We havent tested on a canvas. Canvases are flexible so not sure if it's going to work. You could give it a go, it may have issues with adhesion. refer to TDS: dna-paints.com/wp-content/uploads/Mutant-CrystalZ-TDS-V1.5.pdf www.dna-paints.com/mutant-crystalz/
What are your drying times in-between each step? Will this work with water based airbrush paint? My thought is when you wet the crystals with water to be scrubbed off, all the black paint would come off as well.
allow the part to cure 30 min at 20 c use a hair dryer on low to be sure its fully dry and use warm to hot water and use your hand to remove the mask effect
Thank you Airbrush Asylum for the wicked tutorial as always! I know this is sponsored, and the idea is to push a product. BUT, I want to just share that this can be reproduced at an albeit shittier quality. Water Urea ammonia common liquid dish soap! Crystal Effect solution is as old as I can remember!
Great question, I assume it would however you will need to prime it and then base it up 👍🏻👍🏻 check with dna paints before you buy they are very helpful 🤩
You could add a mini flake into an intercoat clear and try that or better yet do the flake first and then experiment with doing the crystal over that then candy 😉🤘🏻
Yes you can mask a section and then crystallize, just make sure it’s a vinyl or fine line tape on the edge as otherwise it may deep through ? As you are applying the crystals heavily with a cloth 👍🏻
Can I create the same/similar effects with acrylic paints? (Because I have to paint indoors.) What are all my options for making cool effects but with water based materials?
You can purchase direct from DNA paints using the following (affiliate link, meaning we receive a small commission for any qualifying sales) - www.dna-paints.com/trident/?a=873
I tried this out and got serious beading, let me with a white beady mess. It's there a paint and/or canvas material that doesn't work with this technique?
That sux...it generally works really well on all hard surfaces if you want more technical info then I would reach out to DNA paints direct via - dna-paints.com
Works on solvent based, works on all DNA products. havent tested on waterbased, please check the data sheet. dna-paints.com/wp-content/uploads/Mutant-CrystalZ-TDS-V1.5.pdf
I've tried to make this stuff on my own with urea fertilizer and water with dishsoap. It comes out with some stick patterns, but it doesn't come out like this. Maybe you just gotta get the real thing. Your's looks almost 3d
@@AirbrushAsylum Hi I hope you are very well your videos are very helpful * I have some doubts and I would like your help: 1) what type of silver in spray can you recommend that it be of very good quality and can achieve the same effect? 2) When you apply your candy red over the silver, do you put some kind of sanding sealer clear on top of that, to protect your marble effect, before applying your 2K Polyurethane final clear coat? 3) Does the silver paint have a clear coat on it before applying the crystallizer? or is it just the painting. I look forward to your prompt response you are the best thank you very much
You can definitely play around with it by adjusting the level of crystalz applied, the direction of how you apply it, it all just comes down to experimentation.
I have a gun stock I would like to do this process on and my question is can I use rattle can paint? so I don't have all that expensive paint laying around that I won't use and go to waste.
Airbrush Asylum : perfect il be using this on a project im working on now keep these vids coming mate bin painting from 2k gun, spray can all way to airbrush for about 8 years and still u came with information iv never seen before lol guess i need to start getting back to researching not just using one shop lol thanks again man and keep up these videos
That awesome that effect ! you said you spray base coat silver and straight on top you put urea mixture, didn't spray on clear coat ? How much you wait once before spray black coat ?
Hi , after the crystals have formed and then you put the second lack coat over them ,,, do you let the black dry before you scrub with the warm water pad ? thanks
I actually think in comparison to other products it’s quite reasonable at the time of writing it’s about $125 AUD for 500ml and just over $200 AUD for 1 litre, you don’t need a lot so if you keep that in mind it’s fairly reasonable 👍🏻
You can spray products like this using spray bottles or those spray paint systems that employ a jar and your own paint with an aerosol can of propellant (cant remember the name, sorry). Brushes and rollers can be employed as well. All will give different results, and the technique, direction of movement, and application method all effect size and direction of crystal growth. It's important to experiment on multiple surfaces before applying to the final surface because even the topography of the surface your painting effects the crystals. For instance I was doing a job and the crystals emphasized the edge of a surface on one side but not the other and it ultimately looked disjointed. I opted to repaint. Sanding direction changes crystal direction growth immensely and can be used to manipulate how they grow. You can get interesting effects by wetting some areas before others, or by varying the volume applied in different areas. I often use an old hairspray bottle to apply these crystal products because it provides an even and very thin mist while still being easy to use and disposable and capable of wetting a relatively large area rapidly Note.... my experiences were with a similar product but a different brand. Best advice is to experiment. Get a bottle and waste it just playing around.
@@AirbrushAsylum If I use an acrylic paint or water based red paint over the crystal will it cover the crystal effect not showing the effect meaning it will be just a red canvas
Should be ok 🤔 you would need to use the appropriate plastic primer to make sure that you don’t have any adhesion problems, reach out to dna-paints.com their tech department should be able to 100% confirm for you 👍🏻
