I just made a paint studio so I can re touch my 2003 540i BMW, I am serousily conserding doing this method for my car, it looks increiable! I might do more of a light blue under coat tho, just to match the original paint it came with.
I really hope i get this down one day! This method doesn't work for me, but if i add some dish soap it does. Maybe it's a bad wettner agent batch. Im 4 tries in, it hasn't been easy. I'm not getting deep crystals. Temperature really, really, really matters and it gets lost in the juxtaposition topics of the school portion. Sanding the helmet before adding the solution really, really, really matters.
Heads up, the link you posted for the wetting agent is not ox bile, it’s liquid latex liquid mask. I just tried mixing my own crystal effects and it does not work at all…. Haha it was an epic fail in my workshop, but luckily it was just a test piece
@@user-xf1yz9kg5c me either. No matter how much I stirred. The combo of liquids and urea did get might cold though. Maybe my ml to grams conversion was wrong?
@@nowyourefinished6481 i found a fix. Use hot water in a pan or bowl to heat the mixture within a container. Also use dish soap instead. What i did was i made the liquid saturated, filtered the extra ereum and added a little extra destilled water to the mixture. Make sure not to use it in a cold environment since the saturation is also based on the temperature. What i experienced is that it didn’t crystallize at too cold conditions. It just became one big mess. 20 degrees c with a window open gave me great results. Let me know if you need help
I wonder if it's possible to control the crystalline development? Using some of the urea crushed into powder and placed strategically for nucleation points might do it. And we're talking like individual granules.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. As an artist I’m always on the lookout for new techniques. I’ve already seen it but could it be possible to just use DEF fluid instead?
Interesting I've seen diesel exhaust fluid spilled several times and it certainly dries in a crystalline structure... I almost wonder if you could just use def 😛
This so Superb My old car needs a respray Do you think I could do my whole car like this ? You made this look easy and gave me confidence to test and see if I can do the car
@@ETOE I will practice and then give it a go If it can be done ….. I will be able to do it If not it will be candy cherry red all over Never be afraid to try
These videos are amazing. Thank you. If I'm going for a white on white effect, how would I go about doing that? White base with an off white overtop, then clear coat? I'm trying to match a set of custom white wheels I'm ordering. Thanks!
Thank for video. So if I’m understanding, I will paint a base color, then clear it with 2 coats of 2k clear, sand it with 800 then put crystal liquid on it, then paint light black then sand with grey scotch pad? Then I’m assuming paint candy over then clear it ?
Hello, in my country the most common urea i find is a fertilizer type with minimum 46% N content... is that good, or it has to be the 99.5 percent purity one?
Brilliant and clearly explained video!!!! Quick question, what temperature are you running your spray area at? Curious as mine took forever to dry!!!!! Lovely English October weather! Thanks.
Hello sir, great video! Question for you? How long do you let the urea mixture dry on the helmet and how long do you let the black paint set up before wash. Thanks in advance
No alcohol in the mix, to evaporate faster to make smaller clusters.. which I think that every time that Urea is said, some one, as of the client on the chalk bord.. had too many drinks.
Need help, anyone. I got some good crystals, but when I tried to rub off the topcoat it didn't come off. Even with 150 grit sand paper the topcoat is still hard to get off. I'm using Krylon Spray Paint. Am I using the wrong type of paint? Am I supposed to take off the topcoat sooner? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for the explanation. I'm a little confused about the use of the wetting agent. According to the product links in your description, the agent is used for water based paints. However, I thought the Rust-Oleum paints you recommend in your description were epoxy/enamel based paints. Are they not? Or, is the repelling nature of the of the two part of what creates the effect?
You could also use jet dry I am sure. It is also a surfactant and does the same thing. I have never heard of the product he mentioned but I know we have jet dry on the dishwasher soap aisle in the US
Hello, I love you videos, please can you help me with a question I have regarding the crystal effect. I would like to use this technique on a clear lexan polycarbonate Remote control car shell . However when painting these shells the paint is applied in the inside of the shell and once painting is completed a protective outer film is removed from the shell revealing the paint , this effectively is the clear coat so I wouldn’t have to do this part of your process. Please can you give me any advice on how you would attempt the crystal effect on this please. Thank you, Gary
How did you get the crystal solution to stick to the silver paint? Mine just keeps beading on the surface even sanding the paint with 800 grit and using that wetting agent you suggested. I even used dishwashing liquid.
@@anthony_trillanes The problem I had with dish soap is trying to get rid of the bubbles. You don't want those drying up on the surface of the part. I've had some luck with the crystals but often they didn't form how I like and they only formed were the solution stayed on the part. I think it also depends on the size of the part you are using. I think it works best on large parts with not alot of angles. But for now, I gave up on the project. I think the problem may be the silver paint. It does not let water stick to it. I watched the video again and he briefly mentioned he clearcoated it and wetsanded after. I will try that. Maybe the solution sticks to the sanded clearcoat better.
i mixed the solution and heated it like 40sec in the microwave because i had a problem with the urea not really dissloving in the water. the result was a clear solution like he had.
Hi. Total geil.
2 trivia things about fish. 1/ You can tell if the fish is a surface feeder or a bottom feeder from the position of its mouth. 2/ You can tell how old a fish is by the rings of it's scales just like a tree...
@@ETOE I mixed it like you did in your video, the liquid got very cold, is that normal? Or should you warm it up a bit so that it dissolves better? Second question: how do I get a larger crystal structure? Mine are very fine. Thanks for you time:)
Great painting jobs. You shold turn down the volume of the music in your mixing though. It is impossible to hear your dialuoge without waking the neighbours when you suddenly turn on the music.
@@Ph1rene never did get it to work right. I think you need to let it dry for 3-5 days before you do the crystals. I gave up and went with marble effect and was just as happy with the results
It's a detergent/sufactant. Most washing up liquids work okay. Ox bile (which acts as a detergent) is an out there choice but at least it shouldn't hurt the fish in the pond.
