wow! I thought KOF was crazy for giving a lot of characters command grabs, but in Darkstalkers, EVERYONE has at least one command grab, I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this! Lots of characters can get instant overheads via hover dash/leap dash too, so I gotta look out for those! :O

Although Demitri was a no brainer for me as a shoto player back in the 90s, Rikuo and Sasquatch are the ones I enjoy the most playing with, they have plenty of resources and are so much fun. Never managed to understand how to play BB Hood and Hsien Ko though. lol

Felicia has always been my main character to play as in the Darkstalkers games, most notably in "Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge", since she's pretty quick and agile for a fighter, and it's also really hard to resist her cute-looking design and fun-loving personality that makes her one of the most appealing characters in the series. ^^

For Lilith gloomy puppet show, you have to input the right button and strength on the beat to increase the damage. Kinda just frame-y like Lucky Chloe rage art on Tekken 7. And there are a few different random presses the game throws at you but the button set won't change once the game picks one

it always confused me with how the buttons worked when it says 1st punch on the top row then 2kick on the bottom is that light punch to light kick? I believed so but it always gave me low points

@@trevorpgamer1936 each 3 punch and kick correspond to a Light Medium and Heavy. So if the 1st 👊🏽 lights up then the 2nd 🦶🏽 pops up that would be LP->MK LP MP HP👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽 LK MK HK🦶🏽🦶🏽🦶🏽

Being a vampire fan, I loved Demitri Maximoff, for me, he's the Ryu but I also loved Morrigan Aensland because she made me learned that succubus exists..I love them both that I made them the Dark Couple of my own indie manga. I even plan to make a fan fic of Darkstalkers Vs Street Fighter..so for me, either Demitri or Morrigan...

16:28 This super works similarly to Rise's Dance Super in P4AU where you have to press the buttons in time with the background music and it even shows the buttons on the screen the one that turns yellow is the one you have to press. However I have never in my 3 years of playing this game gotten more than 5 or 6 notes during that super. The song that plays and when the buttons change for you to press them are not synced up correctly essentially making it impossible for you to successfully do the super. The fact that it also costs 2 bars makes it even more useless when she has a Luminous Illusion and a pseudo DP super which can be done with 623KK you actually get more damage with this than Luminous Illusion though you have to hit a link into the super rather than canceling to Luminous Illusion or just do button into super.

Timing is definitely picky, but the text box next to your opponent is blue when you mistime, and orange when you correctly time it, so you can practice and perfect it. I have seen someone actually get a perfect 100 score in tournament (blew my freaking mind when I saw it). In fact, the Play Station port of Darkstalkers 3 had an option in training mode to select which of the 6 different button sequences you would get, so you could practice each one as much as you want. Hopefully this new collection retains that option. The best way I have performed it is to just mash every button on the controller simultaneously and hope for the best. You can kinda get a rhythm going and land a moderate score that way. I've still only managed a perfect score this way once during training mode, though. And since you need a perfect 100 to do more damage than her LI, it's still not really worth spending two meters to do it. The move does have some value, though. It has a really weird trajectory that protects from both air and ground approaches, so it's a good move to use with backdash to safely deactivate darkforce. And if that darkforce was mimic doll, you get two projectiles to cover your retreat.

@@japanimationman4442 Yeah as soon as I wrote this I went into Training mode and landed most of the super first try, but yeah it does have use with Dark Force and as keep away tool and I’d be lying if said that I haven’t used that super the most in matches of her 3 supers. I think my thought of it being not synced up correctly is due to fightcade having a slight input delay when playing online.

Please do a short followup with Donovan, Phobos and Pyron. Even if they didn't make it into Vampire Savior they are still part of the main Darkstalkers cast and would be nice to know more about their playstyles.

I'm glad you were at least willing to say "ryu like" when describing Morrigan. I wish you made a similar comment with demitri as well. cause thematically, I get morrigan and Demitri serve as rivals. (like ryu vs ken or even sub-zero vs scorpio ) but gameplaywise while Morrigan and Demitri are shoto-like, both lack a tatsu. Lilith meanwhile has the 3 shoto staples. which kills me cause you show she has an uppercut and a tatsu, but you're spending so much time on her soul flash projectile, that's what I got out of it until I looped the section a handful of times.

3:50 all chars have a whiff throw animation, but is something special to get, boot up the game and do Morrigan's command throw and jump with the other character at the same time. A pretty funny animation were she stumbles flails her arms and does a expression of surprise will trigger, B.B. Hood snaps her fingers and grunts. For competitive play I don't know how much these animations affect, they have a little length to it, but I don't know if they have enough cooldown to get punished, and besides they're extremely rare, the evasion and command throw have to have like in the exact same frame

Bruh if you're recommending Morrigan as a basic character to learn the game with I don't think you did enough research on her. This is massive misinformation that I'm thankful for since you've created a subclass of Day 1 Morrigan players that are going to get steamrolled by Day 1 Sasquatchs, Demitris, Zabels, Viktors, Felicias I barely play VSav but even I knew this right away

Still wish Lilith got into some more fighting games. There’s some moves from the manga that are definitely worth of being in Lilith’s in-game series moveset (such as her Golden Arrow attack, which is basically just Mystic Arrow but she CREATES THE ARROW). Also, Lilith is my main in Darkstalkers 3 for the exact reasons you described and because she has the Tatsumaki (which Morrigan doesn’t).

Fun fact! Darkstalkers is my 2nd favorite fighting franchise right under Guilty Gear! I sadly never got into Street Fighter (even though I own most of them). I really only played the first 2 then never got back into it. Darkstalkers just took such a hold on me as a kid. I always was attracted to dark things and horror, plus I love how it doesn't take itself to seriously. I've always wanted them to make a DS4, but with the way they are doing some of their franchises, perhaps it's best if they don't 😅. Just like I would LOVE for them to at least remaster all the Onimusha games and maybe come out with a new one.
